Best Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Info

Price : $299.99
BUY NOW
Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Info - Powerful enough to split close double stars, resolve bright globular clusters, or look an eagle in the eye, Orion's Apex 102mm is both a fine astronomical instrument and an unparalleled terrestrial spotting scope. The Apex's 102mm-diameter (4") optics collect 28% more light than a 90mm scope. The fully multi-coated curved front meniscus lens guarantees the highest possible light transmission. The Maksutov-Cassegrain design collapses its 1300mm (f/12.7) focal length into a tube length less than 12" long. The Apex 102 tube easily pops on and off a telescope mount or camera tripod with the built-in 1/4"-20 adapter plate, and doubles as a high-power telephoto lens. Just mount a 35mm camera body (with T-ring sold separately) to the T-threads on the eyepiece holder and you're set! Includes 25mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece, 6x26 finder scope, 45-deg correct-image diagonal, and fully padded case. One-year limited warranty.

Feature Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope

  • Does not include tripod or mount - either can be purchased separately
  • Includes a 25mm Sirius Plossl 1.25" eyepiece, 6x26 correct-image finder scope, 45-degree correct-image diagonal, soft carry case, Starry Night software, and more!
  • A telescope small enough to store on a bookshelf but with the power of traditional scopes five times its size!
  • 102mm (4") aperture and 1300mm focal length telescope provides fantastic celestial views of the Moon, planets, and bright deep-sky objects, as well as terrestrial views of wildlife and scenery
  • Compact Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope provides great views during day or night

This review is from : Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope
Good solid scope but what about its sibs? . I have owned both this scope and it's little brother, Orion's 90mm Mak. This one has all the same good points as its sibling and one less bad point; the tiny hokey finder from the smaller Mak is replaced on this scope with something that is actually useful and mounted well out on a stalk so you can look through it without banging your head. The 45-degree prism diagonal is the same: acceptable for daytime use, well worth replacing with a 90-degree mirror diagonal, even a cheap one, for astronomical use.

That said, I find that I use the 90mm scope more and I'm probably going to sell this one. I got this one because I have a weakness for Maks and because I thought the extra aperture would be worth it. It's not, for me at least. I already have a big scope for sucking up photons. The whole point of a little Mak is portability, and the 90mm scope is significantly smaller and lighter. I use it more for grab-n-go and more for travel, too. In my experience all of the Apex/Starmax scopes are rock-solid and well worth the money. If you're looking for one to be your only scope, I'd think hard about trading up to the 127mm version, which gathers 60% more light and will show you more stuff. On the other hand, if you're looking for a highly portable second or third scope, or a scope for birding or digiscoping, the 90mm version is small and lighter, and the light-gathering difference is only 20%.

That's pretty nit-picky, though. This a good scope and the extra pounds and inches it sports over its little brother are only going to be an issue if you're really minding weight and volume for travel. Even so, I have flown with this scope and would happily do so again...if I weren't getting rid of it. If there's a moral to all this, it's to think hard about what variables you're looking to maximize, and don't get suckered by aperture fever. Also, amazingly enough, it IS possible to have too many Maks laying around. Clear skies!
Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Reviews
Works great for my terrestrial viewing . I bought this recently to expand the Long Island Sound waterviews visible from near my house. It works very well for that. The 40mm eye piece works best, although I have the 14mm and 25mm as well. Those work, but the images is just a bit wavy in daylight images. The size is compact and the build quality is nice. It comes with a very nice carrying case.
Orion Apex 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope Opinions
Beautiful scope . I got this a month ago, and have absolutely no regrets. The quality of built is excellent: it feels solid, with no cheap pieces. The quality of images are just as good as other cassegrain telescopes that I have had a chance to look at. I can see the moons off of Jupiter, and can barely see the storm's spot. However, the scope as sold only has a magnification of 52x (1300 focal length and 25mm eye piece), so with a shorter eye piece, I imagine that you can get much more details and larger images. Portability is great. Terrific buy!

