Optical Calcite - Bulk Mineral Info - Calcite is the most common mineral next to quartz. Optical calcite is less common. It is shaped sort of like a rectangle which has been stretched (a rhombohedron). It is clear with a glassy luster and makes objects placed behind it appear double (due to different indices of refraction of light it has). Flawless specimens are used in optical instruments.
Great for science projects or classroom collection.
Please be aware that this is a natural mineral and as such each piece is one of a kind! The one you receive may not be exactly the same as the ones pictured but it will be similar. honest company . I contacted this company and asked for the three rock pieces listed and shown in picture. They have now sent the additional calcite. There is fine print in this add indicating this is for 1 piece only. The company has fixed the problem. Originally we were sent only one piece. This is good calcite, 1 inch pieces approximately that are see through and have some double refractory properties depending on how you hold them to the light.

Is calcite clear....you tell me....beautiful specimen! . If you know of someone that loves calcite, then pick up this one. It was part of a gift bundle and was really loved!
