Good for the price but... . I bought this solar oven out of curiosity and to become familiar with solar cooking in general. I had a few problems with it. When I took it out of the box, I found that the instructions telling you how to unpack it were INSIDE what I would later learn was the cooking box, behind the see-through cover. I had to cut through the cover to retrieve the instructions, not knowing the cover was essential, and later had to tape it. I guess I should have turned it over and pulled on the plastic handle on the bottom, but I didn't think of turning it over! Speaking of the handle, it's on the other side of the bottom of the black bottom cooking box, and the first time I used it, the plastic handle connector melted and is now connected on only one side.

Anyway, here's how it works. The solar collector panels direct the heat into the cooking box. The solar panels plus the see through cover make a "lid" that fits over the bottom box, in nested fashion just like a regular box. The bottom box has a black interior with a plastic handle on the bottom to make it easier to pull it out. You put the cooking dish, for instance a small round casserole dish with a clear lid or no lid, inside the cooking box, then fit the solar panel piece over it. The fit is snug and I've never had bugs get into it. I think it quickly becomes too hot for them anyway! Take care not to let the cooking dish come in contact with the see through cover connected to the solar panels, or the see through cover will melt when the cooking dish gets hot.

I had trouble getting regular dishes to fit inside the cooking box. A 1.5 qt round Pyrex casserole dish fit pretty well, but with the casserole dish lid on, the solar oven top wouldn't fit without touching the top of the casserole lid (which is domed) - I propped the top of the solar oven up with clothes pins to create the necessary separation from the see through lid. An 8 X 8 baking dish was a pretty good fit, uncovered.

If I were going to cook solar on a regular basis, I would buy a bigger boxed oven, or make my own. Definitely heed the warning to wear sunglasses when working with it in the sun! It's very bright.

I cooked two thick pork chops in under 4 hours, and thoroughly heated a green bean casserole in 2 hours. Both times I used it were in the summer. I haven't used it since.

Don't let it get rained on. It's basically just a cardboard box!

Just Cardboard . Well, this says it all. This is just a toy, and for that it is fine. But this is not a serious solar oven for actual practical use, because it is just cardboard covered with foil and it is quite small.