This review is from : AmScope 40X-1000X Cordless Glass Optics All-Metal Student Biological Compound Microscope
Good Purchase . I received this item promptly and it was packaged well. I ordered this microscope because I wanted a scope that had some weight to it and had good optics. I noticed that when it shipped the reported weight was 3 pounds, but on Amazon page it was listed at 8 pounds. The real weight is 3 pounds. That's a pretty big difference. When I opened the package I noticed that the ocular was loose. It was so loose in fact that it came off. The owner's manual is almost useless. I didn't even see it when I opened the package; it's one sheet of paper. I retrieved some jeweler's screwdrivers and figured out that perhaps during the shipping the tiny screws were loosened. I was able to put it back together. The good part: I plugged the microscope in with the supplied adaptor and it has a bright LED light source. I had some prepared slides and took a look. I was surprised. For the other bad points this microscope has great optics. Clear and bright and even at high magnification. I will not be returning the scope. The quality optics outweigh the negatives.

This review is from : Toysmith 4 M Robot Duck #3648
Great toy to put together as a team with a sibling or parent. . My son is 7 and really enjoyed putting this together with his dad. It was easy enough to do on his own too. He's dropped it or it's walked off of a table a couple of times and it didn't break so he feels it's durable. Once put together, the duck doesn't do much of anything but walk around. My son loves sharing it with friends and they think it's pretty cool so it's a unique, interesting toy most people wouldn't already own. He's had it for about a month now and still likes the robot duck alot!
Toysmith 4 M Robot Duck #3648 Reviews
cheap and easy . I bought this robot kit for my son who is 5 and totally into the Robot scene. The kit was easy and fun for him to screw together. I was intrigued by the statement of walks like a duck, so couldn't wait to see how this thing actually propelled itself. It actually is kinda cool...No he wants me to build him Optimus Prime!!!!
Toysmith 4 M Robot Duck #3648 Opinions
Duck Walk . Cute beginning robot. Quick to build. Do not let it walk on carpet, though. When it gets stuck it will strip the gear, but gear is easily
replaceable. Would go better if back stabilizer rod had a little wheel
on it, then it would not get stuck in carpet.
Quick to put it together . My 7 y/o son put this together with minimal verbal help from his aunt. It took him less than one hour. It was a good experience for him to do, but he doesn't love to play with it now. It IS very durable, because my 2 y/o son loves to play with it now that it's together! He has thrown it on the floor numerous times and it's still going! Must be on a hard surface to walk. Great toy!
Ideal for a child who would like a first robot - our son age 6 . Our son has just had his 6th birthday and he is all about robots. We spent a long time looking at other reviews. This was a good find. He sat down with his dad and made the robot and then set up an obstacle course and a slope for the duck to come down. They had a great time and this was a perfect starting point for our son, who would like to be an inventor when he grows up!
Good family project . I bought this several months ago and helped four kids (ages 11, 9, 6, and 3) put it together. There was something that each of them could do and when it was finished they were all happy to have participated.

The toy walks faster than I expected (which makes it more fun). The kids have taken pretty good care of it but it has been dropped a few times and it still works just fine. It has been used many times for "show-and-tell" and gets a lot of attention because it is an uncommon toy.

I had no problems with shipping, ordering, etc.
Advice if it doesn't work the first time . Some complaints about this product include that it rotates fine until you put it down, then it freezes up. If this happens, try to reverse the wires (instead of red-to-red and black-to-black, connect red-to-black and black-to-red) so the motor turns in the opposite direction. That seemed to work for us.
worked for 1 day . Same as the other "1" ratings. Worked for 1 day, now the motor/gear can't overcome the opposing force of the ground. I guess my 5 year old can turn it into flying/kicking duck :-/
Not consistent . The robot duck takes a bit of time to construct, but that's not a bad thing because older kids can find it challenging too. I ordered a large number of robot ducks, and although fun to use, they do not consistently work well. Approximately 25% of the ducks ordered did not walk well when put together.
Robot is too heavy for the legs to move it . My son and I built this as our 4th robot project. Once we had it built, I turned it on and it the legs (motor) couldn't drag the heavy body around. I picked it up and the legs were turning fine. I adjusted the angle of the legs and put in new batteries, and still no luck. I had to replace it with a different manufacturers robot.

