Craftymom . I ordered this product for my 10 year old daughter a few months ago. By mistake, the company sent the wrong product, but happily corrected the mistake and sent me a new one when they knew of the error. They're a good company to work with. My daughter had a lot of fun with the kit - she loves fossils and was happy to have a kit to dig for them. The medium is sandy, so it's relatively easy to find them, no hammering or frustration involved. I would recommend both the company and the kit.

A great resource for science & history . I recently gave this set to my homeschooled children, ages 10 and 8, and they had a wonderful time with it! We have been studying prehistory, evolution, fossils, and more - this kit made a wonderful, hands-on addition to those studies. The enclosed information book is clear and concise, with great pictures, so my children were easily able to identify the fossils they carefully excavated from the kit. We went a little further -, by gluing the specimens to a sheet of mat board (poster board) and then carefully labeling them.I would highly recommend this kit as a fantastic learning tool!Edited to add; When we originally used the kit, my children were a bit disappointed that we seemed to be missing a fossil specimen. I contacted the Dr. Cool company, and asked about purchasing an extra fossil. Instead, they generously sent several great additions to our collection, along with a couple of fantastic crystal specimens! I will definitely be buying more of their products in the future!

Lots of fun . The item was totally cool, a brick of sand contained in a aluminum pan with 10 fossils embedded in the sand. We had lots of fun unearthing the fossils. Most fossils were unpolished but one had been polished and was quite pretty. Expect to have sand all over the floor unless you put the whole thing in a larger container. The tools included were adequate to do the digging (but a plastic letter opener worked better). Unfortunately, the "brick" had been broken in several large pieces during shipping. Considering the amber kit when my child is older.

Great toy! . My 7 year old nephew, who refuses to stay still for more than 5 minutes, was totally absorbed by this toy. He loved digging them out and cleaning them off with the brush. It kept him busy and happy for a long time and he still has all his fossils displayed in his room. Worth the money.
Excellent . My son is really into rocks and fossils. This kit took time to "dig" and chisel out of the fossils. Some of the fossils were truly beautiful. GREAT product. Worth every penny.
Amateur Paleontologists Start Digging! . What a great toy for a young scientist! My nephew loves dinosaurs and fossils, and this was the perfect birthday present for him. He has a crazy imagination, so he quickly dove into the kit like he was in a desert digging up dinosaur fossils. The kit itself is extremely well put together, informative, and fun. I would recommend this to anyone who has a little one who loves fossils that is looking for a fun hands-on learning experience.
Pile of dust . My son had received a similar gift several years ago and enjoyed it very much. So when I saw this I immediately thought of my 7-year-old nephew. It arrived promptly and the box looked fine. I wrapped it and put it under the Christmas tree. When my nephew opened this he immediately wanted to dig for the fossils, so we opened the box and got ready for him to have lots of fun "digging" for his fossils. Unfortunately, when we opened all the packaging it was basically a box full of dust with some fossils mixed in with the dust. In less than 3 minutes he had "found" all the fossils. While he was excited about the fossils and thought they were cool, this was definitely not the experience I was expecting he would have. When my son received a similar gift several years ago he spent at least a couple of hours chipping away to find his fossils. Very, very disappointed with this product. Would not recommend.
Loved this kit! . This fossil digging kit was great fun! We really liked the specimens that we found inside. The adventure guide was great and we learned about each one. Huge hit at our house.
