This maritime telescope is designed for display, although it does have a 32x magnification under certain conditions. It has a tripod that can extend to about 60" high and the scope is removable from the stand. The scope length is approximately 40". Lens cap is attached by a decorative chain. Although this item does function it is not a high quality telescope.
Galileo is credited with inventing the first refracting telescope. Through his understanding of how light passes through a lens, he was able to construct a device that focused on an image and enabled the user to see an object as though it were brighter, clearer, and closer.

Solid Value. Looks More Expensive Than It Really Is. . I was surprised to see a brass telescope advertised at such a low price of $178. I have been watching one at almost $500 and another closer to $2000. Let me first say that this brass telescope is exactly what they offered. (Notice they don't go into detail or even talk about its quality. The optics are not the best, but are usable and they work. The telescope itself arrived with three very minor dimples in the brass housing. The wood stand needed to be wiped down with Pledge and it was fine. Very well packaged and it showed evidence of its "Made in India" origins in that it was an older, very inexpensive type cardboard used for shipping. Now, the very best part? This telescope looks impressive and expensive from any angle. It has gathered kudos and compliments when ever anyone has come over or attended a party. I live on the 23rd floor of a condo directly on Miami Beach and its great for spying the beach activities. Although there was a card enclosed asking that I contact them via email to address any concerns, I didn't because the dimples were really very minor. For the price, and the "Made in India" quality, this has proven to be a remarkable find on Amazon for me. I gave it four stars for its value and presentation.
