Wonderful beginning collection! . I purchased this set for use in our homeschool earth-science studies. With no other reviews to go on I was a bit hesitant, but this collection turned out to be wonderful!
The samples are large and substantial (with the exception of the two micas, which by thier very nature are quite thin and fragile), the box has individual sections for each rock or mineral, and the packaging is attractive and sturdy. The accompanying study guide is informative and detailed, including discussions of all four types included -- rock-forming minerals (basically, minerals that are found in nature as rocks), igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks--as well as specifics about each sample.
The Rocks and Rock Forming Mineral Collection would be a great addition to any earth-science study, as well as a fun "basic set" for the beginning hobbyist.

Great educational toy . My daughter loves rocks and this educational collection, is great. It has a pretty sturdy red box, and inside divisions for every rock, which are labeled and later explained in a booklet.
