Just wanted to point something out. . For a lot of you, this review will not be so helpful. For those of us who like to keep electronic devices constantly going for the aesthetics, ease of use and fun of it, though, this device may lack the durability you are seeking in a toy you could leave on and forget. As with all things of this nature, your mileage will very.About less than two hundred hours of non constant use, my plasma ball began to melt at the inside of its base. I stopped using it after I discovered this. That would explain my two star rating in that particular category.
This is neat . This is a neat little Tesla ball. It plugs into your USB, and is small so it doesn't take up room, but big enough to play with. If you get a USB AC adapter, it can plug into your wall too.
Plasma Ball . My kids really enjoy this and their friends have a lot of fun with it as well. They plug it in to the laptop and watch the electricity happen. They've had it for a week, but as soon as people come in, the ball comes out.
Fascinating to watch . My daughter loves to see the lights reach out to her fingertips when she touches it. Very cool.

Cons Review
Great little plasma ball . The first plasma ball I received was DOA right out of the box. This is understandable, as items like this are rather cheaply mass produced, and there usually isn't a whole lot of quality control (Thinkgeek is not the manufacturer, so they aren't to blame). What sets this particular ball apart however, is that it is sold by a reputable company (Thinkgeek) and a replacement was sent to me right away. The replacement works exactly as advertised, and it is a nifty desk accessory for sure.

For ten dollars plus shipping, I can't really complain too much about the build quality. If Thinkgeek wasn't reputable, and getting a replacement was a hassle, I'd be more inclined to complain. As it is though, I have every confidence that if this ball were to die, I could get it replaced by Thinkgeek's excellent customer service. I couldn't be happier with the customer service I received from Thinkgeek.

As for the actual ball, it is a small plastic sphere that is powered via USB (no batteries required). Once plugged in, it can be turned off using the On/Off switch on the base of the ball. Turning it on delivers eight to ten thin blue and pink/purple arcs of electricity, which can be focused into one bigger arc using your finger (if it is big enough) or palm. The arcs are easily visible with overhead lights on (or outside, I would assume) but are more easily viewed in darker situations. This may be redundant to point out, but this may be beneficial for some: This ball will absolutely not shock you, unless you are careless enough to place metal on it first, and then touch that (which is a bad idea with plasma balls; See any number of videos on youtube). I would recommend this item for a child, although I'd say that supervision is a good idea, as with all devices that are plugged in.
Awesome Plasma Ball . This is the perfect desktop trinket for a good price! I've been saying it's the best $20 I've spent since I got it :D
