Ant farm great for little ones . This ant farm was a lot of fun for my 6 year old. He was fascinated by the tunnels the ants made.The included light made the tunnels seem to glow in the dark when turned on so this could be used as a nightlight. I would however reccomend you buy the ants at the same time as the ant farm because this ships super fast. Do not try to catch the ants yourself because they will not be of adequate size to make the tunnels. The gel is too sticky for smaller varieties of ants. One thing I really liked is that it was not difficult for me to open but was too dificult to open for him so he could not release the ants all over the house. Overall a great toy and durable enough for preschoolers.

great gift . Ordered this for my six year old nephew for Christmas. He also got an ipodtouch, however; he said the ant farm was his best present. Awesome!

Fun Educational and Great-Looking . This ant farm turned out to be a lot smaller than I thought, and the nature of the gel sometimes makes it a little hard to see the ants as they tunnel. However, it is very, very cool. The ants start digging right away, and it's very entertaining to watch the tunnels grow, spread and connect. Once the ants create tunnels, the farm begins to look like a modern art piece. The backlighting of the gel gives it a very cool effect, and the light sparkles as the ants move in their tunnels. I bought the farm for my husband, but my kids are absolutely fascinated by it, and it has made them curious about ants. It's a little pricey, but it was probably one of the most-enjoyed gifts this Christmas, and it was fun for all of us.

Great in a 1st grade classroom loved by everyone Kinder - 5th!!! . We bought this for a first grade class - a lesson on communities - and we just used a few ants that we (the adults) caught in a field. Within the first 24 hours there were significant changes. The kids loved to go see what the ants were doing. We even had frequent visits from students in various grade levels - more & more kiddos each day wanted to see the changes!!! It is secure, so no ants can escape; it is lighted, so it can always be viewed; it can be rinsed out & reused when the ants die!!

Awesome! . We love this ant farm. It is so much fun to watch them work. Everyday there is something new to look at. We are amazed at how much they do in a 24 hour period...
2 yr old not impressed . Maybe she was just too young, but she didn't find the ants interesting at all. It's very small, be forewarned. Smaller than a magazine cover.
My husband and I liked the light, but my daughter preferred it with the light off. I did like that she couldn't get the ants out.
We got some carpenter ants from outside, and though they did eventually dig tunnels, they, um, got too cold in our house and huddled near the light.
