Very cool grabs people's attention . Bought one of these (that doesn't rotate) nearly two years ago (it has been on continuously.) If you want to have somthing floating on your desk with nothing above and around an inch of air space underneath... it's pretty cool. The device uses a combination of rare earth magnets and electronic controls and coils to keep it floating. It's silent, interesting, and a great conversation piece for the office. I'll probably buy another one if the electronics in this one ever fail (it's getting harder to get it to float, I suspect the electronics are getting weaker.) Probably most appealing to engineers and scientist types. The chrome base is nice. I do wish they would cover the silver band in the middle of the globe.

Hours of entertainment . We got this for a 13 year old boy who is into anything scientific. It is a winner. It sits on his desk as he does his home work and slowly spins. It is easy to center with a little dexterity and spins with a slight touch or blow through your lips. If you are clumsy or impatient, don't get this. Place it somewhere safe so it doesn't get bumped, as it will fall if the base is moved. We have had it for about 4 months now and the attraction hasn't waned. This globe is not a fast action toy, but rather a dream-maker.

Techie's converstation piece! . This is a marvelous piece of engineering for the price. Unlike the prior versions which simply suspend the globe beneath an electromagnet and increase or decrease the strength of the field to keep it suspended, this unit uses a three dimensional system to stabilize the globe magnet above the base magnet. This gives the appearance of true levitation as opposed to something that is suspended like a pendulum. I can not (yet) tell you exactly how it is done but have had a look inside. The base contains a large ring magnet and the globe a smaller one. Of course, the poles are arranged so that they repel each other. In the center of the base there is a sensor that somehow provides position feedback once the "floater" is stabilized above the base. I suspect it may be an array of hall-effect devices but I am not sure. There are electromagnetic coils to vary the field and these seem to provide a sort of three point suspension. The base can be carefully lifted and the globe can be touched gently and rotated without loosing stability. By the way, the base requires power of 12 volts DC at less than 1 amp.

Can't make it work . It arrived today in the mail. For the past 3 hours, my wife, daughter (13), and I have each been taking turns trying to make it float, all to no avail.We are all very frustrated.The instructions are useless, one page, basically says "keep trying!" The instruction videos on YouTube make it look effortless. It's not.I even asked Yoda to help me use the Force.I could not make it work.

ahi . Great for kids and adults. Was used for school science fair. Everyone loved it and want to touch and experience device floating in mid air.
Cons Review
OK . Not that impressed.We bought this for our son ... he too was not that impressed. I will say it did work, but still for the price, I felt ripped off! If you have a kid that really wants one, go ahead, just don't expect miracles
