Daughter Loves It . My daughter was studying volcanos at school, so I found this at a perfect time. She loves it, and with one example, she can make her own volcano erupt whenever she likes. Clean-up is tolerable.

Nice volcano- immediate satisfaction. . This volcano was a big hit. I read the enclosed booklet to my kids about the different types of volcanos. That was short enough but informative enough- just right. We separated the two parts of the volcano and talked about what each part of the labeled side does. Then we errupted it. That was the ONLY part that was a wee bit disappointing and I think that the reason for it was that we followed the recipe for lava in the booklet. That contained liquid dish soap. I think the dish soap slowed down the flow. It was probably more realistic that way, but not quite as exciting. Next time, we will leave the soap out. Overall, it was pretty good.

Amazing educational resource but... . Because my 6 years old's son is a curious pre-scientific, I thought a real volcano (volcano model) could nourish his always thinking mind. However, the volcano was amazing just the first time he saw it. We make an eruption at the follow day and another one in the follow one. That's it! Now the box is standing in my room formally "inactive". As a teacher, I wondering if it could be a good experience for my students at school, but I don't know yet if for 3 years old could provide the same emotions than for a 5-6 years child. The information inside the model is more for older ones. For educational resource, it will help but for a regular present for your children (it doesn't matter how scientific they are) won't be a good-excited idea.

Great tool for the classroom! . I would recommend this to any parent or teacher looking to teach about volcanoes. It is interesting and fun for children of all ages.

Colossal Disappointment . What a colossal disappointment! This thing is cheaply made and poorly designed. It is not even a useful educational tool. One of the biggest rip-offs I have ever seen!

The Perfect Illustration for Jesus Blowing Away Our Sins . Sunday school and Vacation Bible School kids love the volcano. I label the baking soda as Sin and the red colored vinegar as the Blood of Jesus. They are able to see what the blood of Jesus does for our sins when we allow Him to be our Savior. They Get It. It is awesome when I find an illustration that sticks in the kids minds and explains Christ's love and salvation for us so well. I will use the volcano over and over again. Priceless!!!

Smaller than advertised . I purchased these test tubes to hold rolled up invitations to a "science" themed birthday party. The description listed them as 1.5" in diameter, which should have been plenty big. However, the actual tubes are much smaller. The cap is about 0.75" in diameter, and the tube itself even smaller. Had to return them. They are, however, a "typical" test tube size that you might expect if you didn't read the description.

Plastic Test Tube Review . The product was shipped in a timely manner and accurately matched the description presented. I bought this for my kids who just wanted to use them to collect little items on our hikes.

Ok but... . I used these to make lava tubes with the kids at Bring Your Child to Work Day. One was cracked out of the package. The kids loved them but when they went to screw the lid on to take them home we found that the threads weren't that tight and the liquid leaked out in the plastic bag.

Note that another reviewer is right... these are not as large as shown in the picture. They are the size of a 'normal' glass test tube.

So far so good . I homeschool my eldest son, so this equipment has become part of our "science lab". So far it has performed very well for us (though we don't consider it to be a "toy.").

Wow..I'm shocked!!! . The game 24 math challenge is awesome. I bought single and double digits games for my 5th grade daughter. Her school was holding a tournament. She came in first place. She learned so much and picked it up very quickly. I highly recommend this game. You really have to know your multiplication facts and patterns. This game is very educational and more importantly...FUN!!!!!!!! I highly recommend it.

Seems to be addictive! . My son found out about this game at school and pestered me endlessly to get it for him. Over the months since then he's played it so much that his ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply in his head has become pretty amazing. Granted he did like math to begin with which probably helps a lot but this game has really helped to bring his grade up. Amazing what you can get away with when you call it a game instead of educational. There are three levels of cards from fairly easy to pretty hard so it isn't too hard to get a child started on it.

Amazing!!! . This 24 Double Digit Math Game is absolutely fantastic! Not only is it fun, but educational as well. I initially bought the single digit game and it quickly became a big hit with the entire family. My in-laws who are in their 60's also enjoyed it. Time for Time . At the learning center I've worked with students from five to sixty, and with students of any age one sometimes encounters stumbling blocks, obstacles that arrest or slow progress. These boulders in the road might be the times tables, use of apostrophes in possessives, sight word mastery, long division, potato agronomy, sequencing of events in a passage, word problems, counting money, or telling time. A common difficulty youngsters encounter when studying time is calculating elapsed time. For these students the difficulty is compounded when the event begins before noon and ends in the afternoon.

