The Best Gift Ever! . I bought this gemstone globe for Christmas. It's definitely beautiful...shinning under the light. My husband loves it a lot: "The BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT!" The customer service is also nice and prompt. I would recommend it to my friends.

Low quality...looks and feels like plastic . I was very unhappy with the globe. It does not look or feel like gemstones or pearl. Rather, it looks and feels like plastic. Obviously cheaply made and very low quality.

Beautiful but not Gemstone . The globe is beautiful and from a distance it looks like Gemstone but it is plastic. A plastic ball filled with styro foam it looks like. Still a beautiful globe, but not Gemstone. It is "Gemstone-like" or something. The stand is very nice. My kids abosolutely love it, but I would have preferred a real one. Next time a Kalyfano I guess.
Most irretating is that my home country is not even on it (The Netherlands)! I want a pretty globe in my living room to show people where I am from, but the globe doesn't serve that purpose.

Cool tooth . I used this tooth with a beach necklace that I made. The only thing with these shark teeth is that you do not want to get them wet. If they stay emerged in water to long they will easily break.

An okay toy takes a little fiddling to work . My daughter desperately wanted this toy for Christmas. When we first opened it, it did not appear to transfer messages. Many tears ensued and I read the reviews here that confirmed the problem.

HOWEVER, there is a DEMO mode!

Only a few days later when we were going to send it back did we see the little white stickers that said, "Press the reset button to exit demo mode." There is NO reference to this in the instruction manual, and since it comes with batteries already, we simply hadn't looked!

Once we did that, the toy worked perfectly. Sure, the sound quality isn't great and five seconds isn't terribly long for your "secret," but my 8-year-old has had great fun with it.

One other point: the instruction manual says to hold the pink button to record and white button to hear messages. That's true for one half, but it's the opposite colors on the other half. Only trial and error got us to figure this out.

A total disappointment!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY! . I bought this for my 8 year old daughter, and I am bringing it back. It doesn't work and even if it did, it only records 2 words at the most. She could never complete a sentence. The 2 words that it did let her record, we could never get it to transfer to the other heart half. It was such a huge disappointment for her. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Fun but a little difficult to figure out. . I gave this to my granddaughter for Christmas. The Swappin Secrets Diary was the only toy she played with immediately after opening gifts. It was a very fun gift, eventhough a bit difficult to figure out how to use. A good gift for the price.

AmScope 100 Homeschool Biology Prepared Microscope Slides (Set E) Reviews
Good Range of Objects covered . The slides are supplied in a nice wooden case with a sheet of paper listing each slide and the slot number it is located in the case. The slides all had fingerprints or dirt on them but a quick wipe and they were easily cleaned. The range of subjects covered is nice and most of the slides are well prepared. Quality of stain was good and some of the slides I have viewed so far were really outstanding ( Housefly Compound Eye,Human Spermatozoa, Rabbit Testis). A few slides are of very small objects and it was difficult to locate them as there weren't many on the side. I got a set of 5 slides with my Celestron microscope and I can't help but feel that the Celestron slides are better quality. Overall the value for money with the AmScope set cannot be beaten. I will be buying their other sets in future. You should probably check what objects are included in each set so that when you add to your collection you minimise the number of duplicated slides. My kids are inspired by this kit.

Great gift! . We got this as a gift for our friend's 4 year old. He played with it consistently for the 3 days they were at our house, and he continues to play with it at home. It's great because it has wheels on the bottom so he can play with on the floor, but it also floats so he can use it as a bath toy. (his parents were pleased that water can't really get inside the toy, apparently bath toys get moldy/grody pretty quickly) The package tells you how to combine the pieces to make different kinds of boats but he was more interested in coming up with his own designs - he didn't care if it was an oil tanker or a tug boat.

Fantastic Toy for the tub! . This is the best tub toy we have found. My 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter love to create new boats every night. We have an old cast iron tub and the pieces stick to the side, which makes is great to store the pieces not in use.

Great learning for the whole family! . We have this inetractive toy in the space and United States version. This one seems to have the widest age appeal. My four year old just mimics the facts she hears the toy say, my eight year old has learned somebsic interesting fatcts about the world and even us adults have been surprised at what we did and didn't know.
The toy has a map of the world and you can play in several modes. You can choose to hear facts about the different contintents and countries or be quized.
This is a great fun way to learn geography and facts about other countries.
I recommend this around the world over the space model.

Scientific Toys Interactive Around the World Map Reviews
not a hit at my house . This was a gift for my 8 year old son. He loves non-fiction and learning about science and recently began drawing maps of the world. Naturally, I thought this would be a great fit for him. Unfortunately, it hasn't caught his attention and I'm not sure why. I can tell you that in the game mode he was stymied by the questions: such as "which country has an area of 4 million square miles?" - Australia. It might have worked better if it had offered some suggestions: Australia, Russia or Canada. Rather than pondering a map of the world and its many many countries. And then in a series of facts/questions he was asked/told this particular question three times in slightly different versions. So for now, I can't give it a great review. He hasn't touched it since that first time testing it out. If I later discover him enjoying it like the other reviews here I will certainly jump back on amazon and amend this review. I do think this could be a great toy for a child, but I guess I want to make sure others know it's not a sure thing.

