An incomplete review is better than none? . Usually I try to leave reviews I know more about, but this item has NONE. I had to cross my fingers and hope, and I'd like to spare you the same degree of uncertainty.I found this because I'm a geek with a science degree and a toddler niece, and I'm frustrated by the paucity of science toys and books for the very young. She can have exposure to ballerinas, fire fighters, and doctors, but there's very little toddler science play around. My niece lives with a seven year old she loves to imitate, so getting him science tools ensures her interest.The Geosafai Tuff Scope has rave reviews but is sold out everywhere. This has the same screws, knobs, design details, and specs, and I suspect it's really the same product underneath the branding. I recommend looking at the reviews for it even though it's an unobtainable item unless you get it in an expensive bundle.I bought his and had it shipped to my sister in Hawaii, but warned her to open and test the thing before potentially disappointing children with it. "It works!" she said, "and this is SO COOL! I love it!"We have one happy science fan, at least! The scope came with two empty slides and one with cotton, which she used to test the scope. I told her that the reviews for the Geosafari scope indicated it survived slams onto concrete patios, and she agreed that the scope she got "looks that tough." I had to explain why it came off of the base, though, as that wasn't readily obvious.That's all I know for now, and with the scope in Hawaii that might be all I ever know, but I'm very pleased with my purchase and expect both kids will love it.Added Information a week later: The 7 year old loves this and keeps taking it out to look at the provided cotton slide, but has decided to wait for his father to return from an Underway (the Navy version of a Deployment, I'm told) before looking at other materials. My sister has decided not to give this to the niece, "tuff" or not, but used her exasperated exhausted mother voice to tell me that the niece throws fits because she has no microscope to imitate the 7 year old with. The whole idea is for the niece to gain some science interest, so I purchased this for her: Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope. She LOVES it, but that's another review for another page. ^_^
