Microscope Slide Making Set - Advanced Level AAA - This comprehensive microscope slide making kit includes a 100 Cavity Wooden Slide Box, 72 Clear Glass Microscope Slides, 100 - 18x18mm Glass Coverslips, 100 22x22mm Glass Coverslips & 10gr Round Glass Coverslips. The microtome is suitable for slicing micro thin sections from 0.01mm (10 microns). It consists of a piston screwed into a tube whose free end is fixed into a flat plate serving as a stage. The knurled head at the bottom of the instrument moves the piston up or down the central tube when rotated. The specimen is fixed on the flat top of the piston and sections are cut by drawing a razor over the upper flat surface of the instrument. It is equipped with a clamping mechanism for objects of different shapes and is graduated in 10 micron (0.01mm) steps. The microtome advances 500 microns (0.50mm) for each complete turn and is supplied with a single edge tempered steel razor knife. Packed in a sturdy wooden case. Includes all items shown in the photos including 30ml mountant, 30ml methylene blue stain, 30ml crystal violet stain, 30ml safranin stain, a wood test tube rack & 6 culture tubes with corks. There is a 50ml glass beaker, 2 dropping pipets, 2 glass rods, a nichrome innoculating needle and nichrome loop with aluminum handles. There is also a 75mm watch glass, 100mm plastic petri dish, 40z poly bottle, 2oz amber bottle, 2-1oz poly specimen jars and a 2oz alcohol lamp. Also included is a set of surgical grade stainless steel micro dissecting instruments in carrying case that has a round form scalpel handle, 2 each sizes 11, 12 & 15 scalpel blades, 4¼" iris scissors, 4¼" Westcott spring scissors, micro scalpel 18x3mm blade, micro scalpel 30x3mm blade, dissecting needles - straight, curved, full spear & half spear. There is also a 5½" S/B operating scissor and one cover glass forcep and test tube brush.

Impressive Starter Kit . This kit is impressive. My wife is a scientist and remarked how good the quality of the surgical instuments was and how she would have liked them when she was a student. The microtome is great and the service from Best Science remarkable. This is a starter kit and you will need additional chemicals to keep going. These may be difficult to obtain cheaply in the required quantities say 100 - 1000 ml. You need to use your imagination. e.g. alcohol may be difficult to source cheaply in your country in small quantities, heck we make the stuff in South Africa but I don't want 200 litres! TRY: fuel grade alcohol from cooking gel manufacturers and collect from their factory. The kit did not come with instructions or wax. The wax may be difficult to get (also expected to buy 200 kg by suppliers). Try good quality candle wax. Overall I am very happy and have bought the gram kit as well.
