105 piece pack??? . Was a little disappointed when my 2 yr. old granddaughter tried to spell her name, and we couldn't find a capital letter C. She likes the size of the letters, but we both were a little disappointed that there were so many mathematical symbols and not enough letters to spell all the words she wanted to spell. I would suggest buying 2 packs if you cannot find another type of set that has more letters.

Colorful Magnetic Letters . I like that the entire backing of the letters are magnetic. Ensures they stay put. I also like the bright colors and the easy to store container. Hope the product will be successful in teaching my son letters and words.

Very pleased! . Bought these for my 5 year old for Christmas. He (and his 7 year old sister) LOVE them. I like that there are at least 2 of every letter and three of the most used letters. They're great for letter identification, sound-symbol teaching and, of course, spelling. They're also fun to use to leave notes for him on his magnet board in the night to read in the morning. :) Glad I bought this!

My kids enjoy the letters . I have two toddler/preschoolers and they love magnets and letters and I needed something better than the cheap plastic ones that have small round magnets that fall out, easy to be swallowed. These fit the bill perfectly. They're good sized, and the magnet covers the whole back. The boys haven't managed to peel them off, either.
There is a large variety of letters and colors and I am pretty happy with them. The only real cons are that a few of the letters arrived squashed, or malformed, like they got caught in the machinery during cutting or packaging, and I wish it didn't contain the math symbols. My three year old has no real use for % or $ or @ and more a's for spelling with would be nice.

Learnimg tool. but leaks! . My 3rd graders loved these for practicing capacity conversion. Very durable, but they are not designed to hold water. They leak badly. The lids are not designed to hold water at all. You can use colored rice though.

great for homeschools and other schools . My son was having trouble remembering measurement equivalents. Posters, drawings, and measuring cups weren't enough. I discovered this set in a curriculum catalog and what caught my eye was that the set uses containers similar to what you'd find in real life such as the gallon jug and pint containers one typically buys milk in.

The set is made from study plastic, a little oily, but that'll wash off. (The set just arrived this afternoon.) Measurements are in US and Metric, and there are lots of them. Example: the gallon jug is marked in cups, pints, quarts, 1/2 gallon, gallon (the line is slightly below the top, just where milk would be filled to,) and oz.

Though I haven't used it yet, and when I do it'll be in a homeschool setting with only one child, the set seems durable enough for a regular school or preschool setting.

Definitely worth the money and I wish I'd found it sooner!

Best toy for teaching patterning . I was researching the preK-K educational toys in the teacher's college when I found this toy kit in the library. It was a great teaching tool for sequencing and patterning. The insect counters are life-like; the kit itself is simple to use and extremely durable.
However, since it is on the pricey side as a toy, I recommend users to purchase only the counters for teaching purpose. The basic idea is to show kids a pattern, and ask kids to continue the pattern with the insect counters.

Excellent but pricey . Sequencing and sorting are important skills for kids to practice, and this toy makes it fun. The bright colors and handy carrying case make it appealing and portable. What kid can resist multicolored critters?

If you have the money, this is a good tool. If you can't shell out that much dough or if you just think your head might explode when you realize that the little plastic pieces you paid so much for are scattered all over the house, you can recreate the concept for little or nothing with a bag of twelve bean soup. Learning Resources Let's Tackle Math Patterning and Sequencing Set Opinions
Good for very new learners . I really like this set as it does as advertised, teaches patterns and sequencing. It is really nice to use with more than one child. However, for the price I would have liked to see a larger variety of activities in the guide book. There could have easily been some simple addition/subtraction activities in the book as well as these types of activities naturally grow out of learning patterns and sequences. Of course we made our own simple problems, but I should not have needed to for the price we paid for this set. Also, once you take everything out of the tackle box is it really hard to get them all back in.
Overall, I would buy it again under the following conditions:
1. More than one child just starting to learn to recognize patterns
2. Readily being able to come up with adaptations for the activities in the book - once a toddler/preschooler does the card once or twice they really "have it" and don't need to keep doing the same exercise over and over again.

Educational and very fun for bug lovers . I got this as an educational toy, but my kids play with it even when we're not sequencing. This is one of the best purchases I've made. My 2-year-old and 4-year-old can sequence at different levels.

Flimsy. Not durable. Falling apart so not worth even half the price! . I am so disgusted and disappointed by this toy. Although the premise is fantastic.

Backstory...My toddler becomes bored with toys that are simplistic and shows greater capability for pattern making so I was SO EXCITED to find this toy. Expensive?! Who cares! I bought it without thinking twice. It is so hard to find toys for intelligent babies these days and especially little girls when all the market seems to want to push are 'happy ever after' disney princess toys that require no thought whatsoever to operate. So Kudos to Kaplan learning center! I applaud you for your efforts. But I have been frusterated by this toy and I feel the need to give you this honest review so here goes.

My little girl is the typical toddler, energetic and rough and tumble. I expected the plastic parts of this toy to last longer. They did not. Within a week of her playing with this and carrying it around everywhere and sequencing her little bugs endlessly the first part broke on us. It was the handle on the blue tray that can be positioned upwards, one of the little brackets that helps seat it inside the actual tray disappeared. This made the handle useless and because it only attached to one side of the tray. No biggie. I took it out and although operation of the toy was clumsy (my daughter could no longer carry the toy around with her) she could still open the box, put everything inside, take it out, put the tray in, take that out, count everything and of course sequence and pattern with the book.

