From top to bottom in the picture above are the Crystal Canyon geodes from the Copper Canyon Region, "Chihuahua" geodes from the outskirts of Chihuahua City, and the world famous Las Choyas or "Coconut" geodes from El Mesteno Ranch (sometimes have amethyst inside). Spectacular geology lesson . I ordered these as a surprise at the culmination of a homeschool geology group for 7-10 year olds. The idea of cracking open rocks, especially after we had investigated how geodes are formed, was very exciting to the kids, and I am happy to say that no one was disappointed! We broke the first one open inside a sock as recommended - very dusty, and the geode broke into multiple pieces rarher than two neat halves. However, the appearance of crystals inside the pieces was quite a thrill to everyone, and then the kids all began guessing what the inside of their own rocks might look like. Using a chisel and a hammer to break them open gave a much more predictable result - two or three sizable pieces with very lovely crystals and the classic geode pocket. The kids still speak fondly of geology. :)

Nice Geodes . I was a little worried to get these because one of the reviews said that most of the geodes were duds. Every one of my geodes had crystals in them. My 10 year old niece loved it. She was very excited after breaking the first one because the crystals were purple! Some seemed harder to crack than others especially the purple one, it had a hard outer shell. I would definitely buy this kit again.

Thanksgiving geode breaking with my family! Awesome! . I decided to buy a geode set for the family to break open on Thanksgiving. We had an awesome time breaking them open. Incredibly they were all hollow and had really nice crystals inside. Everyone was fighting over the identification guide that came with the geodes to see what was inside of theirs. Amazing rocks!!! . The rocks are hard to open but well worth the effort! we used a hammmer and scored them around the rock some opened in half and some opened in pieces. We didn't have any duds!! All of the crystals were very nice and different!!! They give you a book so as to look them up....we have a few rare ones!! Have fun hammering!!
For once I can say I gifted a box of rocks for Christmas. . Well, once these arrived I was really curious as to how these would break and look. We got to open the box and check it out before wrapping it and the one thing that stood out... Was it was all covered in dust (dirt dust, not shelf dust)! Like the box was taken on the hike and packaged out in the field then shipped from out in the field!
Anyways, the box was cleaned up a bit and wrapped. I gave the gift to my mom, yes you read that right, MY MOM. She loves Geodes and I thought this would have been fun for her. Well, the joke was on me, because when she opened it, she really thought I gave her a box of just that.. ROCKS! lolThen I handed her a hammer (don't know what I was thinking there), told her to break open a rock... She tried to break it open on the rug, I quickly removed hammer from her possession and took it outside to the solid concrete patio and broke one open.
(Now comes to the awesome part) She absolutely loved it. I told her that all 12 were random in what it contained and it's like having one of her decorative geodes, but golf ball sized.Next day, I found out she had broken all 11 rocks, except one that was doubled up. Yes, in a way we got 13, there were 12 pieces total, but one was actually attached side by side. She enjoyed the geodes so much and can't wait to display them. Now the jokes on me, because she wants me to build a display cabinet. T~TOVERALL: This was an awesome gift, also if you know how to play it right, it can be a great joke and great gift in one. Each piece was as described, no duds here. Absolutely beautiful little geodes, very sparkly and the colors are awesome. If you know someone who loves geodes and you want to have them, or yourself, break open some without having to hunt them down. This is a must get.Also for the durable rating as only 2 stars, well, you have to break them with a hammer, I mean, they're meant to be broken. =)

Geodes . I bought these for my 12 year old son who has a interest in rocks as a Christmas gift. He was a little surprised to receive rocks for a gift, especially since his younger brother gave him some rocks from the driveway wrapped up earlier. After we had some laughs and explained what they were he was very excited and could not wait to open them. We used a shop grindder to score the geodes then used a cold chisel and tap it it lightly all the way around until they broke open in perfect half's. These make a great gift.
Pleased! . This was for my nephew's 10th birthday and he and his father said that it was both of their favorite gift of the year.
a lot of fun . I take my six-year-old daughter to a natural history Museum where she is fascinated by the geology displays. We have a lot of fun identifying the various crystals and admiring items for sale in the gift shop ( shockingly overpriced). The last time we were there I purchased some "break your own geodes" figuring she would have fun discovering the crystals inside at home. The ones we bought from the museum were relatively small and not very impressive so I went online and googled the product and found them for sale on Amazon. Trusting this website I had no problem buying the larger geodes and they came within 48 hours. They were measurably better than the ones we got from the museum and my daughter had a lot of fun opening each one.As a word of advice.... If you have a wet saw ( used for cutting tiles) you can slice these geodes in half exactly like you would buy at the store. You get a professional finish and you can even spray them with a little protective coating to keep them shiny. If you're searching for this item you will not be disappointed by this seller or their products. Their shipping is extremely quick and the products are top notch. Have fun!
Not worth the money . Well the title says "high quality" these geodes are horrible. All but 2 were duds. Not worth the money I paid for these. They say large geodes. Only one was over 3in in diameter. Very unhappy with what I got!!!
