Fun and Educational! . The Primary Science Mix & Measure Kit is full of five cups, three measuring spoons, a bowl with lid, a scale and ten activity cards. The first thing I did was set up all the items on the bathroom counter (luckily we have the room) and let my boys play on their own. I wanted them to be comfortable using the cups and seeing how much water goes in them. They had so much fun doing this and it was actually nice for them not to use my measuring cups! The cups and spoons in this set are also very kid-friendly and easy to hold. I am thinking too these will be fun when we can outside and not worry about messes!So now your probably thinking, "Okay they are playing with measuring cups, now what?" Well the set includes ten activity cards that give parents all sorts of ideas to get kids thinking, learning and having fun! The cards have activities such as having kids fill them up to see how two containers of different shapes can hold the same amount, how a whole can be made, and understanding the weight of different objects. My favorite though is the recipe cards as I am so not crafty! There are cards for Mystery Goo, Bubbles, Puffy Paint, Trail Mix, Three-Day Clay and Slime Stencils!Overall, this set includes not only the tools you need but also the ideas for activities. I do wish though the scale that it included had numbers on it instead of colors, so it was more like a real scale. The cups though are all high quality plastic and definitely standing up to the roughness my boys have been putting them through.

Good but a few flaws . I bought this for my 5 year old for Christmas. She loves it and plays with it all the time. I see 2 flaws. The bell that comes with it does not have a holder in the carrying case nor does it fit into the little pouch in the case. Also the clock only has 1 hand! That does not help.
I had a chance to compare the ALEX set with the Learning Resources pretend school set and noticed that the LR set does not have these same problems and the LR set includes both a world map and a US map.

fun to pretend . My daughter age 5 loves her teacher set. I like that all the pieces (except the bell) have a storage space in the carrying case. My only concern is that many of the forms (attendance, report cards, etc)can be used only once. I plan on contacting Alex toys to see if you can buy refills.

Great Toy for those Future Teachers! . My daughter loves playing school, so I thought this would be the perfect gift for my soon-to-be 7-year old. It's really cute. It has all the essentials a teacher needs to teach his/her classroom. It stores easily too... everything fits nicely in a carry case, which does not take up a lot of room. The only thing is what to do when all the papers and stickers run out? I'm an educator myself, and I know I can be creative to refill the items. But not everyone has that luxury. There needs to be refills to purchase.

Fun for your little teacher . This was the one thing our daughter asked Santa for after seeing it in an ad. My daughter says "It is lots of fun. I like the activity cards, the little bell, and the dry erase board." I would say this toy is a big success, especially if your kid likes to write on little papers!

Great illustrations and fun for toddlers . I got this for my son and husband. My husband wants to learn Spanish, so I thought this was a neat way to educate him and our 1 year old. The illustrations are simple and beautiful and we can easily flip through each flash card like a simple story book. My only complaint is that these aren't plastic coated. While my son enjoys 'reading' the flashcards with us he is still of an age where he puts things in his mouth. These are cardboard and don't hold up so well to toddler chewing.

vaction fun . bought this item or a vacation we went on this summer for my 8 yr.old dd.It contained more items than i thought and my 3 yr old liked playing with it also.Now that we are home from vacation they like it even more,they love to pretend to be on vacation and use the binoculars maps,post cards and more all the time now.great fun for play time!!

Great Math Manipulatives for Preschool and Kindergarten . I've started a collection of math manipulatives to help my children with our math for homeschooling. I had a set of these bugs from discovery toys. That is a great set because it is a smaller amount of bugs with pattern cards (great for preschool and kindergarten). But, if you bought just the bugs (I found these at a garage sale yesterday), it would be very easy to replicate those activities simply by helping children count using the bugs and create patterns. I am very glad to have extra bugs now!

For Preschool, I use the book Developing Number Concepts by Kathy Richardson: Bk 1. I love that book and these bugs would be really fun for kids to use for those activities! Kathy Richardson does a wonderful job explaining what young children need to learn to develop their number sense--it's the best book I've found around. The activities are very simple and quick.

