Very nice fishing toy. UPDATED! . I bought this for my 3-yr old son as a birthday gift and he's played with it for a couple of months now. Overall, I'd rate it 4 of 5 stars, a great toy with only minor complaints which kept me from giving it a perfect rating.
PROS: (2) Fishing poles, (4) Fishes + Container + Coins + Treasure Chest (a good variety instead of fish only toys), safe velcro method instead of using hooks, more challenging (in a good way) vs. using magnets, durable toy and thick string (fishing line).
CONS: Velcro on end of fishing pole came off twice and needed to glue it back on, fish toys are fairly heavy to reel up, sometimes velcro "hook" gets caught/tangled on carpet surface, coins are a little too small in size to catch.
Overall, it seems to be a pretty fun and durable toy that I would recommend to family and friends to buy for young kids. Thanks for reading my review.
*(January, 2011) EDIT: I guess it was bound to happen, the fishing line got tangled up in his toys and got a bunch of knots on the string. He was tying toys to the string and while holding the pole, would drag them around the house. This fishing pole has gone through a lot and didn't snap (sorry to read that it broke in other reviews). But it's time to throw that away since all the knots make it difficult to reel up anything. Luckily, there's the 2nd fishing pole I kept as a spare in the closet. Now, my son is playing with his fishing toys again, properly this time thanks to his daddy showing him how to play it and watching closely...haha.
*(June, 2011) EDIT: Just another update, my son is still playing with this fishing toy on occasion. It still works fine, fishing pole has been holding up to his sometimes rough use and string isn't in knots. Surprisingly, velcro at the end of the "hook" hasn't come off on this new pole despite it getting tangled in the carpet or from reeling up the heavy fish toys. I'm impressed with it, this is lasting longer than I thought. And I gotta admit, sometimes I'm taking turns with my son and playing with this fishing toy, too. The coins are small, so it's a fun challenge even for the adults. LOL!
*(August, 2011) EDIT: One year update, the second fishing pole broke last month. My son tied several toys onto the fishing line and started running while swinging it around. Before I could stop him, I heard the fishing pole snap and he said "sorry, daddy". Superglue won't work, but I figured out how to still use it without throwing it away. Since the top half of the pole is useless, I broke off the little plastic loop at the very tip (that the fishing line goes through) and now I can still use the bottom half of the pole with the line and reel attached. Sure the fishing pole is now only half the length, but it still works! A month so far with this "short" fishing pole and working fine, should last for a while...I hope.

Great for a party game! . I bought this game for my son's 7th birthday party and it was a big hit. Originally I thought that the 7 year olds would think they were a little too old for it, but if you use some of the suggestions on the box and use it as math game, it's great!

Fun but fragile. . This product is great, but the fishing poles were broken when we received the package. Also, it looks a lot bigger in the picture than it is in real life. Still overall a fun game.

Broken in 10 minutes . My kids broke both of the fishing rods within 5 minutes. Where the base of the white rod connects to the red reel is weak and will snap on both of them. This is not something that just happened to our toy, i think it is a design defect. This will be returned. I would avoid this toy.
good idea poor quality . my 2 year old loves this fishing set. the problem is that the worm on the end of the line uses Velcro to pick up the fish. after one day of use, the Velcro piece on the end of the worm had pulled off. we have had this toy for a week and i have had to super glue both worms twice. cute idea but poor design.
Velcro pulls off lure and fish the first time it's used . very poor quality, the velcro pulled off the various parts almost immediately. The item arrived with the strings in a massive tangle. No quality control in the production or packaging. It'll be in the garbage can within a week. Don't waste your money.
Frustrated Santa! . Horrible quality!! One of the rod came broken and the other one broke within the first hour of use. By that time, it had already lost the Velcro at the end of it so fishing was impossible! Also worth noting is that the toy is hard to use. You can't really fish with it -you have to attach the fish manually to the rod :( very disappointed!
Simple Fun . I purchased this toy for an 18 month old, and her 3 year old sister, 5 year old and 7 year old friend also had fun with it. The older kids played a fishing game, while the 3 year old counted the stripes on the fish. It is a great game that entertained a wide age range.
Cons Review
Poor quality . This game or toy lasted less than a day and both fishing rods did not reel and snapped and broke. This may be a fun concept but poor design and no durability. This is way overpriced and a waste of money. But like many child gifts the box was opened and thrown away and returning by shipping is not so convenient. I will be much more careful with any further orders. I should have requested "made in the USA" toys.
Fishing game . Bought this toy for my 3 1/2 year old grandson-he loves it! He says he and his daddy are going on vacation to go fishing! Great toy for child and parent play.