Additional Comment July 2011: My son just put this in the "donate" pile when we were cleaning his room. A definite dud for us. I tried to renew his interest by playing with it - an additional con is that it is quite loud with no volume control.

Still in a toy box never been used . I thought this toy looked interesting based on the picture and description, in fact, I thought it was digital. It's actually a huge piece of hollow feeling plastic with a big sticker of the world map on it. My 9 yr. old son never even played with it, and he is really into history and geography, it's still sitting in his toy box since Christmas (3 mos. ago).

Could it Be Any Louder??? . This toy arrived without any instructions, so I called the company that we purchased it from (Back to Basics Toys) and they said they would get us the instructions before Christmas. They never did and never have since. We put batteries in and the thing basically SCREAMED at us so I called Back to Basics Toys again to ask how to contol the volume since we didn't have any instructions. Guess what? You can't control the volume. IT JUST YELLS ALL THE TIME. We sent it back, with any luck they will credit us back our money.

Good facts old technology . This was a X-mas gift for a 4 year old. Not much to hold his attention. No lights or interaction besides pressing the buttons. He enjoys pressing the buttons, but you get the same info everytime. No variation in information presented. Each country is delivered in the same voice, in the same rythem, the same intonation. Only thing that changes is the numbers and names. Sounds like listening to the automated customer help voice.

He has picked up some of the information about various countries, but it just doesn't hold his attention.

Probably better suited for someone who has the patience to sit and listen.

Educational . This is so far a fun toy for my son who loves learning about the world. He plays with it often and we all have learned things.

Learning fun for grandkids . I graduated from college with a Teacher's Certification in Geography and taught High School for four years in New Jersey. When I saw this product, I thought it would be great for my grandchildren, especially the 3 1/2 year old. His attention span isn't all that long, yet, but he enjoyed playing with this toy with my help, and especially related to the map of the world, since his Father, my son, had the world map on the computer screen the night before tracking "Santa's journey". It was wonderful to see my Grandson interact with the toy and show some understanding of where he lives in relation to everyone else.

Flash Cards . These are basic flash cards with bright colors and numbers. My grandson is only two years old, but he knows a few numbers and letters. These cards have pictures to correlate with the letters, which makes learning easier. The only problem I have with them is they are paper thin. I was hoping they would be more durable for children, but they tore like paper in his hands. I would have liked them to be laminated to wipe off dirt or smudges, but, otherwise, a good investment for the price.

First words? . I can't believe no one mentioned this, but the first words pictures are terrible! My daughter is 19 months and she hasn't started to talk yet so we have been trying to use different cards to help her along and she does pretty good recognizing words but she just stared at me when I showed these pictures. The foot is actually a foot print and doesn't really look like a foot, the house has an observatory and a fire hydrant above the door below the window ???? also the animals don't look like a dog or a frog or a cow even. I don't know why they would put a worm in an apple or why on earth the "TV" looks like something from the 60s when the cards are from 2010. The book looks nothing like a book and the cookies look like a pile of mush. I can understand what these pictures are but my 19 month old has no clue. They are supposed to be for toddlers do they really have to be so cartoony? I don't know but I guess I expected too much from a company who can't even spell school.

wide variety good price . wide variety of flash cards for under $10. Can't beat that. ots of fun to teach your kiddos their basics! My daughter has already learned to say ABC. Of course these are paper and are prone to ripping and tearing lol. My daughter likes to take the cards from us and be very hands on in our ABCs and 123's. She has pretty much destroyed the A because that's the easiest letter for her to say haha. so she would constantly take it from us look at it, point to it, and hand it back to us. It has been bitten and ripped. anyway, great learning materials, I would definitely recommend.

Perfect! . I loved this for my 2yr old son. He LOVES flash cards and these are bright, colorful, and simple. I wish the shapes & colors had more of the same shapes in different colors so that I can really know he's learning his colors. For example: there's a purple rectangle and a yellow circle. If I ask my son where the yellow circle is i'm wondering if he's picking the color or the shape. There are a few cards where you have the same shape with different colors. For example: a purple square and a yellow square - if I ask him to find the yellow square and he picks the right one - then I know he's choosing by color. Other than that - these cards are great!! and my flash card loving 2 yr old loves them!

great flash cards . Bought this for my 18 month old son to start working on letters. It was a bonus that colors\shapes, numbers, and words came with it. Colorful and fun. Bold and bright. Recommend!

Great for Travel . We got this for my 2 year old because she had just learned all of her colors and was starting on the alphabet. This pack has it all to start with: Numbers, letters, words, shapes and colors. It's pretty compact too - so it was good to take along on a trip. Because of the bright colors, the kids are having fun learning which I am a supporter of.