These are GREAT!! . My son loves these bugs. They are educational when used for counting, sorting, and color recognition. i orginally purchased the discovery toys bug game and we lost all the catepillars. so when i saw these, i thought perfect, more bugs with plenty of catepillars. they are durable and fun to play with. we even put them on the trampoline and hit with our hands to watch them bounce. great sensory activity!!!

Backyard Bugs are great fun and educational . I purchased these to use in my preschool classroom. The kids LOVE them!!!
These bugs are fun just to explore, but they also provide a great way to teach sorting and patterning. There are five colors of bugs, so you can sort them just by color. Then, when the children are a little older, you can show them that - even though they're the same color - they aren't exactly the same. (Within each color group there are 2 each of every bug.) There's also an opportunity to teach the difference between "bugs" and spiders, as well as introducing the idea of metomorphosis (the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly).
The only downside I've found to these little critters is that they're made of a soft rubber. While the texture is cool for the kids, it also makes it very easy to pull off legs and antennae.

Sorting for boys or those interested in bugs . This is a nice little tub of sorters and counters. Learning Resources always makes good quality toys.

Great toy for fun and pre-math skills . I bought these for my 3 year old daughter and she absolutely loves them. They seem durable and are well made. There are so many ways to use them - sorting by color or bug type, counting, even doing patterns. The tub even comes with a little bit of info about each bug, so you can start teaching facts about the insects. Great buy!

A toy not to be missed in a child's playroom . Our four year old son is captured by this toy. There are so many ways to play with it - sorting by bug type or color; making soup according to "bug" ingredients, naming colors and bugs, counting ... it is amazing how much fun he gets out of it while playfully developing all the skills that are important for this age. Also, it is a great toy to play alone or with others. A must have!

Great Product . We love these bugs. I got them for my oldest two children we homeschool so when it came time to start the younger ones in preschool we got them again. They love them! Ages are 2,3 and 4. We don't have them out to play with, we just get them out for "school" so they think they are really special and don't realize they are learning with them. My older children play the bug soup game with them!

Bugtastic . We bought these bugs for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. We hid them all around our yard and the kids had a lot of fun searching for them. They kept them though as it is too young an age for them to give back anything. I think we will do that activity again for her 5th party and order more of these yard bugs.

I Pick Them Up and Put Them Down . My 20 month old granddaughter is fascinated by these elephants. There are ten elephants, five large and five small. They have colors of different hues and are very cute. You can link the tails to the trunk and form a line or circle. It is a great novelty to learn how to count and to learn colors.

But, what my granddaughter really loves is the big gallon container the elephants come in. The top has a handle, so it is easy for a little girl to carry. She loves to open the top, empty the elephants out, then put the elephants back in and put the top back on. She lifts up the handle and carries the container from room to room. She learned how to connect the elephants very easily and stops to connect and disconnect on her trips from room to room. What I am reminded of is the commercial for the work out gym, where the hulk is being interviewed and when asked what he does, he says "I lift things up and put them down". My granddaughter has him beat, she doesn't need to say it, she shows us!

There was a slight odor when the container was opened, so I washed the elephants, the container and the lid. All is sweet and ready for the girl. This is a gift for a child who loves to discover and innovate for herself. She makes the toy hers.

Cute learning toy . I bought this toy for my 5-year-old. If she played with it more, I would give it more stars. It teaches dexterity with "sewing" the pieces on as well as teaching them to line up the holes properly. It is wooden, so it is pretty durable. Mostly, she likes that she can "hand sew" like me and her big sister. I always wanted one when my oldest was younger, but Amazon had it at an incredible price, so now we have it in our house! The only downside is that the case it comes in requires the bear to be stripped down to her panties again and the pieces must be arranged specifically. Also, the plastic lid is very cheap and will not hold the pieces in place if it's knocked over.

