Colorful fun toy for learning how to use fingers and hands . I was not disappointed in this grasping toy from Melissa and Doug. Initially I was somewhat concerned about pinched fingers getting caught in joints or bands for hair to get caught in, but we have had no such issues. The dinosaur is very well constructed and there is little to no possibility of pinches. My daughter is easily able to twist and manipulate the individual segments and has remained amused by this toy over the past two months. There have been no issues with chipping paint or broken pieces (this is a toy that stays in her play pen so its survived quite a few tosses onto the hardwood floors).

Great safe toy at a great price . My son loves this toy. More so to chew on which makes me glad the paint is safe. We take it with us wherever we go and he doesn't seem to get bored of it. It's a low price, too. Bonus!

its ok . this toy is ok. bigger then i expected and the colors are not as bright (it actually is only painted on front/ back- not edges). it is solid construction and my child loves to chew on it. the problem is that his fingers get pinched in the bends all the time! i thought it was just him- being that he is 6 mos - but my niece is 13 mos and the same thing happens to her. i would say this toy is meant for preschoolers- definitely not babies!

Great toy! . My son loves this toy! Melissa and Doug toys are sturdy and easy to clean- always. My one year old son has had this toy for 3 months and has used it as a teether. He is now making it walk. He loves moving the pieces and talking to it. Great quiet toy for times when your little one needs to be quiet!

Great Wooden Teether-- My Son Loves It! . Bought this for my 7-month old as he was constantly putting his hands in his mouth and I wanted something nice for his Easter basket. This dinosaur teether is perfect for grasping and A-OK for him to put in his mouth. I love how you can configure it in different ways and how it looks like a "big boy" toy. In fact, my 3yr old likes it, too! Another plus-- it's affordable as far as wooden toys go... Hooray!

Great grasping toy . We got this toy for my 5 month old and he loves it. It immediately caught his attention and he spends quite a long time twisting and turning. What is really neat is that his 10 year old brother (and 40-something father) also have spent time playing with it. The dinosaur is fun to pose and easy for an infant to work with. Looks like quite the keeper and we will be getting different versions for sure!

Simple toy . This is probably better for an older child. My son is 6 months and uses it as a teether right now, but gets bored since its only one texture. It will probably be better suited to him in a couple of months.

Sometimes simple is better! . I wanted to get something gender neutral for my 8 month old daughter. This toy does not light up, move, or sing annoying songs, but my daughter LOVES it! Deceptively small . I'm a newbie in the rock polishing world, so this review needs to be taken with that perspective in mind. The box is tiny. It looks like it's going to be big, but there's very little grit in the box. We have a large box of collected agates awaiting polishing, and I'd be surprised if this quantity does more than two batches. The quality of the grit seems good. If anybody is more seasoned, they can correct my assertion that it feels a little like an overpriced asset.

Snap Circuits Awesome...Grids not so much. . I'm an adult who loves to learn hands on. I have been wanting to learn about electronics for years. So, I was pleased when I found Snap Circuits. Your not to old for them after the age of 18. So,they also have advanced ones.

The motion detector is a great starter kit, but the info sheet which comes with it does not really help much. Colorful, yes, but descriptive, no. It doesn't really tell what things do...

My only other qualm is that the grid is too small. Now this set, you can build it off grid. Kind of tricky though.

Conclusion: Great if you son/daughter or you want to check out and see if there is any interest in electronics for real.

Snap Circuits Motion Detector Opinions
Great addition . we bought the full snap circuit set for our son last year, he so loved this toy. So this year we bought a couple of additions, again he loved it. This toy has so many different possiblities, he plays with it often and creats his own inventions!

We must have gotten a faulty set . We love snap circuits, and this was a nice addition to our set, with the exception that it didn't work. Not a single project worked so we are sending it back. I am not willing to try it again. I will move on to a different motion sensor item. I still however recommend the snap circuits, just not this set.

Great toy very over packaged . This is a great toy for the kids. It really engages them in exploring and building for many hours. They need very little help from parents. My only complaint is that the set contains 88 pieces, all of which fit very nicely in a samdwhich bag. The packaging is waayyy over the top, about 10 times the size it needs to be. Talk zbout waste! Your kids will love it though.

My 5 yr old grandson's favorite toy . My husband found a 42 piece box of Geomag's at a yard sale and brought them home. My grandson discovered them at age 4, and has played with them almost constantly since then. It has reinforced his learning of shapes, taught him about building and construction, magnets and patience. Many afternoons he would put down Lego's and/or video games to play with the Geomag set. Great idea but problems with waterwheel . I used this kit for a classroom demonstration and it works great except for the longevity of the waterwheel. The wheel is made out of flimsy plastic which breaks into pieces after 20 or so uses. I ended up building a replacement wheel for the set which is working well for now.