I like using manipulatives to teach an abstract concept like elapsed time. For the one to one lessons I've sometimes used real clocks, but mostly use a model clock designed for young learners. Students physically turn the hands of the clock and count the revolutions to determine elapsed time. Some require more practice than others despite extensive use of the visuals and manipulatives. Even a snack of cookies fortified with thyme doesn't always help. Recently we acquired a new tool for those having difficulty mastering elapsed time. It's a product called Elapsed Time Line from Learning Resources.

Elapsed Time Line

Learning Resources? calls their product a linear, color-coded ruler, and it does indeed look like a bright yellow ruler. In fact it looks like two bright yellow rulers joined in the middle with a plastic hinge. When unfolded the elapsed time line device measures 24" by 2.5 inches. Amazingly the height is a constant 2.5" whether or not the elapsed time line is folded or unfolded!

The ruler on the left is the AM side. The numbered hours are inside red circles; the lines between the circles are in increments of five minutes with the numbers 15, 30, and 45 shown as numerals. On the PM side the hours are inside green circles.

On the top of the time line is a blue starting time marker that slides inside a channel. On the bottom of the time line is a red indicator also sliding inside a channel. A clever child or a potato head can figure out how to remove the markers making the time line almost useless.

The included activity guide is of marginal usefulness. It's a small tri-folded sheet of paper that mostly describes the time line. Two example problems are illustrated on the back of the activity guide. The user is cautioned not to force the time line to close because it could cause it to break. Perhaps one should ask it nicely to close instead of using force.

Random Thoughts and Opinions

The elementary grade teachers with whom I shared the Elapsed Time Line weren't familiar with it and questioned its usefulness and longevity. A kindergarten teacher said many of her students would break the thing in less than five minutes or discover how to remove the sliding arrows. She said that the time line might be useful for one to one instruction, but she wouldn't want to distribute these to a class.

One teacher questioned the difficulty of transition from the linear time line to a real clock. I don't thing that transitioning will be a problem.

The unit looks like a ruler, generic and utilitarian. I'd like to see bigger numbers, more colors, and even some illustrations to give this time tool some pizzazz. The back of the Elapsed Time Line is totally blank, a vacuum begging to be filled.

The sliding arrows don't slide easily making it difficult for youngsters to place the markers precisely. Even this Spudman had some difficulty placing the arrows on target.

The students with whom I shared the Elapsed Time Line were somewhat underwhelmed though they welcomed this new approach to an old topic. Most found it easier to determine elapsed time using the "time line" than using fingers, pencil and paper, or a model clock with moving hands. After ten minutes or so with the Elapsed Time Line students and teacher were ready to move on to something else.

I found prices online for this tool ranging from 15 to thirty dollars. Don't pay more than fifteen dollars for it. For years I've presented the same concept of linear time by using an actual ruler or simply writing out the hours on a sheet of paper with time increments marked between the hours. The cost for my homemade paper and pencil timeline? Nothing but a little time.

Great learning game & fun! . My daughter had some trouble conceptualizing fractions and this game made it concrete for her. We had fun putting together the pizzas. The game doesn't take long and you can add some extra learning to it yourself. For instance, ask your child what is larger 3/4s or 1/2. They can see the little pizzas and can tell you the answer. They will have this concrete image stored inside their little brains and when asked the same questions in school will be able to tell their teacher. Great fun with a learning bonus!

Auntie Pasta's  Fraction Game Reviews
Not the most educational but fun. . The game I was sent was actually warped and the spinner looks like it has been through the ringer.

However, after playing it for the first time tonight, my 4, 7, and 9 year olds LOVE it.

The other negative, other than the condition, is that I fail to see how it is really eduacational. The spinner shows the actual toppings from the pizza rather than the fractions so my kids were more likely to call, "I got a mushroom" than to say, "I get 1/2".

Auntie Pasta's  Fraction Game Opinions
Pizza game . I am an elementary math teacher. I have worked with students in grades 1st - 5th. I changed schools this year and this is one of the games I used at my old school. When I found it on Amazon at a great price I ordered it to use with my students. I have not taken it to work yet. My kids at home are enjoying it.

Fun fractions but very basic . If your goal is to use this game to get your children to understand basic fractions you won't be disappointed. If however you've been working with fractions and your child understands them (say you involving them in cooking where measuring is required), you may find this too basic. While it's great to know that 4 quarters make a whole and you can add 1/2 and 2/4 and get a whole, that's about the extent of the creativity this game offers. My child gets frustrated because other than those combinations, (and the regular 4/4 etc.) he can't add the pieces of pies with different toppings and make a whole pie. Good, but not great. Could be much much better or perhaps the company could offer a more advanced game?

