Giggles More Giggles! . My first-grader and his friend took this set down to the basement, turned out all lights and just watched the nanos. The giggles from two little boys were music to my ears! Since then my son had built and re-built the habitat using pieces from regular sets.

Kids still love this . We've had this for several months now, and my kids still love it. They have a few other hexbug sets, but really wanted this glow-in-the-dark one, so they saved up their $$. Once they played with this one for a while, their next purchase what some glow in the dark paint from the craft store to use on their other sets. :

Great toy for all ages! . Bought this for my 10 year old son. My other younger kids love it as well, and even I like playing with it. Crazy fun and so cute!!

Kids Love the Set . My youngest loves to watch the bugs bounce off the walls and run around the track. She also has some glow in the dark bugs and we have to turn the lights to get the full effect. The white looking part of the track does glow in the dark as stated.

Fun kids love it but inconvenient batteries . Our kids got this for Christmas and really love it (kids are 3, 4 and 6). They builts many layouts and races the bugs around. The fun stopped when after the first day or two the bugs were all dead. They take a button cell battery which can't be recharged - and thus it costs about $10 every time they get the set out. I wish it took AAA's or something that I didn't just have to buy and discard, and they could have made this with an internal timer to shut down the bugs after an hour so the batteries don't run all night and expire. Maybe it wouldn't be such a problem if you have fewer kids and less noise, but we just don't hear the bugs and they inevitably get left on somewhere...Really fun toy, but loses big time with the battery choice.

Hexbug playground . If you own any hexbugs you are aware that these little critters can take off and get caught under places that make it hard to retrieve. The habitat set provides a playground that helps them move around and turn in different directions. My son enjoys playing with it. I'm not sure he will be playing with it in 6 months. Right now it gets about 10 minutes of attention once a week.

Hours of fun for my 9 year old! . My son and his friends were playing with these for hours. Even my older two children came in to watch the "races". They all had a great time!

exciting . Grandkids love this....don't know how long the fascination will last but it's exciting now. The 2 year old is terrified of the bugs and it's only a matter of time until he decides to 'kill' them.

Excellent Learning Tool and Durable . My 3 year old loves puzzles but is still learning his letters and numbers so this was the perfect present for him. It's durable although the container it comes in got stepped on and cracked (it's plexiglass-like material). All pieces are wood and there has been no chipping or peeling of any kind so far with moderately rough use (he's three after all). There is a nice variety of words and pictures as well as high quality graphics on the wooden cards. The wooden letters and numbers are also withstanding well. Honestly, he loves playing with it and so does his 6 year old brother and is learning a lot from it. I would highly recommend this as a fun, but educational, toy.

Ocean animals . I absolutely love this table mat! My 1 and 2 year old kids are very engaged with finding out the names of all the animals. They can also color the reverse side while they wait for their snack. It's very durable and makes clean-up easy.

Aesthetically appealing but poor construction . This is a nice looking and scientifically viable celestial globe however the plastic construction is cheap. The top and bottom of the globe is slightly askew as well. The person who put it together seemed to have rushed it. The lighting feature that illuminates the globe is a neat concept and works good enough. If this cost half the price I would say it is a decent deal but for almost $80 after shipping I would recommend trying to find one on ebay for much less or an alternative globe.

astronomical and mythic. . The globe is about a 1/8 thick (!) layer of plastic, rather than cardboard. I had thought that the light in question would shine through the stars, however the globe is solid, with no holes. There are however two layers to the plastic, the outer one shows the astronomical designations and constellations, including the milky way. The inner layer is painted with classically styled pictures of the creatures/people of the constellations. When the light is off it is a smooth blue star globe, with just the astronomical markings. When the light is lit, the inner pictures shine through and overlay, showing the more mythical interpretations of the constellations.

The globe is very solid and seems sturdy, the bracketing frame is simple plastic and may not hold up as well. The globe does turn, but somewhat stiffly.

I'm bit disappointed that the light doesn't shine out of the stars, I'm considering drilling out the holes for the stars, so we can use it as a constellation projector too.

Wish It Was More Durable . I think having a placemat at the table is a great learning tool. Just think how many times a day and for how long your child will be looking at this placemat, sometimes 3 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. My son plays with his placemat when it isn't mealtime. I purchased the special crayons but I didn't know that you can also use pencils on it too.
The only problem I have with the placemat is that the pictures wear off. I was surprised though that it was as thick of a plastic as it was. I would buy this again.

Fun practical and educational . I had this placemat and the numbers version on my sons' wish list for Christmas. I'm so glad that someone chose this for them. They immediately had fun counting the numbers and saying the alphabet. Now they dont want any other placemats! I just ordered the fire truck and dinosaurs to add to the collection. One of my boys is enjoying the coloring, the other... not so much, but maybe will take to it over time. The coloring is a nice option to distract and extend our dinner time at the table or to keep them occupied a few extra minutes until dinner is ready.