Note: I should mention that this is the 2nd robot from this manufacturer that didn't work as advertised. They have a "line tracing robot", a little Yellow one, that didn't work either. So beware!

This review is from : Famemaster 4D-Vision Human Ear Anatomy Model
Too small comes apart (-) Inexpensive (+) . So science education models are traditionally wickedly overpriced, but often larger than life and helpful to understanding. This model is small (I'm guessing like the ear of a child), but it is so reasonable compared to larger more helpful models costing hundreds. Why can't someone make a quality model big enough to be more educationally helpful, and not charge outrageous prices for a piece of rubber-like plastic. This company ALMOST has it right.... make it 2X-3x the size for around $20-25 and you would not only help kids understand this stuff better, but also get a mess of teachers buying the models as budgets are being crunched. Too small for demos in class as is and might get taken apart by the mischievous. For a single student to have for their studies.. okay.
Famemaster 4D-Vision Human Ear Anatomy Model Reviews
used for Anatomy and physiology class . I used this to study for my college A&P class. I got an A in the class, so it helped. The model is small, but good for its price. Putting it together was a little difficult because some of the pieces are a little tight. Once it's together it doesn't fall apart, so I was okay with that. I wouldn't recommend it for a kid, or as an entertaining puzle, but I do recommend it as a study aid.

This review is from : Toysmith Techno Robot #3475
Tough for my 6 year old to build . My daughter and I put this together, assembling the motor and gears together. The outer cardboard casing was too hard for her to tackle, so I found myself sitting alone at the kitchen table finishing the job. She likes the finished project, but the building might go more smoothly for an 8 year old.
Toysmith Techno Robot #3475 Reviews
Do Not Buy! . My son was so excited to receive this robot and spent hours putting it together. It does not work, the peices are flimsy and poorly made, and my son is absolutely devastated. Dont waste your time or money, and do not put your child through the disappointment.
Toysmith Techno Robot #3475 Opinions
Nice . Very small, not very durable. But my daughter loved putting it together and is very gently with it. She loves robots and it was great to be able to "make" one.
Don't waste your time & money . The plastic platform is pretty good the rest is thin fold & tape together cardboard and is pure junk. The tape they send with it to put it together is worthless. It took me and my grandson a long time to put together. I hope it lasts half as long as it took to build it but I doubt it. Save yourself some disappointment, wasted time & wasted money don't buy this piece of junk.

Cons Review
Robot . I bought this for my 7 year old and he and my 9 year old put the whole thing together! They loved it! I even bought it for another 7 year for a birthday present and he loved it as well :) A great BUY!!

Ferrofluid - 60 cc bottle, GREAT FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS Info

Price :

Ferrofluid - 60 cc bottle, GREAT FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS Info - A ferrofluid (from the Latin ferrum, meaning iron) is a liquid which becomes strongly polarised in the presence of a magnetic field. It is a colloidal mixture comprising extremely small magnetic particles suspended in a synthetic oil. The particles are coated with a a soap or detergent to prevent them from clumping together.Ferrofluids are composed of nanoscale ferromagnetic particles suspended in a carrier fluid, usually an organic solvent or water. The ferromagnetic nano-particles are coated with a surfactant to prevent their agglomeration (due to van der Waals and magnetic forces)

This review is from : Ferrofluid - 60 cc bottle, GREAT FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS
Tough bottle but cool substance . I bought a bottle of this for my boyfriend's birthday. When we tried to pour it into a container, the bottle was very tricky to work with. I ended up getting it on my fingers. The bottle comes with more than enough (nearly 5 times more) than you need to simply see the reaction, but more is always fun to play with. Think ahead when buying this product in terms of what you will put it in. A container that allows the liquid to lie as thin as possible, like a petri dish, is best. But if you are looking for some permanent home for it, look for something flat with a tight lid. So in the end, the substance is cool, the bottle's not.
Ferrofluid - 60 cc bottle, GREAT FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS Reviews
Great Buy! . The ferrofluid was safely contained and ample in supply.

