Reconsider Tank . I bought this for my very curious, very animal-loving 6 year old. She was thrilled to have some pets of her very own. But, I wish I would have thought twice about the type of tank I was buying. While the concept is pretty neat, the lid does not stay put, and the tank is pretty shallow, which makes it scarey to move, even though you don't fill it all the way. I have two other, younger children, and the easy access is a very real concern. I would have preferred a lid that snapped on top to this. But, my little girl is thrilled that they are hatching, which they have done with less than ideal water conditions, although slowly.
She dropped the lid a couple times and it split, but didn't break. I was happy it wasn't the tank.
Overall, I gave this 4 stars, although I would have rather given 3.5 because 3 wasn't enough, considering the excitement level of my little one.

Interesting tank big flaws. . This is a review of the tank, and what is included in this kit rather than "if the SeaMonkeys worked" like most reviews of SeaMonkey tanks seem to spend most of their time on. I will be doing reviews of the tanks for how well they function, and what is included in them.There are three different Mini-World tanks. The Hang 10, In the City, and On The Moon kits. For some reason, the City tank is no longer in production, or just cannot be found anywhere, but the other two kits are pretty widely available, even in 2012.One problem I have with the mini world kits are the price. They retail for 14.99, which is the same price as the On Mars and Magic Castle kits, which are much more complex kits, with more features and accessories. If the price was 9.99, or even 11.99, these would get a solid 4 stars from me.The construction on these tanks are not that solid. You really need to check these out before you buy them, because over half of the ones I saw at the store had been cracked. They are packaged in a "blister pack", not a box, and are easily damaged.The lid on mine did not fit on snugly at all to the base. It doesn't click, or even really sit on... you kind of just let it sit there. I wish it would lock into the tank, and be secure, and not loose and floating around.Another problem with these tanks is how awful the scenery is in these. It's so... basic. Look at the painting and scenery for the "On Mars' and "magic castle" sets. They have beautiful plastic structures in them, interesting shades of colors, and lots of realistic details. These Mini World kits have really ugly, basic, and almost childish scenery to them. Fortunately, the On The Moon tank doesn't look that bad, but just look at the Hang 10 set. They are not very pleasant to look at. These sets would be a lot cooler if they used the same details and textures they used on some of their other tanks. I don't understand why they look so cheap and crude. It looks like a child created these structures with clay, and painted over them.The only real positive about these tanks are the shape of them. And it's not particularly because they are a better shape than the other tanks, it's just I wanted something different. I was tired of the trippy, eye straining On Mars tank designs, and the boring Ocean Zoo tanks. This tank is like a big cube, you can get a clear view of your SeaMonkeys by looking down from the top, or looking through the sides.There is no Aqua Lease included with these, or Plasma III (Which is now included with On Mars and Magic Castle kits).Overall, if you enjoy collecting SeaMonkey tanks, pick one of these up for the interesting tank design, but if you are looking for just one tank to start SeaMonkeys, get an On Mars or Magic Castle kit.

cool toy . Very neat product. It's a new way to have a classic toy/pet. Everyone loves sea monkeys! It was actually larger than I was expecting it to be.
These ain't yo' daddy's Sea Monkeys (oh wait that's me...) . This is a great little Sea Monkey set, with some added interest over the classic container. I used it to raise a hugely successful population that thrived for several years with minimal care. Even after all these years, this is still a fun and inexpensive little kit.
Sea Monkeys are Cool! This Tank is a BUST. . I love Sea Monkeys. They are fun to watch grow. I've had the classic tall red tank and it was great. This tank is too squat and it makes it really hard to "air" them without the special tool that has to be bought separately. Maybe that was the plan....Anyway-I recommend the taller/thiner tank so it is easy to pour the water to "air" them. Be sure to follow ALL of the directions.
Holy P-a-t-i-e-n-c-e!!! . "But I don't see anything!" I said. While I waited... for days, and days and days, I wondered what it would be like for a child to experience that kind of slow, sinking, disappointment. After all, the instructions said they would, "Spring to life in front of my very eyes!"
Not so much.
I'm in Maine and it's winter, so I decided to put the tank on top of a heating pad on Low.
Still nothing.
Dumped it out (after a long while of waiting (im)patiently) and exchanged it for another kit. This time I boiled the water, cooled it, and then added the 1st packet. I also waited the FULL 24 hours and kept the "room temperature" tank on the heating pad. Then I added the 2nd packet... still nothing. Total bummer. With my nose pressed to the magnifying windows, I spent day after day waiting for something, anything, to happen. A sign of life. Anything, other than the weird debris that would float up on an air bubbles after it was aerated.
Days and weeks went by and then... I forgot about them. Not-quite-a-month later, I picked up the tank, ready to dispose of the watery mess and HOLY COW! It's ALIVE! One lone Sea Monkey swam around. I squealed with delight. It is cute!
So, armed with this knowledge I bought another batch (everybody needs friends) and am now biding my time... 3 hours and counting! We'll see, fingers crossed.

No Monkeys . Huh, these might be a huge scam, we bought 3 of these...carefully followed the directions on 2 of them, waited patiently...No Monkeys! My kids were so upset.....Didn't even try the 3rd set just to avoid their heartache and my frustration.....