For adults too . Ok, so I (male adult, 40+) bought this Geomag set with the idea to play with it one or two evenings, and give to my nephew. No way that is going to happen. I have to buy a new set for m nephew, and I am tempted to buy a second set for myself along with it. This is so much fun to experiment with. the set arrived yesterday, and I have played with it just one evening. Like anyone else, you start with a tetrahedron, then built other Platonic solids such as an icosahedron, to end up with a buckyball. It is wonderful to experience a feeble structure snap together in a stiff structure with a beautiful geometric structure. You can do much more than building such well-known structures. Simple geometric shapes I didn't know even existed emerge naturally. I just wish this would have existed when I was a kid. My advise: don't buy a small set, you inevitably end up upgrading. To give you an idea: this largest set with 120 magnet bars is just enough to build a Buckyball (90 edges) and an icosahedron (30 edges). have fun!

Great creative toy . I gave this to my two grandsons as a birthday gift recently. They are three and five years old. They both love to create and build, so their mother suggested this toy, as they are always playing with a set like this at their pre-school when she picks them up. I am ordering panels to go along with the set for Christmas. I would highly recommend buying as large a set as possible, as they sometimes want to admire their creation for awhile as they create something else. Also, a larger set is better when two children are using it at the same time.

Geomag Kids 216 Pcs . It's a great educational toy, to help kids understand magnetism but also have a lot of fun creating new figures with it. The limit is your imagination!!

Great toy for my kid . This was an excellent toy choice for my 6 y.o. son. He often spends over an hour building structures with this. To put this in perspective even the most flashy of entertainment loses his interest after 30 minutes. I've also discovered that this is an effective way to help my son relax before before sleep at night. After 30 minutes of building with this set he seems much more ready to sleep.

Product quality and durability, a concern with a boy, is great.

This is a fun toy and I often build alongside my son. There are enough parts for two to create separately or collaborate. Honestly this is so much fun that I've been known to wait until my son goes to sleep then continue my building. When I'm outed for doing this I use my right as a dad to respond "Hey, who said life was fair."

Great fun! . I purchased this item for my 5 year old grandson for Christmas. He is intrigued with magnets and loved the ability to create things using his imagination. A permanent storage container would be an excellent addition to this set.

addictive . This product was purchased for an adult as a whimsical Christmas gift. I decided on Geomag instead of Magnetix because of the many reviews which indicated that Geomag made a better quality product. The kit I received has 3 colors: Dark Blue, Green, and Metallic Aqua. The colored bars are packaged in multiples of 12 or 24 in styrofoam flat containers each with a complement of steel balls. Each bar is 58mm (2.25"). The product is well made.
The magnets are very strong.
The parts look good and feel good to the touch.
The $50 price for the 216-pc kit was very good compared to other kits.The product comes with a color instruction sheet and gives you some examples of what you can build. It's engaging and it makes you focus. It's a toy but also a teaching tool. I think those children who can sit down and play quietly would love this product. For those who can't, it could be an interesting experiment. We devised a game in which we build something sturdy and then start to remove pieces one-by-one until the integrity is compromised (think Jenga). I agree with other reviewers that the product is addictive and I wish I had more pieces even though 216 is quite a few.

Adding on . I got a set of Geomags and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, when you get good, you discover that you need more and more parts. This is a good add-on of balls and bars. It doesn't have the plastic squares and triangles, which I got in a different set.

Great toy for everyone. . I could not decide between Magnetix or GeoMag but based on reviews I went with GeoMag and I am glad I did. Great quality product and the kids love it, but I would recommend buying more sets because you quickly run out even with 216 pieces as I just learned.

A great gift . I got this as a gift for my twins on their fourth birthday. Its been six months and they still play with this (though not as much obviously). Its fun to see them working on designs. The only problem is that four year olds are not good at putting things away, so we have small silver balls and green magnet bars scattered around the house quite a bit!

Great placemat for working on numbers. . My 6-year-old loves this placemat. He knows his numbers 1-100 pretty well, but still likes to work on them, and he is very curious about the thousands, millions, etc. so he really likes this. The colors are wonderful - something I enjoy seeing on the table. One side is for practicing writing the numbers with watercolor markers - he loves writing the numbers and having me time him. He will look at the number chart while he is eating and think about the numbers. It's great. I give it another week before it starts to get "old" (he sees it at least 3 times a day)then I will put it in the rotation with other placemats so he does not completely lose interest. Not a fault of this placemat, of course, just human nature. I expect he will enjoy this placemat for at least another year with varying use.

