Animal farm sounds . Our 3 month old daughter loves looking at this - the bright colors esp. Whenever she gets agitated, we show her this book, and she quitens down immediately! She in fact reaches out and flips the pages, though I'm pretty sure she isn't aware of what she is actually doing. All in all, a great buy. P.S. - the book doesnt have audio sounds, just pictures of animals and the sound they make.

No sounds . Purchased the book for my 10 month old grandson. Expected he would hear the animals' sounds, but there is no audio in this book. You have to be the one to make the sounds. As I'm far away, that I can't do. Very disappointed.

Huge Fan of Laurie Berkner Son can't get enough!! . Hello,

I just thought I would let all of you know a little more about this product. I bought the original and stumbled upon this one on the site and had to contact Amazon to find out what it was, just received it. It is a bit beat up but I will be contacting them. This is the complete plus system with the Laurie Berkner catridge, we are huge fans! This is not sold in stores, you can only purchase on Amazon. The songs included are Boots, Bottle Caps, I'm Gonna Catch you, Fruit Salad Salsa and Drive my car. I haven't given it to my son yet, as it is a Christmas present, but tested it out and he is sure to love!

An ABA teacher's dream . I am an ABA teacher and therapist for young children on the Autism Spectrum. I have had the original version of this toy for years (2 actually) and just purchased the newer version. While it is a little pricey on Amazon, it was imperative I get the Laurie Berkner Cartridge. This toy motivates my students more then anything else. I use it as a reinforcer and I have yet to meet a child that does not love this toy. The microphone is a great incentive to encourage speech from the children as well. A HUGE must for any ABA therapist or teacher. Worth every penny...

My little girl LOVES this toy!!! . I bought the Learn through Music Plus system with the Laurie Berkner cartridge from Toy's R Us for about 40 or 50 dollars a few months ago. It has a lighted touch screen and the cartridge is like a scroll. It goes through quite a few different pictures that play different songs for each one. It's really cute and a must have for your little music lover. I think this is the closest thing to a handheld video game for small children and they can learn from it. My daughter plays with it almost every day!! Every time we visit people and she brings it all the other kids huddle around her because they want to play with it. It's a really great toy!

Lovin' and learnin' thru music . My grandson who is 2 1/2 is definitely tuned in to music so when I saw this toy I thought it was a terrific way to learn. My son tells me that Ben loves it and plays it all the time. I'm sure he's learning also. I'll know better when I visit next.

Great for Preschoolers . This was a Christmas gift for my two year daughter. She loves the music and knows all the songs already. She can even spell "Boots" now. It's a little loud but I would definitely recommend it for toddlers.

Super fun educational toy! . This is the best toy I think I have ever purchased. My grandson began playing and singing with it the moment he opened it. He is so attached to it now that it is trouble when his toy is put away for bedtime or meals. He is 19 months old and loves every minute with his new favorite toy. His mom loves that it is so educational and keeps him occupied for hours while she does her own thing around the house. I highly recommend this toy to anyone with a toddler!

Great toy for kids ages 2-4 . My 21 month old daughter loves her new Learn Through Music Plus! She has just discovered the microphone and is having a blast singing into it and hearing herself. Right now she enjoys the songs the most, but I'm sure in a couple of months she will understand the "games" more. We purchased a few more cassettes and she really likes the Elmo Scavenger Hunt. I really like the Laurie Berkner cassette, although the songs are a bit short so hearing them over and over can get a little annoying. There is a volume control, but even the soft volume is a bit loud. Otherwise, it's a great toy. This toy was a big hit with my almost 4 year old nephew too! He played with it the whole time he was at my house.

great find . I couldn't believe that this was the same machine that sells for almost twice as much elsewhere. My daughters are HUGE Luarie B fans from watching Jack's Big Music Show.
My sister-in-law recommend the toy and when found this version I was thrilled.
Its a Xmas gift so they haven't played with it yet, but I anticipate hearing it every day.