Then within several more days the hinges on the box broke. So my daughter can no longer carry this toy around with her. The box is useless except for storage but with her refined motor skills still in development she is not able to positon the tray just right so that the box will close without unseating the lid again and becomes frusterated. I encourage toy clean up after play and indeede this is even part of our learning proces and play so that for a while she avoided the toy because she could not properly clean up after herself (and then feel proud and gain confidence).

The direct result has been that I have taken the case away. I put the the little bugs and frogs in a basket with the tray and a book. I mostly just hope that the toy will not break further. It is unfortunate that the toy has turned out to be so fragile. It cannot be stored like a tackle box or carried around as intended.

Kaplan, please keep in mind that when you create a toy for children it needs to be DURABLE. If any of the parts are too fragile to withstand play the toy will lose its appeal. If using a stronger plastic on the case and tray is not possible I recommend that the price for this toy be cut in half (or less) to reflect its fragility.

Great toy! . My 2 year old does colors and my 4 year old does sorting and sequencing. They love this game and ask to play it all the time...Motivational!

My son loves this toy! . This toy has brought tons of fun in the last few days. My three year old loves it! He loves the different bugs and finding them to match the sequences. It is a bit hard to fit everything back in the box. Also, the little worms are small and I have a little one in the house as well so I put them away. I wish there were more types of bugs, etc. instead of 4 different types of frogs and different worms. It would be nice if there were bees, ants, etc. Besides that, it is truly an entertaining and educational toy.

Great Visual Tool! . I use this when I am cooking with my daugther to help gain a concept of fractions and whole numbers. She is only 5 and I do not expect her to fully grasp the concept, but using this in conjunction with measuring cups and following a recipe I read out to her makes for a solid learning experience. It just adds to the fun of the activity, so it's a nice twist. I think something like this will be huge as she gets older and can visually appreciate the fractions and how they relate.

Good learning aid . I run an afterschool program for 4th/5th graders and many of them struggle with fractions. These do a nice job of providing a visual aid.

Great for teaching fractions decimals and percents! . I tutor math for grades K-12, but have noticed a major deficiency in most children's knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percents. I already own the Learning Resources Deluxe Fraction Tower, but I bought these to help youth who were struggling with converting fractions to percents or decimals. So far, it's been a hit! I love that they are built to teach all the aspects of the base ten number system, such as unit fractions (fractions that equal one). How 10% is the same as 1/10 and .1. The kids love that they are colorful and stick together like legos! In fact, my five year old son has a great time dumping all of these out of the package and trying to see what kinds of things he can build with them. This has given me some great opportunities to introduce fractions to him, without him knowing that he's learning. (A parent's dream!) I would highly recommend these for any setting: home, classroom, tutor, homeschool, etc.

Homechool Math . Purchased this kit for use with our Saxon Math lessons, much more convenient than trying to find the right size containers, being that in my kitchen I have minimal measuring tools, I like that the containers with lids all fit into each other providing for easy storage, the black labeling on these containers has so far not rubbed off or faded, if it does I will post another review.

these don't actually fold . These are plastic pieces that show how the shape would look if it was unfolded and flat. That is useful, but you can't actually fold them to make the shape. I didn't realize that when I bought them, and re-reading the description, I don't think it is very clear. The title should perhaps be changed from "Overhead Folding Geometric Shapes" to "Overhead Unfolded Geometric Shapes".

Great Teaching Tool . I already owned the folding geometric shapes and just received the overhead shapes as a gift. I am pleased with the quality of the product. Each piece is made of hard durable plastic/acrylic. The manufacturer made each piece color coordinated with the transparent icon (each on a square piece) so that the teacher can help students see the "net" and match it to the 3-D shape. The teacher can have students view the "unfolded" (net) shape and then select the 3-D prism or cylinder with which it corresponds. Each face is easy to identify. I wasn't sure if it would be necessary to have these since I already own the actual folding shapes Learning Resources Folding Geometric Shapes made by the same company, but the two products work so well together. Definitely worth the money!

Good for 5th Grade Preparation . At the beginning of the year, our daughter's 5th grade teacher said they would need to learn the states, capitals, and locations on a map. We found these cards on Amazon and let our daughter play with them.

There are two sets of cards:

SET 1: Front - Solid shape of a state with a star where the capital is, along with an arrow pointing to the state's location on the US map. Back - state name, abbreviation, and capital city.

SET 2: Front - State name, shape, star for the capital, and flag. Back - State name, abbreviation, capital, nickname(s), state bird, state flower, state tree, statehood date, fun fact.

These cards have been useful. The class is learning a region at a time (northeast, southeast, etc.) so our daughter pulls out the cards she wants to study with. Then we can quiz her on them before the test.

We also used them for a game once during a play date with 4 girls from different schools, all in the 5th grade. They teamed up and I showed them a state, and they had to name the capital. Each team got a sticker for getting it right, and if they got it wrong, the next team could "steal" it with the correct answer. Instead of focusing too much on wrong answers, we also tried making up ways to remember the capitals, such as MONTpelier, VerMONT, and TRENTON plays basketball and needs a NEW JERSEY.

There are also fact cards for the US territories and one for Washington, DC.