Flimsy and not what I anticipated . I purchased this for my very advanced scientifically minded 9 year old daughter and it was a disappointment. It's flimsy and needs an adult to help with the assembly. We're very science oriented so we thought this would be a lovely gift but it's poorly constructed and definitely overpriced. It won't last and I'm not sure she'll get much use out of it. My daughter definitely loved it so I guess it does well on that front.

Great kit ... Well Done... Very Educational . The Electronic Playground reminds me very much of the type of electronics kit I had when I was young. I bought this for my son who is 6. While the instructions and details were a little above his head the kit was not. The projects are very straight forward and the the wiring guides are as easy as "connect the dots" (really!). My only minor complaint is that the frame is a bit flimsier (paper and plastic)then I would like.My son and I did two projects in about 2 hours (two of the smaller ones) and I was able to use the kit to make some customizations (leverage the variable resistor add a light to the electronic buzzer etc.) and show him how circuits/components can be expanded and improved.But beyond the ease of use the instruction booklet is really quite an excellent resource on basic electronics. For an older child the kit could/should provide a pretty good grounding (pardon the pun). The combination of straight forward instructions (so you get get things to work) and well written explanations (so you know why they work) is great.I really can't wait to do more projects with my son or ....maybe I'll just borrow it at night and do them myself.

The perfect way to start learning electronics! . This IS the best educational toy I have ever seen! With all the bells and whistles you could possibly want, it's the perfect way to start your kid learning electronics. I would suggest being at least 11 years old though because the going can get a little tough for younger kids after the 10th of 50 experiments! The only problem is you might not want to put it on something unstable because it is a little delicate. Otherwise enjoy a nice gift for someone just starting electronics!

Excellent learning device . I got this for my ten year old son who was interested in electricity and electronics. We have been going thru the lessons one at a time and he has been learning a lot. The book that comes with the toy is written so that he can understand the concepts of resistance and capacitance which is as far as we have gotten so far.

The toy is lightly built and would probably be reduced to junk outside of adult supervision but it is sturdy enough for him to use when supervised.

Very Good Instructional Manual . I purchased this for my 8 yo son who had an interest in learning more about electronics. My elder 11 yo daughter was not interested in sharing her snap circuits set (she has the SC-500). We were not interested in making a large initial investment. While I really like the snap circuits and the easy directions and ease of assembling different projects / experiements; but I prefer the electronic playground for the instructional manual. The manual does a very good job of explaining what is going on, for examples, how do resisters work, what are their puposes. It questions the student to come up with real life uses of a resister such as in a light dimmer.

The playground is made of relatively inexpensive cardboard (really wish that they would have used something that felt more sturdy). However, it was very easy for my son to wire between the different pieces. He did not have any problem following the provided instructions. With the additional background that was provided, he was able to take the intended lesson and further explore on his own .... and understand what he was doing. With the Snap Circuits Pro, I did not feel like my daughter was given enough information to freely and easily experiment. Interesting that they seem to be made by the same manufacturer. My daughter has had her set for 3 years so maybe things have changed.

This was a very inexpensive way to provide a great introduction to electronics. My middle child was following along with my son and agreeing with all of the written explanations she learned at school for why the experirments worked. As an intro kit, there is certainly quite a lot that they teach the kid thru the many "experiements" and it is a good guide to test a child's interest in electronics before committing to a much more expensive set.

enjoyable and easy to use . I'm in my fifties and asked my wife to buy this as a birthday gift for myself, because I wanted to learn about basic electronics. Both the kit itself and the instructions are well designed for first time newbies. The instruction manual mentions (but doesn't require) measurable quantities in volts, ohms and milliamps, which I was interested in verifying, so I bought a multimeter to test their predictions and they were all spot on. I'd recommend this kit for any adult who wants to learn about this stuff. You'll get hours of education for the price you pay.