Actually a really good microscope! . I had ordered a different scope a few years ago but you couldn't see a thing with it. This one actually is really good! It comes with prepared slides and you can make your own slides as well. I was impressed having experience with a "real" microscope, this is actually almost as durable and heavy. Watch out for the sharps that come with it though... I would be sure to supervise your child with it for maximal safety, fun and results!

CONSTRUCTION

The microscope is made of hard plastic with a carrying handle and microscope cover. No lens cover was a small minus. The slides are secured by two clips that swivel but no staging to adjust the slide's position on the platform. Large yellow knobs are easy to adjust. There are 3 settings 4X, 10X and 40X with the 10X eyepiece. There are two light settings: above and below the slide's stage. This operates with 3 AAA batteries.

USE

Just switch the lamp on and adjust your focus. There are a lot of accessories that accompany this microscope. It is easy to use and the light is actually quite bright. The image quality is excellent and the knobs make any youngster a more well prepared scientist.

OVERALL

My daughter and I had a great time looking at various items from the 4 accompanying prepared slides (Paramecium, Lining of the oral mucosa, NaCl crystals, Pollen, and the various slides that we created ourselves). For a better experience, I do recommend getting more teaching slides, as well as more new slides/cover slips.

Highly recommend this item. You will pay a little more but it's worth it.

Thames and Kosmos Biology Tk2 Scope Opinions
Fantastic real microscope . I was looking around for a microscope for my daughter to use for her science project which involved investigating micro-organisms collected in various water habitats. I tried three different microscopes, and this one was by far the best. The other two microscopes she tried left much to be desired, especially in regard to the quality of the microscope itself. They were truly toys compared to this microscope. I highly recommend this microscope! The illumination of slides/samples is perfect, and reminded me of the microscopes I used in biology lab in college. It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth the expense.

Nicely made works wonderfully! . This is my first time purchasing a microscope. I would put this in a catergory between toy and student microscope, which was perfect for my situation (nine year old). The bright colors seem to make it more toy like, but the quality is top notch and viewing slides is incredible. It is well made and seems to be durable. The two different led lights are much better than the mirror illumination. Super that you can choose which one to turn on- some models I looked at did not have this feature for some reason. The book that comes with it is a little lacking (especially when you don't know exactly how the eye piece and lenses go together- which I did not...and this was after my son removed it of course) but I am really happy with this purchase. Also, you may want to purchase additional prepared slides if you are just starting out, only comes with five. Great educational 'toy' for those parents who are sick of video games and the like. We have had lots of fun already! Reccomended.

durable does a great job! . This is a very descent microscope and does a good job. Construction is fairly sturdy and the built-in lights do a much better job than other mirror type/reflection illumination microscopes.

By far the best pre-university microscope . This is an affordable but functional microscope to thrill enquiring minds. If you buy cheaper you'll get garbage that would put anyone off microscopy for life. But this scope is astonishingly well made and robust. I can easily see water bears, protists and friends. Yet you're not paying for fancy features that only college kids would want - or be able - to use.
A bonus is tremendous customer service from the manufacturer. Two years after I bought my microscope I lost the ocular lens in a house move. When I wrote to Thames and Kosmos asking if replacements were available they sent me new one for free! Wow!

Very good product starter microscope. . This is a good starter microscope for my 8 yr old. It is better than a basic microscope and not too complicated to use. The slides provided enable us to analyze everything from a drop of water to a piece of grass. Also the magnification options are outstanding for a home microscope.

Great deal for the money . I am a recreation therapist on a children's unit and we have had a great time with this microscope. The only problem we had was with the lack of instructions that came with it and properly adjusting the eye piece. Overall, this is a great buy.

Not a toy! . The quality of this microscope is very high. This is considered by Amazon as a toy, but it isn't a toy. It is a great quality entry level microscope. I highly recommend it. Bear this in mind when you buy it - that is is not junky and cheap. If you want a throw away junky toy, don't get this one! it comes with all the slides and coverslips you'll need to quite a bit of learning.

Your child will enjoy this item! . My 4 yr. old grandson began displaying a huge interest in outer space this year, particularly the moon. I bought this telescope and planets book to provide him with basic knowledge, and a "hands on" view of the stars and moon. He looks forward to taking the telescope outside when the sky is clear and the moon and stars are visible. He's beginning to memorize and call out the planets, and I'm delighted that I made this investment in him. This product was simple to assemble and use. It's not sophisticated, but that's not what I was looking for. It's a great product for youngsters under age 8.

Disappointment . We have tried to use this telescope many times. The lack of a view finder makes it really difficult. It also is hard to get the lenses to stay in the right alignment or get the right focal length. It works fine for daytime outdoor viewing of distant trees, but it is really disappointing and frustrating at night.
