Much bigger than expected . These letter boards are twice as big as I expected them to be. Based on what my kids have used in their Montessori preschool in the past, I expected these to be the same size as those. I was used to something around 4-5 inches square, but these are 8 inches square. I expected Montessori materials to be expensive and expected wood items to be heavy to ship, but not like these were. Once I opened them I understood why it cost so much. Had there been more detail in the description telling the size, I probably would have looked at one of the sites that sell directly to the schools to find the smaller sets. Now I have to decide whether or not to get a matched set for the lower case letters and numbers or look elsewhere and just have sets that don't match. Anyway, these are like traditional Montessori letters and my daughter is excited to start using them. They just were much, much bigger than expected. I gave durability 3 stars only because I haven't begun to use them yet and really don't know how durable they are.