Cons Review

Should have looked around.... . After purchasing these cards, I found them at a number of 1 $ stores. The cards themselves are not of great quality. Skip these and look for cards that are laminated if you plan to let your little ones handle them.

LOVE . My son loves these. He's almost 3 and is always bringing them to me saying cards! He already recognizes numbers and says them. Great tool to id in teaching them

not bad . It is not bad. I like the letters have the upper and lower case so she can learn to recognize both. It is confusing to her but that is because she has to learn it. I wish the numbers went above 12 though, that was disappointing. And I wish the sight words had just the word and not a picture...she just looks at the picture and doesn't even notice the word. But other than that this has made learning fun.

Good Flash Cards . Has flash card packets for alphabet, numbers, shapes, and simple words. Generally OK. Like that the shapes are different colors, so that child can learn both. Durability of card stock is OK. Beef with alphabet cards is that the letters show both upper and lower case. Confusing for little kids...when they are first learning the alphabet. Better to have all upper case...and some cards with just lower case.

Mohs Scale of Hardness w/ Diamond Rock Mineral Info - Quantity:  1 - Scale of Hardness Rock Set with Diamond   This is the traditional Mohs Scale with a small raw diamond included. There are ten number coded specimens measuring approximately 1 x 1 1/2 inches (except the diamond, don't you wish!).  The determination of the hardness of a mineral can be an important step toward its identification.  Hardness is the resistance which the smooth surface of a mineral offers to being scratched.  A diamond is the hardest of all substances and can only be scratched by another diamond.  Over a century ago, Friedrich Mohs by experimentation made up a scale of hardness which is referred to as Moh's scale.  It does not imply an exact hardness, but is set up so that any mineral can scratch all those beneath it in the scale, or can be scratched by those above it in the scale.  Since a diamond is the hardest it is given the number 10; talc is the softest so it is given number 1. Quartz is often used as a division in the scale and all those above 7 are called hard minerals.   Here are the samples included in the set and their number on the scale of hardness: 1 Talc 6 Feldspar 2 Gypsum 7 Quartz 3 Calcite 8 Beryl 4 Fluorite 9 Corundum 5 Apatite 10 Diamond Some very familiar objects can be used in conjunction with this scale.  A fingernail has the hardness of 2.5, a copper coin between 3 and 4, a nail about 5, common window glass 5.5, a steel file or porcelain tile 6.5.  Other minerals are sometimes substituted in the scale such as topaz for beryl since they both have a hardness of 8. Skip the diamond set . There is no value to having the diamond in this set because it is too small to pick up, even with tweezers, so there is no way to test its hardness on anything.The rest of the kit is a good learning tool.

fair value . Shipping was on time. Everything listed was in package. Manual makes installation easy.
The included earphone gave very week voice and was useless. I have to connect a headset onto it instead the earphone. Finally my son could listen and smiled. My son still doesn't know why the radio works after he made it.
$9 shipping for such small box, wow!

AM Radio Experiment Kit Reviews
Works fine just double check those connections! . We didn't get it going the first time. But after going through it again more carefully, found some of our connections were a bit loose. That did the trick. This is a simple design so your not going to bring in the world. But we did get several stations in clearly. My son loved it. I do have an unfair adavantage because I've built serveral ham radio kits previously and one large project called the k2 from elecraft. Having a kit that does not work the first time around is a very real occurance. I would urge builders to keep trying. 99% of the time with other kits, the problem lies with cold solder joints. Here it will be weak spring connections. A worthy project. These kits have been around forever. Happy to still see them. that should tell you something. All the parts were there. Although every part is easy to find even at your radio shack probably.

AM Radio Experiment Kit Opinions
Radio Science Project . I made this radio as a science project with my 10-year old daughter. It definitely was not an easy build. Directions are...okay..we finally got it done, but it was a long process.

At the end it barely worked--could just hear a tiny voice through the earpiece. It is possible that we miswired along the way--there are a surprising number of connections to make, but no special tools or soldering required.

It does teach how complex such products are, and there was excitement to hear it finally work. It was very easily broken at the science fair as there are so many wire connections that just easily pull out.

Cons Review

You get what you pay for . This little radio is cheap. I can get one very faint AM channel on this radio but you have to struggle to hear it. It was kind of cool putting it together with my nine year old. It has a lot of little parts, but like I said it is cheap and only barely gets one very faint channel. I did everything to boost up the signal but no go. Even plugged it in through my guitar amp. If you live near a AM tower it might be worth it, I mean it was only 10 bucks and it does have a little educational value.

Broke Right Away . We bought this for our 3 year old and my husband began to put it together and it broke immediately. She wasn't even able to play with it. Very disappointed in the quality and would not recommend it at all.

Great project! . This is a perfect science project if you home school your child. Not only that, it's a great toy when your done putting it together.

Great for Curious Kids . While I'm still a fan of the magic school bus, Sid the Science Kid is pretty great too. Currently it's one of the hit kids shows on PBS. This kit is perfect for anyone who's a fan of the show or just curious about the world around them.
