Great scope but with fair directions and poor pictures showing assembly. . I love my Orion XT6i scope as far as viewing but the directions came with very few pictures and they were in poor quality. The scope, I would not hesitate recommending to anyone, but I had to try Youtube and Google to find some decent pictures of which washer went where. It took a while to assembly due to bad pictures and this is the same owners manual for the XT6i, XT8i, and XT10i after I assembled it it works great. If I had it to purchase again, I would buy it.

Fun way intro to electronics . -Overall a good product, I just need to complain about the headset that came with it, I had to replace with another set to make it work.

It actually works...with speakers . Well I got this for a school project, it took about 30 mins to build. It comes with step by step instructions which are very straight forward for the most part. The challenge came with actually trying to get sound out of it.
The little speaker that comes with it is not loud enough for you to hear anything. When my teacher connected it to speakers ( he did with all the other students) it was reeaallly clear and loud! I mean I was very surprised, we actually got like three stations; no static, very clear! I was pleasantly surprised.Pros: -Cheap although as I am writing this it is significantly cheaper than when I bought it :(
-Easy to put together
-Fun once you actually get sound out of it.Cons: - Like I mentioned you probably will need speakers to actually be able to hear anything.
-It really is just the blue frame, with really long wires and plastic parts, I think there is more challenging crystal radio's to build on amazon if that's what you are looking for.Generally I like it.

Easy to assemble. . Please do not be impressed by the fact that I have scratch built numerous crystal radios. This radio is one of the easiest to assemble. The most difficult part of building a crystal radio is making the antennae. Make certain that you have a good ground and a long antennae. I would recommend at least at 50 foot long wire for the antennae. If your antennae and ground is good, your reception will equal any car radio. In fact, your primary problem will be that many of the stations are so loud that your ears will hurt.

Science fun . My 9 year old daughter and her dad put this together. They had a great time together while they did it. The spent some good time together and she learned alot about how radios work. It is a simple kit, very easy to do.

Crystal Radio . I bought this for my 8 year old as a Cub Scout project. While it's pretty simple and straight forward, the spring connectors are pretty touchy for a child's fingers (for an adults fingers, too).

So far, all we have is hum (hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm), but we're going to a)try for a better ground, and b)take the radio physically closer to an AM station. The good news is that all he needs to do is build it to satisfy the Cub Scout requirements. Check!

I know it should work, so we're going to persevere.

Educational . This toy is fun to put together, and fun to use. I enjoy using this radio, because from the very beginning it caught my attention. I recommended for parents to buy and kids to use.

Disappointed . I purchased this for my cub scout den. The boys had a great time putting it together and learning. However, it didn't work. We tried our best to tune into Tokyo with no luck.

Cons Review

Good in principle poor in execution . My son needed to build a crystal diode radio for the Communications Merit Badge in the Boy Scouts. I searched the internet to find a good price and this was it. The instructions were fairly easy to understand and my son built it himself without supervision. But he was unable to get it working. I took a look at it and found that the problems he had were primarily due to incorrectly orienting the kit's chassis to the drawing. Maybe colored springs would make it easier to know what connects where but I can't fault them for that, there needs to be some challenge. The real issue I have with the radio is it doesn't pull in radio stations very well.

From my own experimentation I grounded the kit correctly and hung the antenna at its full height. I could only find one radio station and it was so quiet I could just hear the peaks of the conversation. I went over the connection two more times to ensure that I hadn't shorted anything (a real problem with spring clips) and never achieved any better reception. However the radio worked just enough for my son to get his merit badge.

I have built these radios when I was a kid and they actually worked well. I think this needs to be re-engineered to improve the sensitivity and increase the volume coming out of the ear phone.

It really works . But not wonderfully well. And then what do you do? It's a one afternoon toy. Then it sits in the corner and collects dust. It's not good enough to really listen in. I wish the old Heath kits were still around. I hear they no longer exist. At least with that you got something worthwhile.

nice set of words . Some sentence building sets have weird verbs that can't be changed for tense, this has magnets for -ing, -ed, and -s which really helps a LOT with constructing sentences that make sense. They also have plenty of each part of speech to make fun and interesting sentences. It's helping my son, who has a severe communication delay, to express himself better.

Wonderful toy! . My two-year old grandson absolutely loves these Jumbo Insects. He has been trying to carry all 7 of them around with him, so his parents gave him a special tote bag for them. They were a great purchase and I am very happy with the quality.

Everything but the butterfly... . We have LOTS of Learning Resources toys in our house and have never been disappointed. My son got this set for Christmas and for the most part the quality was superb. The butterfly's wings are very hard plastic (vs the rubbery plastic that the other items are made of) and broke in half the 2nd time he played with them. The company never responded to my email about this which surprised me because the Christmas before last, we contacted them about a missing piece and they sent it immediately no questions asked.

Fortunately, my son couldn't really care less about the broken butterfly as the insects are more fun to have fights with his dinosaurs and other animals. The insects are very realistic looking and are very well put together.

Added to his collection! . My grandson (4) just loves his animals and insects.......plays with the JUMBO collection at length and his imagination with them is endless.......

Hasn't arrived after 6 weeks . The rating should be no stars, but that wasn't a choice. I ordered this on June 30 for an August 6 birthday. The party is tomorrow and it hasn't been shipped yet. The toy may be wonderful, but this vendor should not be doing business with Amazon.com.

gift that keeps on giving . This is an excellent learning toy! I got this when i was ~12 or so, it replaced my "101 in 1" (also purchased from radioshack) that I had outgrown. I had so much fun with this kit and its EXCELLENT manual. When it comes to these educational toys the manual is really *ALL* that matters. If it isn't colorful and playful skip it!

