Terrific Toy for Kids or Grown-Ups . The kid in me couldn't resist buying the orange Hexbug Spider, and I'm glad I picked one up. It would be a practical purchase for kids 8 years and up, although I already purchased a few for adults.What makes this particular Hexbug different from the others is that it's the only one with a remote control [Edit: just discovered the Inchworm is the only other one with a remote]. The other Hexbugs, such as the crabs, simply move automatically. The remote control has two buttons that allow you to rotate the spider's head 360 degrees, and make the spider walk in whichever direction it's facing. An LED light at the top of the spider's head lights up whenever you rotate it.The spider itself and the remote come with an A/B switch. This allows you to set the spider to an "A" frequency, and the remote to an "A" frequency. By doing this, you can operate a second spider in the same room by setting it to the "B" setting (otherwise you have two spiders reacting to one remote). I have to stay within a few feet of the spider, otherwise it won't pick up the signal from the remote.It walks best on flat, hard surfaces, although I have been able to navigate the spider on carpet that isn't too deep. The "legs" aren't particularly strong, though, so don't expect the spider to be able to scale small objects easily.I love the Hexbug Spider because it makes a great conversation piece, and I have plenty of fun playing with it on my desk. It would make a great holiday gift for kids, or the young at heart.

The only spider I like . This is a great robotic toy. The remote is easy enough for a toddler to use. Learning to walk and move this robotic item is fun.

Present for Grandson . My grandson loved this remote control Hexbug and all the things it could do. Excellent product works and looks just as pictured.

Great toy for kids (not babies ) and adults . i purchased a nano after i got the hexbug spider as a gift i have purchased 3 more hexbug bugs(all different species (ant,original, spider, nano) i have one nano to which is great entertainment and fun to watch it interacts acts like a real bug and is fun with cats
i have the black and yellow one i hope to get a glow in the dark one and many more and get a whole hive going as they act and interact (not with sensors) but randomly but it gives the look of a real insect hive.
these have no moving parts outside and drive around via a vibration of the central part of the body. they can flip over if they get turned upside-down and change direction if bumped.it fell from a few feet up and works fine with no damage so well built and quit durable but water is a definite no. it would fry the little bug so keep in dry area

hexbug from Amazon . The hexbug was in original package, but when we got it out to play with it, it wouldn't work. The batteries were in place and it did not seem to be broken, but nothing made it work. Daughter in law took it home to see if new batteries would make it work. Don't think she has tried it yet so don't know if it worked.

Super Spiral Fun . My Son (age 6)loves hexbugs, and was very excited about the idea of making a two story structure. He wanted this set so much that he saved up his allowance for it. I am pleased to report that it is great fun, and he is already saving up for another set. We attached it to the Battle bridge set and nano habitat set, and created a huge set. The bugs can go up and down the ramp the way we set it up. Very cool, and very fun to watch!

Fun for a long time . My 8 year old son loves this toy! He can play with it for hours and not get bored. The pieces are movable, so he can create his own shape with it and sometimes adds other items to the "maze" from around his bedroom. You can also purchase other elements to connect to this one. It is really fun watching the little hexbugs running around and trying to get them to go the way you want. Compared to a lot of other toys that my son has asked for, this one is reasonably priced and entertaining for a long time. He has had it for two months and goes back to it at least two or three times a week. We have not had to replace the batteries on the original bugs, yet, although they are starting to get a little slower.

Very entertaining . My 9 year old used her own money and isn't disappointed. You can use your imagination and move the track around and change the path of the bug.

A bit mesmerizing . I bought this for my 9-year-old nephew for his birthday. My mother bought him a larger set, so my intention was for this starter pack to compliment the larger one. Nephew loved the Hexbug Nano set and he and his sister spent over an hour just sitting and watching the bugs go around the maze he built.Pros:
-The spiral was lots of fun. It lets the bugs travel from one level to another and adds interest to the maze. It interfaced easily with the larger set.
-This set comes with stop/go gates which help control the flow of the bugs
-The setup is customizable. It can be moved around as desired. You could buy additional sets and they would work easily with each other.Cons:
-Setup of the spiral required some fiddling to get it right
-Can't chose which color "bug" you get. This makes it harder to pick a range of colors (because kids don't want two of the same color).

this is great . OMG This is so awsome I love it so much. It is really awsome that you can extend it to create a maze and I will play with it for 3 hours and still not get bored. Is an awsome present for someone.

Not as described. . Beware! The product description indicates the set contains two hex bugs, but there is only one. Since my granddaughter is getting this for Christmas, I gave rated it according to what I thought it would be without any experience with it.

Great toy - not as advertised . My 7 year old son loves this, especially since he can connect his set with his friend's set and make a huge battle arena. However, the product description says it comes with 2 nano bugs and it only actually comes with 1. So if you want to have two bugs to battle, you will have to buy another one.

Not bad. . We bought this for our son for Christmas. He is really enjoying it so far. I am a little concerned about the durability of the spiral ramp (just because my son, like many boys can play a little rough from time to time).
Also, when the batteries in the bugs start to run down, the bugs still operate well on the flat surfaces, but struggle to get up the ramp, so we have had a few times where they have log-jammed in the spiral. It is a little hard to reach into the spiral and grab the bugs to pull them out (even with my son's little fingers). But overall, he is having fun with the toy which is what is most important to me.

