My Son Loves It . My two year old is fascinated by tornadoes. He received this as a gift and absolutely loved it. I am here to replace it after he burnt out the motor. I am not at all surprised or disappointed as this was after a few months of constant play (and possibly had to do with some pepper getting into the motor...what can I say he loves the pepper grinder). We did not have any issues with leaking. Definitely tell your kid to be careful not to knock it over because it will spill all over. The top comes off easily so you can add the little beads that swirl around. If your child enjoys this as much as mine stock up on batteries!!!

I thought I should add that my son mysteriously got this thing working again after fishing it out of the recycling bin. We have since had to go to the back-up because it started leaking a few weeks later...
Discovery Kids Extreme Weather Tornado Lab Reviews
My son loves it! . I bought this for my six year old son. He absoultly loves it! I am baffled by the bad reviews as we have had not problems with leaks or durability.
Discovery Kids Extreme Weather Tornado Lab Opinions
No problems with durability here. . I have sold literally dozens of these with no returns or complaints, so I was surprised to see the negative review here, and decided to open one and see for myself.

It seems well made and durable, and I actually found it quite fascinating to watch it in action.

I think that it should probably be used with supervision, as it is less toy than educational plaything.
Extreme Weather Tornado lab is a great buy . My son has played with this toy at last once every day since purchased when we are home. It has been a color mixing lab, of course it is a tornado simulator...it has resulted in our reading weather books...drawing spirals, cutting out spirals, spinning like a tornado, looking at the milk way photos and wondering if tornadoes occur in space...and more. We've tried hot and cold water to see any distinctions...look at the balls and squares (plastic balls and foam squares) provided with it to see the formation of the vortex.... You get the idea....imagination has no limits.

Leakage: Well...let me tell you...ours did start to leak...just today. However, we've now had it for 8 months..and for the price paid...it does not upset me in the least. Our tornado button that you turn to up the power has now been stripped....we can only simulate an F3....but that's because it's been used sooo much!

Again - I'm not upset...this toy got played with - ALOT!! In fact - I love this toy so much that I'm buying a backup replacement for my son and putting a few up as gifts for my son's science and classroom teachers...and for other friends. I think that tells you how much I love this product and do hope you have the same experience.
Tornado Lab . I just got ours in the mail and it is horrible. It leaked from the very first time. It was a huge disappointment.
Discovery Kids = cheapset possible quality . Discovery Kids toys and science projects are so cheaply made, they breaks even with light usage. Don't even think of buying any of their stuff for your kid for a present. It will break the third time your kid uses it and you kid will be crying. And to top it off, if you buy from any retailer, they will without question not honor the warranty.

If you don't believe me, check some of the other reviews; you'll read it over and over again.

Shop around and find a toy or science project with a good review before you open your wallet.
This toy did not even last the length of the DVD. . We purchased this item for my son for Christmas. He loves science and weather phenomenon, so this is right up his alley. The day we took it out of the box, the machine itself seemed fine, but the instructions and DVD were out of the little green "booklet" that came with it. I was already mumbling about packaging. Then, I had opened up the battery case, and one of the springs was laying in the middle of the battery channel.I work in Customer Service for appliances, so I know flukes can happen. I took it back to the store, brought the new one home, and everything was fine and dandy. We set it up, got it spinning. My son put it onto "5", and the spinner-paddle broke off. I took a look at it, and determined it could be put back on. However, time constraints meant I couldn't at that time. Later on, it was put back on... only to have the paddle come off AGAIN- I wasn't watching this time, so I don't know what size setting was used. My son really wanted it to work, so after I told him to put it away and we'll work on it later, he tried to put it on himself.. at which point the plastic paddle broke apart into 3 pieces. If you got a model that works and lasts better than this, great! The fact that other customers have had this product with better success is what is keeping it at 2 stars rather than 1. However, the experience that I've had makes me very dubious when it comes to future Discovery Kids purchases.
leaky product . Bought this for my son for Christmas. We filled the water basin and a vortex formed. Within minutes water began leaking from the grates located near the base, on the right side of the on/off button. Half of the water had leaked out in an hour so we powered it off. The next morning I found it sitting in a puddle almost completely drained of water. Do not buy this product. I am now looking for a more expensive tornado to replace this cheap crap.
low quality plastic toy . When the Tornado Lab arrived it was broken, so we never even got to try it out. It is made from very cheap plastic and the bottom of it was in dozens of pieces. It looks like it would be lots of fun and very educational if it were made from better quality materials.
Entertainment for the little ones . Got this for my four and six year old and they both enjoy it. The older one is really into weather and likes it a lot. They've maintained a steady interest for several days now but I don't know how long that will last. There's not much to it, although the tornado it makes is pretty cool and the pellets add another dimension. The younger one is autistic and really gets a kick out of it.No issues with leaking.