Be aware lists as 6 months and up - package says 1yr and up. . Great manipulative toy. My nephew enjoys it. I was disappointed to see that Amazon has it listed as 6 months and up and the package says 1 year and up. Not a big deal, but it might matter to someone if they order it for a little one.

Colorful fun toy for learning how to use fingers and hands . I was not disappointed in this grasping toy from Melissa and Doug. Initially I was somewhat concerned about pinched fingers getting caught in joints or bands for hair to get caught in, but we have had no such issues. The dinosaur is very well constructed and there is little to no possibility of pinches. My daughter is easily able to twist and manipulate the individual segments and has remained amused by this toy over the past two months. There have been no issues with chipping paint or broken pieces (this is a toy that stays in her play pen so its survived quite a few tosses onto the hardwood floors).

Great safe toy at a great price . My son loves this toy. More so to chew on which makes me glad the paint is safe. We take it with us wherever we go and he doesn't seem to get bored of it. It's a low price, too. Bonus!

its ok . this toy is ok. bigger then i expected and the colors are not as bright (it actually is only painted on front/ back- not edges). it is solid construction and my child loves to chew on it. the problem is that his fingers get pinched in the bends all the time! i thought it was just him- being that he is 6 mos - but my niece is 13 mos and the same thing happens to her. i would say this toy is meant for preschoolers- definitely not babies!

Great toy! . My son loves this toy! Melissa and Doug toys are sturdy and easy to clean- always. My one year old son has had this toy for 3 months and has used it as a teether. Great Wooden Teether-- My Son Loves It! . Bought this for my 7-month old as he was constantly putting his hands in his mouth and I wanted something nice for his Easter basket. This dinosaur teether is perfect for grasping and A-OK for him to put in his mouth. I love how you can configure it in different ways and how it looks like a "big boy" toy. In fact, my 3yr old likes it, too! Another plus-- it's affordable as far as wooden toys go... Hooray!

Great grasping toy . We got this toy for my 5 month old and he loves it. It immediately caught his attention and he spends quite a long time twisting and turning. What is really neat is that his 10 year old brother (and 40-something father) also have spent time playing with it. The dinosaur is fun to pose and easy for an infant to work with. Looks like quite the keeper and we will be getting different versions for sure!

Simple toy . This is probably better for an older child. My son is 6 months and uses it as a teether right now, but gets bored since its only one texture. It will probably be better suited to him in a couple of months.

Better that the plastic letters... . I like this set because you get numbers and letters for a reasonable price considering the quality which is quite good...I would definitely choose these sets over the cheap plastic ones because the backs are a complete magnet which makes them hold on without drifting down...The colors are satisfactory, except the blue on the numbers is more like a purple...You may want to refrain from giving these to a child who is still put things in their mouth because the paper fronts will dissolve and come off...

He loves the 1s . We purchased this for our 2-year old son. He is learning to read and loves to count so I wanted to surround him with letters and numbers. I love that the magnets are the "sheet" magnets instead of the small magnets that I worry about being a choking hazard. The fact that they were Melissa & Doug was a selling point too - we've always been happy with their products.

Awesome Educational Magnets . The magnets have been great!! Our daughter loves them even though she is 13 months. I see her easily developing her number, letter, word, math and spelling skills with these magnets.

Breaks. Instantly. . I love that these are wood instead of plastic. We searched for wood ones and were so happy to find them. But they are NOT sturdy. The magnets come off pretty quickly, even with minimal play. We wrote a letter to the company, and they did replace them, but it was not a flaw with that one set. The new set did the same thing. One by one we have just had to throw them away. What a waste.

Favorite alphabet magnets! . I love these magnets! My daughter loved playing with them at my sister's house so we decided to get her alphabet magnets. She's still in the stages of putting things in her mouth so I feared the plastic letters with small magnets, the magnet covers the entire backing of the letters so she's safe if they enter her mouth. I didn't give them 5 stars because as great as they are my daughter has gotten them in her mouth and the paint/color wore off within a minute of me trying to get it out of her mouth.

