assembling obvious ingredients and ideas better than I would . As a scientist mom you'd think I could easily get baking soda and vinegar from the kitchen and do these experiments without a stupid kit.
However I found that having specific "equipment" (test tubes) and "materials" engaged the interest of my kids. And most importantly, step by step suggestions for what experiments to do and what to say about them, helped me make this both interesting and educational for my kids.
My kids (3 and 4) went wild testing everything in the fridge to see if it contains acid (and thus if it would make baking soda fizz); they liked that they could guess from sourness and then test their predictions.
Ever since then my kids keep pestering me to do more chemistry. That's pretty significant. They make up (often quite wrong) theories about why different liquids fizz or mix the way they do. They got thinking about the fact that this is a question that can be asked, or that demands an explanation. To me that is a huge educational value.
Overall you could easily do the same things with kitchen materials and a well designed plan, but the kit makes it easy.

Science kit . I was a little disapointed with this kit. We have seen better. I have to say that it does have educational notes in with each experiment to help teach what is going on. I was expecting a wider variety of experiments and more props. Kids love most of all to mix things and there were no droppers or little scoops to allow them to do that. The "chemicals" were all in opaque silver lined bags so they were hard to pour and impossible to get a hand in to dig contents out meaning that mom had to pour it all into the one measuring spoon taking some of the fun out of it all. A different kit we had purchased came with test tubes, droppers, measuring cups, little scoops etc. and they had more fun when they were able to do more things themselves! It's not a bad product just looks more involved from the box than it really is.

Perfect kit for easy educational hands-on science that is truly open-and-go. . After attempting hands-on science by using a curriculum manual with my homeschooled children, I finally realized that I needed a "kit" that was open-and-go. And this kit was my answer!
Yes, there are items in the box that one would find in one's own pantry or cupboard, but I appreciate that everything is already there.
I used to use a curriculum, which claimed that all hands-on science experiments would require things found around the house. For some reason, however, those items were rarely in my home.
We have a large family, a child with special needs, are frequently running around taking a child to therapy, helping with our family's new business, etc. and I felt I was letting my children down by not following through with the experiments they so wanted to do.
I bought a few more "easy" science books and tried to implement those, but for one reason or another, things didn't work out.
A friend of mine suggested I look for some "science in a box" kits and I was nervous about what I would find. She recommended this company and I selected a couple of items, hoping it would work.
I was ecstatic when I opened the instructions to the first experiment to discover that the only items I had to fetch from my kitchen were a dish and a cup of water!
And as for future experiments, I have a very short list right up front of things I will plan to have on hand for when the time comes.

Unique and Interactive . An awesome interactive toy for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old. I haven't come across anything like this in Australia and I believe it will be endless amount of fun!!
Lots of bubbles little else. . I bought this with the Mind Blowing Science Kit. Skip the fizzy foamy stuff and just go straight to the mind blowing stuff! It'll save you $20.
Cons Review
waste of money . I did this with my 8 and 5 year olds. They were very excited about it- the box is very appealing. Sadly, there is more packaging than content. Kids lose interest after one "experiment." The "safe chemicals" are really just household items (you need to use your own anyway)- with a quick online search, you can make your own fizzy experiments. Any attempt to make this "educational" is a sham.

fun for my daughter . My daughter (6) has been having fun with this first science kit. It is good for her age, but she does need adult help with it.
Fun for Two . This kit was purchased as a gift for our 6 year old son. It has been a way for two (our son and one of us) to get together for some wholesome, educational, and quality fun time. We would highly recommend this kit. It is great to have everything you need for some basic experiments in one box.
Fun for Curious Kids . This is an excellent kit for any kid who is curious about the science of carbonation and other fizzy things. I remember creating baking soda and vinegar volcanoes when I was little and I always loved it. I would be surprised at any kid who DIDN'T enjoy this!
Easy but not very entertaining . This kit is easy to use and contains basically everything you need for some simple chemical reactions. I don't know why I was expecting something more though - it didn't hold the interest of my 4 year old... and I'm sure it's due to the fact that a big part of the kit is the colored tablets to tint the reactions. We already use color tablets in his bathtub so that didn't seem cool to him. If you don't already use those tablets in the bathtub - your child will probably think this is a little more magical.
