Essential Fraction Manipulatives . These fraction circles are a colorful and effective way to enhance lessons on fractions in general and especially lessons on equivalent fractions. Pieces range in size and number from one whole through eight eighths, with each fraction set in its own color. The case in which they come is fairly rugged, but there is nothing to hold the lid on, so if dropped, pieces will scatter. The pieces are solid, so breakage is unlikely. I find students just enjoy the task of putting these manipulatives back into their container in order as it is much like a completing a puzzle. I would be inclined to purchase the transparent variety next time as those would have greater aesthetic appeal on an overhead projector. These circles would also be a valuable addition to a Math center (sorry for the pun).