Great starter piece . It's really fun to watch the bugs bump into the walls until they find the spiral, then make their way to the next level. We like to mess with our bugs and keep the gates locked closed for a while, see if they can figure out what to do. Yes, I know the bugs are not sentient -- it's fun to mess with them anyway.Load up on those little button batteries -- hex bugs eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Hexbug Fun! . This is a birthday gift for my granson. He has some Hexbugs and habitat. I love watching them. I am sure he will enjoy watching the bugs race down the spiral.

Really fun! . This turns out to be very fun. A self-contained system for the hex bugs to run around in -- made from heavy-duty plastic, and when closed, there is a carrying handle. Awesome little robot . I purchased one of these, honestly ,for myself because I thought it looked neat. I was surprised with how fast it walks, and it handles at least low pile carpeting fairly well, plus you can see more of the internal mechanics so get at least a small idea of how it works. Can easily see why the Hexbug line has gotten so far.

In short, I highly recommend it, only thing I wish is that the LED "eye" stayed on to show direction.

A lot of fun . I bought this toy for Christmas for my 11 year old nephew, it was a hit. I got a call saying thank you and got a video of just what it does. It is very smooth with it's motions, it looks and acts like a bug and is very creepy. Everyone was having fun with this toy, even adults enjoyed this toy. I recommend it for anyone who loves robots, bugs, or crawly creatures of any kind. This is a great toy!

Hexbug is a micro-creature toy robot inspired by BEAM technology. Hexbug has a few simple behaviors. Once switched on, Hexbug will move forward with a classic alternating tripod gait. If an obstruction touches either of the antennae, or if it detects a loud sound it will back up to the left and then continue forward. The name Hexbug, however, has more to do with the shape of the packaging it is sold in than the number of legs it has.

The nano series, which acts very similarly to a bug in that it will flip itself over if it is placed on its back. It has an off-set motor in it which causes it to vibrate.

Fun cat toy! . If you want to drive your cats nuts, let them chase this little thing around your kitchen floor. When it runs into something it turns around and if the cats tip it over, it rights itself. Our cats love it when it goes under the stove and then comes out in a few minutes. They're too freaked out about it to actually put the toy in their mouths because it vibrates, so it keeps them busy and I don't have to worry about them eating it. Kids love it, too, and keeps them wondering just what makes this little invention move since it has no moving parts - only the vibration keeps it going. I recommend this cheap, cute toy.

The Hexbug Nano Line Keeps Expanding . I am a teacher and in the summer I run a Science Camp for 5th and 6th graders. A couple of years ago, we bought some Hexbugs for the Camp so the kids could play around with them and make observations about how they work. One of the things they loved to do was to race the bugs. With this set, they are provided with a nice, customizable track to race on. Now on to the specifics:

2 White Hexpods
2 Checkered Flags
2 Stop/Go Signs
2 Hexbug Nanos
1 Sticker Sheet and
2 Magnetic Starter Tracks

*Based on prices of other Hexbug Nano sets, this seems like a good deal for all you get. The magnetic starter tracks are very cool. What you do is have your Hexbug turned on and have it enter the magnetic track. I magnet buried in the track will hold the bug in place until you push the black "Starter" button on the top of the track. When this is pushed, it releases the bugs for a race to the finish. It is a cool design because it allows both bugs to be released at the same time.

*The kit comes with a recommended way to set it up but it can be easily customized. Especially if you have extra pieces from previous kits. Having said that, it can be customized without having any other pieces.

*The kit said it came with two "special" Hexbugs that were designed specifically for use on this track. I thought that might have something to do with the magnets. I am going to test a couple of my regular Hexbugs on it later and see what, if any, differences there are.

*I have three sons I test all my Science Camp stuff out with and they absolutely love the set. They keep changing the track slightly to see what, if anything, will happen.

All in all, it is worth the money. I bought mine for $49.99 at my local Target.

love it so do my kids:) . My kids are 2 and 4 and they love this toy. They say Hex bugs are awesome....the whole family sits down to play.

Hexbug Nano Racetrack Habitat Reviews
Hexbug Nanos are awesome . I admit I was a bit skeptical about this line of products. It didn't seem like they would be that interesting or hold my son's interest. Instead, we have both had hours of fun connecting and creating different configurations and playing the Hexbugs. Definitely a great idea for family time. The only downside I have seen so far is that the bugs tend to go through batteries fairly quickly. They are cheap enough to find though and easy to change. I just ordered more track pieces to add on to it.

Excellent!! . My son is having so much fun w/ this. I love it too. Uses imagination to build & rebuild. I like that you can build it up if you don't have the room to spread it out. I like that you can keep adding more pieces to it.

Occupies Children . A very good toy for children old enough to know that these hexbugs need attention so that they do not disappear under furniture. This is really not a race track as the title implies rather a toy to study random motions and semi-intelligent choices of those tiny robotic bugs: where will they go given several opportunities. Great entertainment for adults as well.

Fun for boys . My boys (3 and 5) received this toy from Grandma. Easy to set up.
Comes with two hex bugs. They can race. Works with magnets to help them
get to starting gate. I am sure they will have fun
designing new race tracks. Good price. Arrived quickly.