Good but could use a little tweeking . I am a retired teacher and bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter. It is cute and durable. She liked it but needed a lot of help. The "thread" is long and thick, so it gets stuck when lacing. I'm going to buy a thinner, shorter lacing string which I think will work better. It would also be nice if it came with two bears so the one bear wouldn't need to be undressed all the time. Two bears would also give her the added option of imaginative play--kind of like paper dolls.

best toy for toddlers ! . Sewing cards have always been a great simple toy for toddlers to have fun and practice how to use their hands to do a job....... but to combine that concept with the paper doll concept at the same time is awesome. I love that they are actually sewing the clothes on the dolls ! And to make them wooden and there fore durable was brilliant. I great basic learning toy for kids. I love this product!

My girls love it - too bad about the packaging . My girls do love this (they are 3 and 5). It's not always obvious how to get all the accessories on there without crisscrossing everywhere and ending up with a lace sticking out the front, but they just take it apart and try again.

Why didn't they include a real over though? It comes in a nice sturdy box, but no cover so it's impossible for me to store it anywhere (just sitting on a shelf does not work at my house). So I can transfer the contents to a plastic container, but then I waste the sturdy box it came in. Or I get a container that is big enough for the box, but that seems silly. They really took a regretful shortcut on this one.

amazing educational flashcards! . I use these for my son who is 2. He loves them... he signs the letter then he signs all the pictures on each of the flashcards. This are great way to introduce new signs (which you can only do if you know sign language or look up the signs) These are amazing, just wish they were a little cheaper.

my kids love them! . we've been teaching our son sign language since he was a baby - and even though he can speak now, we still try to teach him the letters and numbers and some words.

these cards are amazing. they are thick, durable, easy to read - and seeing my son's little hands try to mimic the letter signs, well, it is just adorable. it is not his first time with letter signs, but, it helps me get them right, which enforces the correct form for each one.

the back of the card has the letter written in cap and lower case with an object or animal that starts with that letter. some of them objects are kind of weird (like, where we would call an airplane, well, and airplane, they call it a "jet" for the letter j. that confuses him). but, most of them are logical for us and easy for him to say and use.

i would recommend them to anyone!

we like it . we got this set a couple years ago and it's just getting a lot of use now. between two babies, both who chew ans drool all over the cards, the cards hold up well.
the babies enjoy them. they are good for holding. thry make fun squeaky noises.
i'm ok with the more adult words on them. it gets me thinking for other words for each card.
we like them. the babies are fascinated by them.

Not helpful unless your kid can read! :( . I am very disappointed with these flash cards because so many of the items pictured to represent the letters are things that kids - or even adults for some of them - would not know without reading the label. Kids' love them but not well made . My students love using these numbers to help them remember the numbers, the sandpaper was coming off the cards the moment I took the cards out of the box! They are easily put back into place at least.

These Cards are helping me reach a goal with my preschooler . My goal for this summer is to teach my 4 year old son the alphabet and so far so good - - just after a few sessions with him, he is recognizing the letters, matching them up to the objects, and having a great time. He has just begun to get into board games and he views these cards the same way. It is a great quality time project for us and I really think they will help him learn. My biggest challenge is keeping them away from my 2 year old so the pieces won't get bent or lost!

My only complaint is they don't stay together really well once you take them apart. But we just line them up on the floor or a table and it is not a big deal.

Not made well enough . In theory, these are great cards. And for the first hour that my little boy used them, they were great. But after the first hour, the cardboard started to give along the points where the pieces join. So, every time my little boy tried to pick one up to show us how well he'd done, the piece would fall out. He became extremely frustrated because he wanted the cards to stay whole, and the pieces simply wouldn't do so. Which caused him to not want to play with the cards, and so made them useless as a learning tool. He had been so excited initially. To see him in tears because the cards wouldn't stay joined was just heartbreaking. I do see that there are wooden ones available through another manufacturer and am going to give those a try. Maybe the wood will stay in shape easier than the cardboard did.

These are great . My daughter loves these. They are a great way for a preschooler to learn the alphabet!
