Rise of the Machine . I found this Robot starter pack to work very well - TOO well, in fact. I came across it while working on a project for the house. You see, after my ex-wife left, things got out of hand at home. The dishes piled up, the floor stayed dirty, and the raccoons in the attic got extra feisty. It was time to bring in a helper, so I ordered this kit.
I was able to put the robot together without too much hassle. Since I took a few engineering courses in college, I knew what I was doing. I invested many hours in the garage "fine-tuning" the apparatus.
Within due time, I managed to attach wheels, a thoracic cavity, fully-functioning arms, and a head with eyes and its own CPU and internal wiring. Once I added the silicone-based exoskeleton, my robot was good to go.
I named him RICO, which is short for Robotic Intelligent Chore-Organizer. And I'll tell you, this robot knew how to do those chores. With only minimal instruction, he learned to sweep the floor, clean dishes, and keep those raccoons quiet.
Soon enough, he was fetching me beers from the fridge and learning that Old Style does not require a bottle opener! Meanwhile, the robot's internal "pack" hummed along nicely and RICO worked obediently for months.
After a while, though, RICO started acting different. He would make snide comments while I watched my game shows, and deny my requests for gin & tonics when he felt I'd "had enough." I chalked up such commentary as programming glitches in RICO's voice modulator, even as he continued to critique my eating habits and make fun of my shoes.
To my shock, RICO became fully self-aware on August 29, 2010. That was when I found him in my garage, disassembling my Camaro to create some "new friends", as he claimed. When RICO said my species was obsolete, I knew this was no longer the robot who used to kindly rinse my toupees in the sink.
I decided to leave him alone and let things blow over for a bit. BIG mistake. By the time I went downstairs the next morning, RICO had somehow turned the refrigerator and microwave into sentient beings with the capability to overpower and disable humans at will. Which is exactly what they did to me.
I now write this review from the only piece of machinery in my house that was not co-opted by robots and instilled with artificial intelligence. I give this product "5 stars" because of its stunning precision and effectiveness. I also apologize to anybody out there who may be confronted by a Maytag dishwasher with a mean streak and surprising upper body strength. If you do see it, though, please ask him to give my pizza slicer back.
