I'm an educator and I LOVE IT! . I work as an educator at a small museum and we bought 6 of these radios to use for a program based around life in the 1940's and 1950's. I have to tell you that the kids absolutely adored this activity. We had ages ranging from 4 to 12 and every single group loved putting together those radios. They were engaged and actively involved not just in the activity itself but in learning about why and how it worked. We've brought this activity back a few times and every time it's a hit. I always get kids asking me if they can keep the radios or where they can get one of their own.

The only thing I can think of that's negative about this product is that some of the parts are small and can get lost easily. However, in all the times I've done this activity we've never had a part go missing.

Even if they lose interest after a few weeks, I think the enjoyment they get out of the radio is well worth the price of admission.
Snap Circuits FM Radio Reviews
My 8 year old loved it...for at least 2 weeks . My 8-year-old son loved this toy but my son is a "builder". He wants to be an inventor when he grows up and will build something from the trash can or from the backyard. We saw this at the Smithsonian and he loved it so I got it for his birthday. He loved it and put it together right away. of course once you put it together the fun doesn't last long. He played with it at least 2 weeks straight -- which at 8 yrs old is pretty darn good. He goes back to it now an again and still enjoys it.
Snap Circuits FM Radio Opinions
Fun and educational . My eight year old grandson was excited to find that he could really construct this radio. It has held up to a two year old and a puppy "exploring" it. I would strongly recommend this toy.
Fun but directions for additional projects not very clear . We purchased the Snap Circuits Jr. kit a couple months ago (Christmas present) for our 5 year old son because we thought he'd enjoy it. We underestimated how much: we thought he'd like it, but he LOVES it-- to the point of obsession. He spends hours a day building circuits and really has learned quite a bit. He expressed excitement and enthusiasm for acquiring other kits (he's built every one of the 101 projects in the SC100 kit at least a dozen times at this point...). So when it came time to acknowledge a job well done, I thought this little kit would be a nice reward (some of the snap circuits kits are very expensive; these mini kits seem quite reasonably priced). He was really excited to build a radio because some of the parts are different than what he has in the Jr kit- specifically the adjustable resistor, amplifier, and the FM receiver (plus a higher voltage (4.5v) battery, it runs on 3 AA) they may be redundant for other kits, I'm not sure.
In any case, he was very excited, and was able to assemble a working radio in a short time (I helped him the first time, but he subsequently was able to take apart and reassemble by himself no problem). He was delighted. He was really excited about the additional projects, too (there are 3 other circuits you can build from this kit) but the directions are very difficult to understand. The radio circuit is depicted pictorially (as are all 100 circuits in the SC100 kit) but for some reason, the additional projects in this kit are not pictured; there are just written directions and they are difficult to understand. My son is a very proficient reader, so that's not it (even I was having a hard time deciphering the instructions, and I have a college degree). It just seems like a couple more diagrams would make this kit a lot more user friendly.
For anyone else with kids that like this kit, check out the SC100 and 300 kits. My son can't wait to upgrade and is asking for the snap rover kit for his birthday in a few months. He's hooked. Overall from both a fun and educational perspective I've been really satisfied with these toys. As far as durability, what we have has been experiencing heavy use for a couple months and so far has held up well. There are little improvements to be made here and there (I also intend to review the SC 100) but overall I think they're great and if the enthusiasm persists, I see us buying more.
snap circuits radio . Have purchased several of the Snap Circuits products of the past two years. All have been essential to teaching our
child about the flow of electricity. Our 6 year old may not play with them every day, but they are always used throught the year. We were particularly suprised how much our son loved the radio. Yes its only been a week but a day hasn't gone by where he hasn't listened to it. He loves the fact you can change the station. The fact that he trys to redirect and recreate a new path for the flow, whether its right or wrong is the main reason why we buy these products. We will not hesitate to purchase more of their products in the future.Snap Circuits FM Radio
Easy to Setup and Use . I got this for my son and my two boys (ages 6 and 7) had a good time putting it together. I had to give them a little guidance but not too much. They enjoyed assembling it and went to bed tonight listening to their new radio. The parts appear to be durable and of good quality and snap together easily.
Snap Circuit Radio . This was bought for boy on his 8th birthday. It took him about 15 minutes to put it together by himself with no assistance other than the instructions and us reminding him to READ them as he is putting it together. The only problem we found was that we live in a pretty wooded area and the stations took a while to find the radio, but now it works perfectly and he uses it quite often. He was so proud of himself that he was able to put it together without any help and we found it to be informational for him.
Great Choice . I sent this to my great-nephew for Christmas. My sister, his grandmother, happened to be there and she said they had a great time doing all the projects. She was so impressed that she is going to order one for herself.
Very basic product . Bought this product for my 10yr old kid. She was able to assemble in few minutes. (Not challenging at all). The radio performance is very poor.
scientific learning tool . This is a great scientific learning tool for my grandson. I am pleased with the purchase. He enjoys creating something "hi-tech".
