Easy to assemble and fun for my 8 year old. . I helped my 8 year old son assemble this robot. He enjoyed putting it together, it took about 15 minutes. Then we had fun setting up paper and watching the robot in action. We can change how it moves by adjusting the angle of the pens and the pen holders.
We tested it, and the pens ARE washable ink. Whew!

Fun gadget . Bought this doodling robot for my 8 year old son. He enjoyed putting it together and could do most of it himself, which he thought was great. When the robot is assembled, it doesn't really "walk" on the paper... it just vibrates itself around. You can change the drawing patterns by adjusting the angles of the pens, but that's about the extent. It is a fun gadget, but if you are truly looking for robotics, you may want to consider a different product.

The robot rotates and vibrates in circles due to an unbalanced weight on the robot top. I place an 11 X 17 paper on the bottom of a cookie sheet. I then turn the robot on and it doodles in circles and creates a colorful pattern.

Boring . Thought this would be lots of fun so I bought it for my 8 yr old son for the holidays. He couldn't wait to play with it. But after 15 minutes of doing the same thing over and over he was bored. Better suited for younger kids who don't expect a lot to happen but they will need supervision as the robot tends to go off the paper and draw on the surface below.
Doodling done by a robot . It's a cute toy and really nothing else. It hasn't got much in the way of educational value but that's not why I bought it. I only mention it because the ratings for it had a 'How would you rate this toy's educational value' rating. Who gives a rat's butt? It's a toy. Pure and simple. No one even spanks their child any more but they're all up in arms about how much of an educational value the toys give. It's silly. But as pure all out no-educational value toys go, this one's pretty fun. If you're an adult, my suggestion to you is get it, play with it long enough to see how it works, then give it to a kid and watch how much enjoyment it gives him or her.
Interesting concept . I bought this for my 10 year old son, he put it together within 5 minutes of opening it (great for self-esteem) but it doesn't really "walk" around on the paper to draw anything. He was bored within another 5 minutes and it's now sitting on a shelf.
Excellent toy . Simple, easy to understand directions. Construction seems durable, and my niece loves it.The toy is like a free-standing spirograph for those who remember what a spirograph is. It vibrates and rotates to make patterns that change depending on the length and angles the markers held at.
