Great Gift for Children . What was originally intended to be something small and rather insignificant to go along with larger gifts that I had purchased, this item turned out be a real hit. The joy experienced from breaking the geodes and subsequently sharing the experience with family and friends, overshadowed every other gift. Terrific value. I am happy to report that none of the rocks were duds.

Great science experiment but completely performed by Nature! . My son loves rocks, shells, gems... He collects them (12 year old). These, he loves them so much, and were marveled at such a high degree, that he didn't want to crack them open all so soon, to treasure them as much as possible! And no wonder, since it is an amazing view what is inside these meteor-allien-looking rocks! Each rock is a surprise, and will have different crystals and other minerals inside. And best of all, they are completely natural, a marvelous invention treasure-chest-like coming directly from Nature.

Crystals in all of them! . I was VERY pleased with the geodes. This item was purchased for a homeschooling unit on rocks for my kinesthetic son to have some fun! I was a little concerned that we would have some duds, but every single one had a beautiful array of crystals inside. Even better was that each one had different coloration inside, which the kids loved. The directions say to put inside of a sock, then strike with a hammer. That did NOT work. I had my son put on some safety goggles, and he had to hit them right on with a hammer. That worked liked a charm. Wonderful learning tool.

Surprisingly Great! . After reading reviews I was waiting for the let down. The picture is misleading, BUT these were full of crystals and about the size of a medium egg, one was a little smaller. If your child loves rocks they would like these and for $10 really a great buy. Only complaint, they were very difficult to break for our 7 yr old. But with cement outside and a hammer I broke the smaller one in one whack. (don't do them inside I cracked my tile LOL yes this is normal for me!) And truthfully I'm not sure what people are expecting for $10, Large Geodes are very expensive. These were well worth the $ and I would order them again as gifts. The company was very prompt with shipping and in very nice condition when they arrived.
Loaded with crystals! . Purchased this as a gift for my 9 1/2 yr. old daughter. The geodes where a nice size, we recieved 5, all bigger than a golf ball. They where fairly easy to break open with a hammer in an old tube sock. Every single one, LOADED with crystals! They didn't break in 1/2 like we thought, they rather shattered in several pieces. She kept all of the peices in a tupperware container w/ lid to take to school for show and tell. We would recommend this product, very interesting and educational.
Break open an ugly rock to find beauty inside! . Breaking open geodes is great fun for almost anyone. My 9 year old grandson loved wrapping up these small geodes in an old towel and breaking them open with his hammer to see what is inside. His package had 4 ping-pong ball size geodes and one that was even smaller. Some had teddy bear quartz inside and some had larger quartz crystals. All were in shades of white or grey. Each was a bit different from the others. He found some dark fabric to display them on in his room and they all look quite nice!
Geodes . These geodes work great for modeling in a 6th grade science classroom. They are somewhat small in size, but they are affordable for teachers to purchase to use in the classroom.
great fun! beautiful crystals! . I gave these to my 7-year-old daughter as a Solstice gift and she was thrilled. She had already learned about geodes in school, but never cracked one open or seen one before breaking/cutting. She received them last night and wanted to go outside and hammer them open right away, but ended up having to wait till this morning, and she carried around the box until I finally got the hammer and went outside with her.There were 6 geodes in the pack, about the size of walnuts, and all of them had crystals. Judging the force with which to smack them is tricky and a few broke into smaller bits than I wanted but the biggest crystals all seem to be intact and my daughter was really happy with how sparkly they were. Now she is carrying the opened geodes around with her everywhere.
awsome . I am a 10 and a half year old and my mom and I were looking to buy some geodes online and found these. I thought they would be duds or the crystals would be the same but they were all different. Some were as small as a golf ball but some were as big as a small egg.I might buy some more.
Good Review . The Geodes in this set were exactly what was described. The Biggest geode was a little bigger than a golf ball; the smallest geode was about the diameter of a quarter. I opened the smallest first, and sure enough there were neat crystals inside, almost solid, with a small core space but definately a cool rock!! I will bring the others to my geology class and we will smash open the rest.... P.S. Safety first, wear some eye protection and gloves when smashing with hammer or chisel!
