AWFUL . My child loves cars, and loves to build them, but this is awful. It is ridiculously heavy, the magnets come off the pieces, there is only one set of wheels, so you can only make one car (no truck) at a time. Awful. One of the worst things I have ever purchased. Too bad, I was looking for a "paper doll" kind of car building toy and this was all I could find.

Monkey Multiplier . Works fairly well but with all charts or games that supply the answer for you, there could be little learning going on UNLESS the child uses it to check answers. One other use of the multiplier is to select a product and then try to guess the factors before looking at where the feet are pointing to. I bought this product because I LOVED the monkey math balance toy. That one is great for figuring out missing addends. It also visually reinforces the idea that both sides of an equation MUST be balanced (equal). As you might be able to discern, I'm an elementary school teacher. I have used Monkey Math successfully with K-2 grades. I bought the multiplier simply for the fun value. The reason I only gave it 2 stars for durability is that the product answer can be off by a fraction but easily adjusted. However, with a classful of students playing with it, which I have not done yet, I am wondering if it would hold up.

introduction to multiplication . I bought this for my 2nd grader because it was a package deal when buying Monkey Math which I bought for my preschooler. When it is out, she plays with it and practices her "times tables".

Cons Review

I teach middle school... . I work with several students who still have trouble with multiplication. Some of them are allowed to use calculators or multiplication tables. This product is an incentive multiplication table for my students - only the best behaved get to use the monkey.

Good for getting addition concept . My 3 yr old and 5 yr old like this toy. It gives them another way to conceptualize addition besides counting on their fingers. It is a good, tactile learning aid. They also like playing with the bananas in other ways (lining them up in order, feeding them to the monkey, etc.). They already have some math concepts from the LeapFrog Math Circus DVD (excellent!), so this is a nice addition to that.

Monkey Math is great! . I purchased Monkey Math for my four-year-old granddaughter whose mother is a Kindergarten teacher. I think Mom was more impressed! She feels that this is something that she can incorporate into her classroom to help her students comprehend math basics. As well, she felt that it teaches the basics of Algebra. Both my granddaughters (2 and 4) were enjoying playing with this game. I would highly recommend it!

Learning Mates Monkey Math Opinions
Not recommended . A banana number missing from the sealed box and the quality of construction was much less than anticipated. I will be surprised if it lasts 4 months.

Fun educational toy . My daughter (4), enjoys balancing out this toy. I have to write down the numbers and show her how to add them together for her to really understand equal or not equal though. All in all, it's a toy worth having I believe.

Not really a game just a toy . I got this for my 5-year old son. He seems to enjoy it, but it lags behind his other favorites. I think a big problem is that there's no competitive game aspect. It's just a game that makes it easy - and fun? - to do simple math problems. There is no set game plan, just long instructions on ways to introduce math concepts. I contrast this to "Sum Swamp" - a math-based board game that my son just loves: that one teaches math concepts and grammar (x + y = ?) AND has a traditional board game-style competition.

visual learning . I bought this for my 4year old nephew. He doesn't quite grasp the idea of adding the bananas yet. Although, he understands that if the monkey looks straight ahead, he has done well.

Learning the Monkey Way . This plastic toy is cute and fun for children that are ready and willing to learn; too that get a kick out of monkeys! The banana bunches are conveniently sized and can be counted with little fingers. The eyes "move" when off balance or being balanced, and that helps encourage application. Box says not for 0-3, and it does seem to be geared toward 4+ years. Until the child is familiar, parent participation strongly encouraged.

Monkey Mate Math Learning Toy . My daughter picked this out of Rainbow Resources' catalog, probably because it involved monkeys!
The game puts together very easily. The monkey is essentially a scale and your child needs to hang bunches of bananas on each of his arms to balance him out. They are perfectly calibrated to make this work every time...as long as both sides equal each other. And that's where the math comes in. My daughter is in first grade and is still learning her tens addition facts, so this toy was helpful and fun. Even her big brothers got a kick out of it. It is not something she would enjoy doing for a long time, as she lost interest...it's more the type of toy to pull out every once in awhile when math is getting boring. It's very durable, attractive and appealing to young children.

Makes early math fun! Also teaches physics. . Saw this at my nephew's 6 y.o. party, had to have it for my young 'uns (4 and 7). QUICK SHIPPING! Toy arrived in perfect condition. They like trying to purposely tip the monkey via an incorrectly balanced equation, so his eyes cross. Very intuitive toy, makes learning and having fun seamless.

Fun and educational! . I have two boys (ages 6 and almost 5), and they both love this set. For the most part it's great for younger kids because of the easy-to-use connectors. When they are snapped together, they stay together until you pull them apart, so there isn't the frustration factor that can come with flimsier connectors. One note, however: the two wire pieces are a little less durable than the rest of the set. Make sure to tell your kids to disconnect by pulling on the END CONNECTORS and NOT on the wires themselves. If they pull the wires, they can become disconnected from the end connectors (we've had to repair one of our wires). My 6-year-old spends hours going through the instruction booklet, doing all the example projects, and also has a lot of fun inventing his own circuits. He'll put them together and see if they work...then methodically move bits around until it does work.

The booklet itself is really helpful. The projects (30 in all) are organized into groups: (A) learning to fit batteries, and connect components like lights and a fan; (B) learning about various switches; (C) series circuits; (D) parallel circuits; (E) mixed-connection circuits; (F) use of connecting wires; and (G) connecting vocal circuits (like making different sounds with the speaker by changing the connections). This kit is a great introduction to electricity and circuits!

too complicated for 5 year old . I can't wait to pull it out when he's older because it is cool. We had read a magic school bus on electricity and Dad works for an electricity company so... but really, too many small pieces for him at age 5. Better to wait for age 7.