Quality product . These letters and numbers sets are both quality wooden products. It's nice that the magnet covers the entire surface of the letter or number, which helps them stick better. The only thing I didn't think of when I bought these was that I'd need more letters. You might want to pick up some vowels. It's hard to spell multiple words without them.

Learning to spell . I bought this set to help my son with his spelling words for school and it is excellent for that.
You can do it on the fridge or a Magnetic board which is what we use. He can sounds out the words put the letters that he thinks spells the word and if not just move it instead of erasing. The Magnetic strip on it is great and the case that it comes with keeps them safe.
I did have to put the capital letters in another case because it was hard to close with all the letters together.

Great for the environment! . My 16 month old loves "spelling" and "counting" with these wooden letters and numbers. A wonderful educational toy that is thankfully not made of the godawful plastic that seems to be coating most of the toys in Toyland. SO nice to feel good about a toy. Highly recommend. Plus it was delivered faster than I expected.

Very great toys for children!!! . I bought the magnetic letters and the magnetic numbers for my 2 year old daughter and she loves them. they are very durable and made of great quality.... they are not a "dollar store" type material which is great when you have children that just love to bite, chew, bend and everything else to there small toys....great product and will order from them again!

Cute but My First series are better . I bought the ABC and counting versions of the Alex Toys flash cards for my daughter. I also bought touch and feel flashcards from another brand: the "My First Touch & Feel Picture Cards: Colors and Shapes". The Alex Toys cards are nice but the touch and feels are not really all that great -- some are just a smooth shinny surface and the pictures could be better. They have the upper and lower case letter on the ABC cards which is nice. The my first version cards are just a cut above. For starters, they're beautiful. They have suggested questions to ask your little one on the back and ideas for helping them learn the color or shape. They also have the color listed in four different languages on the back with correct way to pronounce them. I was thrilled the with My First series and while I will use the Alex Toys cards, I have to say I will buy the My First cards from now on.

Not for Teaching Numbers . I didn't like these cards because they were double sided but only had textured patches on one side, which means half of the numbers have nothing. I also didn't like that there was only one patch to feel instead of the number featured on the card. If the card says 5, there should be 5 patches to count. I was not impressed.

decent and cute. . my son hasn't really shown any real interest in this toy. i think he might be too young for it (21mos). with that said they are well made cards. he likes pulling them out and making a mess with them (we have the ABC set too). i would purchase again. I DO like they have things to ask your kids on the back of the cards.

Great Flashcards . We just got these cards few days ago, and my two-year old son was quite excited to use them. He has the ALEX abc cards, and he loves those. He is speech-delayed, and he will try to say the words after me. These cards are the most durable, and each one has a textured patch. The colors are also very fun and bright. The box is very study, and re-closes with velcro.

Great toy for kids (not babies ) and adults . i purchased a nano after i got the hexbug spider as a gift i have purchased 3 more hexbug bugs(all different species (ant,original, spider, nano) i have one nano to which is great entertainment and fun to watch it interacts acts like a real bug and is fun with cats
i have the black and yellow one i hope to get a glow in the dark one and many more and get a whole hive going as they act and interact (not with sensors) but randomly but it gives the look of a real insect hive.
these have no moving parts outside and drive around via a vibration of the central part of the body. they can flip over if they get turned upside-down and change direction if bumped.it fell from a few feet up and works fine with no damage so well built and quit durable but water is a definite no. it would fry the little bug so keep in dry area

Math Error . I love the quality of this toy, except for one thing. The block that flips over from displaying the number "5" to having 5 dots on the reverse actually has 4 dots! Rather than ship it back, I'm going to use a perm marker to add in a 5th dot in the middle but this potentially great product would really benefit from an increase in quality control during production.

I Pick Them Up and Put Them Down . My 20 month old granddaughter is fascinated by these elephants. There are ten elephants, five large and five small. They have colors of different hues and are very cute. You can link the tails to the trunk and form a line or circle. It is a great novelty to learn how to count and to learn colors.