Now that I have kids of my own I can't wait to dust this off and let them play with it. I'll need to replace a few items first, blowing LEDs is just kinda what you do when learning electronics.

Later on you'll want to get them a DMM (multimeter) and breadboards/bench powersupplies/soldering irons/oh my!. But this little kit will keep them busy enough for now!

Awesome way to introduce electronic concepts to kids . I, too, had the Radio Shack-branded version of this as a kid, and love it. I'm very happy to see it's still available for today's kids who might be interested in electronics. I still have my version, and plan on using it with my boys when they become old enough.

This is well worth the money, folks. I think this was around $50 in 1982 or so, so it's probably even cheaper (after inflation) than it was when I got it...

Soooo simple and fun! . My family has had a great time with this game. It's super simple. Just spread the round cards all over a big table (or the floor!) and give each person the same number of square cards. When you say "Go!" everyone frantically tries to match their square cards to the round ones. There's plenty of running into one another and squealing about not being able to find an image until on player plays the last card and yells "Bug Out!". Works great for all ages~~

good fun . I got two of these and put them together with my 8 year old and six year old. They had fun doing it and only needed a little help when it came to the wiring. They loved racing them with each other and have enjoyed showing their friends the cars they built.

Concept: Wonderful Construction: Weak . The concept is wonderful. Its a chore system that my 5 year old and 6 year old understand without much work on my part. If your child can't quite read yet, the illustrations will help your child understand what they're next chore is. My children got it and ran with it quickly.

The construction is weak. Right out of the package the hooks were falling off. I had to hit those with e6000 glue (hardcore craft clue). The others that were still attached after opening the package were so weak that they fell of within a few days just under the weight of the cards. It comes equipped with a stand.. like on the back of a picture frame. However... where are you going to stand it? I do not have room on my kitchen counter to stand these. So I had to go out and find something to hang it with. The cardboard is just thick enough that you can't use thumb tacks. Its also just heavy enough that the command frame adhesive strips i bought didn't hold up. I had to purchase permanent adhesive strips to hang this with.

To sum it all up. I like the products purpose but not it's design. The amount you pay for these, you would expect better construction. If you purchase this be ready to put alot of work and effort into it in the beginning. You've got to mount it, design and hang a reward chart, and figure out how you're going to store your tokens. I bought 3 glass sugar containers from Dollar General for $1 each. One has my name, my sons name, and my daughters name. Mine is full with all the tokens and theirs holds the tokens they've earned.

Great Concept But....... . We ordered three of these, they fell apart within the first two weeks and it was not my children moving the tabs. Great concept, love the reward ideas but the little card holder smushes easy and the pegs came off of mine. Amazon did give me a full refund though! I ended up making a similar chart using a dry erase magnet board and some stick on pegs. They are holding up much better for me and with 5 doing chores it takes up less room than five of these boards would. Although we just ordered them for the younger three.

Mediocre Quality . Two pieces (the hooks) had come unglued before arriving and the holes on the chore cards are too small to easily slide on and off the hooks. Other that, the product does what it's intended to do, and the color pictures are nice.

Great tool! . This is WONDERFUL! My daughter wouldn't do anything on her own. I was constantly reminding her to do her chores. This tool actually helps her do them on her own. She even reminded me that I forgot to include one of her chores one day. She loves earning the tokens and since we placed this in the kitchen by the door, every time she walks through the kitchen she looks through it. The only complaint I have is that the hooks and the card holder do not stick firmly to the board. I used hardening clay to securely sick the pieces on. There is no way they are going anywhere. Note DON'T use Elmer's glue it won't stick to the glossy surface.

I did my chores chart (bear) . The chart won't hold together. All the things like the little "done" holder kept falling off the chart with or without anything in it. The chart it's self wouldn't stay "stuck" to the door with the sticky tape provided and even though it does have a stand, I don't have anywhere to put it. The merchant was NOT very helpful when I said the chart basically wouldn't stick together right, and I felt I got the brush off just because of the "educational" value of the product, and not the "quality" of product. I was not offered my money back even though thats what I requested. I will never again purchase any other product from asmarttoy.

Cons Review

Chore chart the best thing for my kids...They love it! . This is the best thing I did for my kids. They would not pick up their room or do much before. Now they do everything by them selfes for tokens. They even ask to do more. They love to do choices now. We cash in the tokens on their choice of fun activity that they would love to do. As the quality of the product. Mine was great. I have two, once for each child. Mine has held up great. I got 2 heavy duty magnetic clips, and put two on each one and stuck it on our freezer. This has worked great.

Wooden Play & Storage Desk . This toy became a great way for me to help my grandchildren to learn their letters and to read...such as spelling and sounding out various words: (example) let, pet, met, get, set, (etc). I had previously purchased Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD where they sang the sounds each letter made.

My only suggestion would be that I would have preferred the sliding black board side would have had a latch system to keep the chalk and items secure when putting away or traveling.

Not what I expected . I wanted something that my son could carry with us on trips or car rides. I mistakenly assumed that this would work. First there is no handle for carrying, it is basically a thin wooden box (maybe 2" deep). Secondly, one side slides open for storage but there is no latch or anything to keep it in place should you want to carry it with you. Third, the magnetic letters that came with it are just cheap cardboard (or thin wood) letters and there are not very many. I had purchased plastic magnetic letters separately and I doubt they will actually fit inside because of the small storage space due to the box being so thin. The size of the box is also small, making it difficult to spell more than one word at a time or manipulate multiple letters to see patterns.

Teaching aid for working with Toddlers . I have used this to assist in teaching the alphabet to my three year old nephew. It is very nice. It is a very good product and I recommend it to parents and teachers, You can also allow the child to play with it and older children can use it to "play school" with the younger children.