60cc went further than I expected; even very thin layers of the ferrofluid demonstrated the magnetic field wonderfully.

Overall, the product was awesome, and something I'd definitely recommend purchasing.
Ferrofluid - 60 cc bottle, GREAT FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS Opinions
Too much fluid for small magnetic field . 60cc seems a bit too much fluid for just playing with small neodymium magnets. It seems you really only need a few drops to play with.
With a strong electromagnet you can do some extremely interesting things with the magnetic field.

Where To Buy Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model Reviews

Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model Reviews - Learn about the complexities of the human heart with this true-to-life model. This human heart model separates to create a cross-section view. The areas of the heart are labeled on the inside to show its different parts. An Activity Guide provides detailed information on the heart and how it functions. Model measures 5" in diameter.

This review is from : Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model
Cool representation of the heart muscle/structure . I ordered this toy for demonstration purposes in an upcoming Toastmasters speech I'm giving. The foam is really neat, but the printed depictions of the cross section should be laminated or something. They are sort of "cheap" and the only disappointing part to this toy. The inside will not hold up to kids playing with it.

It is an accurate depiction of the heart - including the chordae (strings) on the mitral valve. It does not show the leaflets of the valves, but most kids are not going to care.

The vendor shipped the product the day I ordered it and I had it a couple of days after. That was impressive. It was well packaged.

There is a neat leaflet that accompanies this that outlines several projects.

I am overall very happy with my purchase.
Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model Reviews
Nice big model . It is about the right size for a heart. I think it will be durable for my 7 yr old to play with, it is made of foam (like the stress toys.). The heart parts and the names are screen printed on the insides. It's 2 pieces, it is nice that there are not a hundred pieces to have to pick up.

As someone who has had open heart surgery it is nice to see that a child friendly model has been made at a reasonable price.
Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model Opinions
Not for advanced education . I bought this product wanting to learn more about the heart for my cardiovascular chapter in Anatomy class. When the heart arrived, I was a bit surprised at its size. It's a bit small, and it doesn't really define the atriums/ventricles. It is made of foam. As for use of a toy, it is nice. But for an advanced course, this isn't it.
Over-priced over-simplified poorly made foam garbage . I can't believe anyone would pay the price amazon is charging for this piece of junk and be happy. It's two pieces of foam with paint and stickers on it. The pieces don't even fit together well and you can see all along the edges where it came out of the mold because it's bumpy all the way around. I have a 7 year old who LOVES Science and is very bright and this is going to BORE her, yet 7+ is the recommended age. This is ridiculously over-simplified, over-priced, and NOT well-made at all. NOT happy, would NOT recommend.
Science Board . We ordered this heart model for my daughter to use with her science board. It is made of a semi squishy foam with a plastic overlay of the diagram of the inside of the heart. The cross section view is a good example but it looks a little confusing. We expected the model to be of a stronger material but the foam works too. It was also smaller than we expected but if you hold it up to an adults body it looks close to the actual size.
Has a purpose :) . This is a great model for younger children that want and need to explore the heart but that may be too young for dissecting just yet. It could also benefit the ones who get queasy and cannot make it through an actual dissection. It is sturdy, fun, and interesting. We have enjoyed having it in our homeschool cabinet. We have taken it out and used it over and over again. Having the parts labeled on one side and blank on the other allows for a good quiz. We made it into a fun quiz game!
Great product! . I purchased this to use with my Biology class when teaching the circulatory system. It worked great for them to gain an understanding of the basic structure and anastomy of the heart. I would not use it to teach Anatomy, but for Biology it was sufficient and worked great!