But, what my granddaughter really loves is the big gallon container the elephants come in. The top has a handle, so it is easy for a little girl to carry. She loves to open the top, empty the elephants out, then put the elephants back in and put the top back on. She lifts up the handle and carries the container from room to room. She learned how to connect the elephants very easily and stops to connect and disconnect on her trips from room to room. What I am reminded of is the commercial for the work out gym, where the hulk is being interviewed and when asked what he does, he says "I lift things up and put them down". My granddaughter has him beat, she doesn't need to say it, she shows us!

There was a slight odor when the container was opened, so I washed the elephants, the container and the lid. All is sweet and ready for the girl. This is a gift for a child who loves to discover and innovate for herself. She makes the toy hers.

great travel toy . I bought my twin sons this puzzle/peg toy for their 2nd birthday. They have loved this toy from the start. It is very colorful and that initially attracted them to it. Then they enjoyed putting pegs in the different holes. At first it was random, now at almost 3 years old, they like to sort by colors (orange pegs in the orange piece)and see how high the pegs can stack. They also love to count the pegs in each piece. The entire toy is very durable and if you lose a piece, Lauri will replace the part for a nominal charge. I love all of Lauri's toys and we bought the peg board and additional pegs. The primer pak is also a fun kit to take on the road. We take these toys to church, restaurants, and they are a great distraction when I have to make phone calls. They are quiet toys and they require no batteries.

What a great toy! . I bought this toy for my two year old, and he loves it. It keeps him busy for long periods of time, and gives him his own math to do. I lay out the numbers in order and count for him, and then let him go from there. He is learning about what the numbers look like and what they mean, and having fun while he's at it. He has learned to count to five, and has a total blast playing with this toy. The chunky shapes are perfect for little hands. Not only that, he is learning about colors and how to stack. Even my five year old plays with it. Highly recommended.

Disappointing and Overpriced . My 20 month old quickly tired of this product that in retrospect was advertised misleadingly. Consisting of only numbers 1-5 with colored pegs that insert into each corresponding number appeared overly-simple for the age range specified. Making matters worse, it was hugely overpriced as compared to the Little Leap (Leap Frog) toy I purchased along with this.

Great Fun Educational Toy!!! . My daughter (now 3 yrs old) has been playing with this toy for over a year and still LOVES IT!!!. This toy is very fun, educational, and durable. It is brightly colored with many educational and fun activities. You can use it is a train puzzle or number puzzle, each train section has a number and enough peg holes to match that number, you can count the pegs to match the numbers in that part of the train, you can match peg colors to the train colors, pegs also stack up. I can not say enough about great things about this toy!

solid--in every sense of the word . This is a super well-constructed toy, simple and straightforward. My son really likes it. Before he was ready to put the shapes in their individual holes, he would just dump them out and put them back in the top. His hand fits fine into the top hole. It's a little weighty, but that's not a bad thing, especially since recent studies have shown that kids who play with weighted toys have better muscle tone. I'm knocking off a star because, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the vertical slots are trickier to use than the slanted ones.

waste of good wood . I "played" with this at a specialty toy store and was pretty disappointed with it. I thought I wanted this for my son after seeing it online but I'm so glad we got to try it at a store first. My toddler showed almost no interest in it. It looked hard to use and not at all fun. However, it looked like it was well made of good wood and with good stains/paint and finishes.

We've had more fun with a plastic food container that I cut a square shape on the lid and my son fills it up with his wooden ABC blocks. BTW, you can do the same using matchbox cars, Peek-A-Blocks, etc. Just use a different plastic food container (yogurt, sour cream, powdered drinks, etc.) for each shape.

Cons Review

difficult to use . I am not too happy with this item. It has a handle, yet is heavy enough to hurt if a toddler drops it on their foot. It is difficult to reach inside to get the shapes out. And the vertical placement of the holes is difficult to use. Other than that, it is attractive looking and constructed well.