Auntie's fraction game . This game is very educational, I think that we are going to have loads of fun with it

Good Practice . If you used old wrapups, you will be a bit disappointed in these. They are all hooked together and there is one string. Good for homeschoolers or Moms . These flashcards are a nice tool for sight words. I wish they included some kind of ring, so they could be flipped. They would also benefit from a little page of directions for teaching suggestions, games and activities. The box includes none of these. Also, I think there are too many sight words included. I really only wanted the Dolch sight words, but these include the Fry and Dolch words. They are printed on nice durable cardstock, with a nice, readable font. However the fun value is literally zero, so look around for something like Wrap Ups, or Flash Kids sight words. Maybe there is something slightly more creative. What I am doing is using a hole punch and a ring. If my son knows the word immediately we punch the card. After five punches the card is taken out and replaced with a new word. I plan to have a stack of about 20 going at a time. A friend gave me a metal ring to keep them on, but I don't know where one would buy a ring.

Good product . Simple flashcards. Well made. High quality. Not a lot of fun to go through flashcards but sometimes it is necessary.

Sturdy but Weak and Heavy . I bought these to use with kids 2, 4, and 5 years old. They only focus right in the very middle of the magnifying glass (the field of focus is small) and they are quite heavy for being plastic. They have a flip up ring that seems very fragile - the kids haven't broken them yet, but I generally just didn't let them flip the rings when they first got them and I think they forgot about them.

Good things - you get quite a few in the set and the kids liked the different colors.

I think money would be better spent on a better quality magnifier. These have such a small field of focus and are so cumbersome that the kids don't use them that much. They do like to pretend to use them, but don't really look at the stuff through them (because it is blurry, I think).

Be careful of the stand . These are GREAT! My soon has had one for ages, the kindy uses them too. They are great presents for kids from 2-6yrs and bright colours too. The only issue I have had is the stand that folds out can be a bit too flimsy and likely to bend to far and break with out enough care.Another point is the shipping weight for the Amazon purchase is incorrect, it most certainly doesn't weigh 9lb. I contacted amazon and they refunded the additional shipping fee. The box itself weighs more like 2lb. So if you are paying the shipping (I am in Australia so have to pay by weight) then I suggest checking 1st with Amazon.

teacher assistant . overall I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I am using these for 3, 4, and 5 year olds and needed them large and sturdy. The only part I'm worried about is the stand, it seems like it might break off easy.

Addition Wrap-Ups a big hit at our house!! . I bought a set of Addition Wrap-Up Keys for my homeschooled 5 yo daughter thinking that when she started to get into addition she might enjoy these more than workbook pages. As soon as I opened them she couldn't wait to try them. I briefly showed her how they work, and was amazed to see her pick up addition so quickly. Instead of using them to suplement her other math, I feel like we are using her other math to suplement the Wrap-Ups. I think this is a wonderful product. They are small, portable, self contained, and self correcting. They are great for using at home, in the car, the doctors office or to visit grandma. Right away, I bought the subraction set, and am planning to buy the others too, as soon as she is old enough to use them.

Must have for tutors! . When I was a kid I had trouble with my multiplication tables, and my tutor recommended these to my mom. Soon enough I was beating my own time scores and little did I know how much these would help me in the math world. Today I am buying these for the kids I tutor in math. Definitely worth the ten bucks, and they're durable and good for a range of ages!!!

great for the manipulative learner! . My daughter loves math but was struggling with timed math tests. The keys allowed her to quiz herself instead of me using flashcards with her. She is artsy and the simple motion of her wrapping the string around while answering the problem helped her very quickly go through her addition tests. It is now easy to ask her to review math for a few minutes every day because this made it fun for her.

INSTANT fun . Out of the package and into the hands of the five-year-old. In ten seconds, he had figured out the +1 card and was working it out on his own. Very successful math toy.

awkward but good . We have used single keys in the past and tend to lose them so it is an advantage to have them all together. However, it does make the wrap up more difficult for kids to use. Despite this, it is still a great way for them to review their facts and get faster at addition.

Addition fun! . I bought this with the subtraction wrap up for my 7 year old twins. It is very durable and has even survived being played with by my one and three year olds. There was a bit of a learning curve because they didn't know how to hold the string tight enough to keep it from slipping to the incorrect number, but it didn't take long for them to catch on. Now we set the timer and race to see who can finish the fastest.

Fun educational . This game is a very simple, straightforward game that is a little boring with just two people. It is best played with four or more. Not very difficult at all, the most exciting part is doing the excercises. You just keep spinning the spinner card and pick a food card of the same color of the color you spun. Then you either do the excercise or pick a food card of the same color. It is a little educational, but would be more effective if you had to get points for a food group, like more points for a healthy food group and less points for picking, say, candy or cake in the oils food group. All in all, I guess it's okay. I expected more of a learning component to be honest.