Feature Learning Resources Cross Section Human Heart Model

  • The included activity guide provides detailed information on the heart and how it functions
  • Areas of the heart are labeled on the inside of one side with corresponding letters on the other side to help with test preparation
  • Human heart model comes apart to create a cross-section view for hands-on demonstrations

Cheap 24 Game: Integers in USA

Price : $21.99
BUY NOW
24 Game: Integers in USA - The goal in each case is to use all 4 numbers in the problem each exactly once to obtain 24 or -24 by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and/or dividing.

Feature 24 Game: Integers

  • Made in the USA.
  • Ages 12 years and up.
  • Three levels of difficulty.
  • 192 combinations.
  • 96 two-sided 4" x 4" cards.

This review is from : 24 Game: Integers
amazingly fun and intelligent game . The integers game (ours has plus and minus numbers) keeps all of us (ages 11-67) busy and interacting and competing -- and gearing up for competition with cousins. It's enormous fun and keeps the grey cells moving and for the young, teaches them visual patterns they quickly translate into calculation.
24 Game: Integers Reviews
math 24-fun . Well I'd say this game is very fun for people with fast minds and like math (like me)I mean this, the longer you play the better you get, at the beginning of the school year I could not beat anyone and now I'm the second best in the class because I'm the second fastest learner in class.I suggest buying this if you are like 8-13 (i'm 11). If you buy it I'd say you'd probably like it.bye the way the overall rating is 3.5 stars.
i hope you liked my review
24 Game: Integers Opinions
Very Excited!!! . As a teacher I am always looking forward to introducing new materials which inspire students to get excited about math. I have used the Game of 24 in single and double digits, decimals, etc. While planning the culmination of my unit, I was thinking it would be great if there was such a Game of 24 that included the integers component. I googled it and low and behold....there it was. The kids really enjoyed the culmination activity and we have been using it for about 15 minutes each Friday since. They really enjoy it! Thank you!!!
Family Fun . 24 Game Integers is a great family game that helps strengthen skills with negative numbers. All of us play the game together around the kitchen table. I like that we can play for whatever amount of time we have available (10 minutes or an hour). I first learned about 24 from my sister who had played it with her own kids when they were younger. She gave us the original version, with positive, whole numbers. We just bought this one to sharpen our children's skills with negative numbers.
Fun for math-minds! . 24 game is fun for math-lovers, and a fun way for less math-able kids to learn their arithmetic. Starting with the Primer versions, then the Single- and Double-Digit 24 games and beyond, all the versions add a new bit of arithmetic to the challenge.

Can you find an equation that uses the four numbers on the card, and works out to 24? It's easy enough to find numbers that add or subtract, but you'll need to be increasingly flexible as you add multiplication and division for the Single- and Double-Digit games. Then redouble your efforts, and try the Fractions, Exponents, or Algebra versions. Wow!

Call us weird, but we like to play the 24 game at the dinner table. Even my game-shy husband gets into the fun. We do use different levels for different kids - our math-major college-student plays with the three-star level of the Exponents or Variables version, while the rest of us play with lower stars, and easier versions. Cheating? Who cares - it's fun!
Blob A Kid . This game is for fast minded people. Play it and your mind will become faster and so will your reflexes.

Cons Review
Math 24 . This is an excellent product...my son's math skills have improved tremendously as well as his self confidence since he's been playing this! He is in 8th grade and has always been an O.K. math student but he now gets A's!! We have a couple of these math 24 games I would recommend them all!!!

Excellent Value . Whenever dealing with optics, you always have to be skeptical about "high power" because usually, going to the highest magnification just shows up the weakness of the optics. I was pleasantly surprised however, by how clear 1000 power is on this very nice student microscope. It's powerful enough to really show some very small structures, and is an excellent value for the money.

worth the money . We love our microscope! It's easy to use and has already inspired hours of study for us. I was hesitant to buy it because of the price, but it's well-made and produces clear images. I highly recommend it!