Great Concept Some Good Lessons but Gets Old and Made Cheaply . We bought this for a boy (age 10 1/2). He found it interesting for a while, but grew tired of it quickly. If you have a child who is really into tinkering with electronics, etc., then this might be a good choice. Otherwise, it might become boring too quickly. Once the user gets a feel for how each of the included circuits, resistors, etc. work, then there's not much left.As a parent, I will add that the guidebook which comes with this kit is very informative. It provides a lot of easy-to-understand introductory information on circuits and similar topics. My son seemed interested while we did a few of the lessons and projects together during some "father/son" time. I think this type of information is good for developing brains, since it gives children a brand new topic to analyze and absorb; it also gives them a basic understanding our our "electrical world".In summary, I have mixed feelings. If you have a child who shows a liking or interest in this type of toy (assembling, testing, doing small projects, taking apart his/her current electronics toys to see how they work, etc.), then this might be a good choice. But, I cannot pound the table and say this is a "great" toy. It's a "good" toy for the right child. If you think your child might be the "right" child, then I encourage you to give it a try!

Fabulous Toy! But cheaply made. . We got this for Christmas, for my 8 year old son who is a budding electrician. He loves circuits and is familiar with Elenco products. He was so excited to get this, and pretty quickly figured out how to use it. It is definitely one of the most educational toys out there for engineer-wannabes, and the projects were fun. But I am sorry to say that it is very cheaply made. The base is a thick cardboard rather than plastic, so it easily tears. In fact, we ripped the battery flap almost immediately, even though we knew to be careful. Nothing a little strong tape couldn't fix, but considering that this toy is supposed to be tinkered with, it really needs to be made stronger to last awhile.

Excellent tool to introduce and catch the eldest and to start from scratch for everyone. . It's one of the best tools to teach the children te principles of electronics. I think it can be perfectly used at elementary and primary school. I've been playing with mi nephew and I think I am responsable of introducing another future electronic engineer in this world!!

Electronic 50... . I love the book that comes with it. I tried one of those mail order courses, and it nearly crushed my love of electronics. I didn't try and for a while. I decided to try it with smaller kits instead. This starts off like that course did, and I seem to remember something from it. This is far better though. I'm nervous about trying to start soldering. This kit doesn't include soldering (that I know of anyway). The durability is horrible though. It should be on a sturdier frame, and a better battery holder.

Excellent learning value... Doubtful quality . I bought this for my 7+ years Son and he loves playing with the kit. He didn't pick the theory well yet, but can setup the circuit quickly by looking at the pictures in the book.

Good but a few flaws . I bought this for my 5 year old for Christmas. She loves it and plays with it all the time. I see 2 flaws. The bell that comes with it does not have a holder in the carrying case nor does it fit into the little pouch in the case. Also the clock only has 1 hand! That does not help.
I had a chance to compare the ALEX set with the Learning Resources pretend school set and noticed that the LR set does not have these same problems and the LR set includes both a world map and a US map.

Great Toy for those Future Teachers! . My daughter loves playing school, so I thought this would be the perfect gift for my soon-to-be 7-year old. It's really cute. It has all the essentials a teacher needs to teach his/her classroom. It stores easily too... everything fits nicely in a carry case, which does not take up a lot of room. The only thing is what to do when all the papers and stickers run out? I'm an educator myself, and I know I can be creative to refill the items. But not everyone has that luxury. There needs to be refills to purchase.

Excellent Learning Tool and Durable . My 3 year old loves puzzles but is still learning his letters and numbers so this was the perfect present for him. It's durable although the container it comes in got stepped on and cracked (it's plexiglass-like material). All pieces are wood and there has been no chipping or peeling of any kind so far with moderately rough use (he's three after all). There is a nice variety of words and pictures as well as high quality graphics on the wooden cards. The wooden letters and numbers are also withstanding well. Honestly, he loves playing with it and so does his 6 year old brother and is learning a lot from it. I would highly recommend this as a fun, but educational, toy.

Rawr! . My preschooler, kindergartner, and grade school-er all love when I bring these down. They play naturally (sans coaching or prompting) with them at each of their own development levels: Colors, type sorting, counting, adding and subtracting, and grouping/ dividing them between each other. Play with these lasts them at least 30 minutes and they pick up nicely back into the tub. I expect these will last us many years and pass on to share with nieces and nephews too.

Great flashcards . I have several sets of Flash of Brilliance flash cards and they are fantastic for my students. Unlike most flash cards that use cartoon-style artwork, Flash of Brilliance uses real photos. I find that this provides a lot of educational value. The cards are also very thick and are the only cards that I can find that can withstand my K-2 phonics students. My sets of cheaper cards from other vendors get ripped, torn, and bent beyond recognition, while these have lasted for several years. The cards are great for teaching beginning sounds, learning new vocabulary, and also for learning sign language. They cost a little bit more, but are 100% worth it. This latest set is really nice - I like that there are several objects with the same beginning letter sound. Highly recommend.
