Intriguing Choice for College Students... . This is an interesting, audience-specific Magnetic Poetry word collection. Great little gift . The College Magnetic Poetry Kit was a neat and fun little way to give some of the students that I work with an opportunity to construct hilariously silly sentences. I certainly didn't want to condone any support for such words as "weed" and "smoke", so I simply took those words out before I put them up. The words can definitely be manipulated and moved to create very funny phrases. It's a great and cheap little gift for anyone.

short-lived appeal; not ideal for young kids . My daughter is six and is into writing lists of rhyming words on her dry-erase board (chalkboard, random scraps of paper, bedroom wall . . . ) so I thought that this would be a fun diversion for her. I've had a blast with magnetic poetry kits over the years and thought it would be a way to share the joy.

The result wasn't quite what I expected. The most time we spent with this was when we went through the tedious task of breaking the sheets of words into the individual magnets and sticking them on the front of the fridge. After a few minutes of organizing the words into rhyming sets, my daughter was ready to move on.

The magnetic words are tiny, prone to fall off the refrigerator and end up on the kitchen floor. I tried putting the magnets on a cookie sheet and that didn't work so well, either. The little magnets are small and difficult to manipulate.

The set includes some fun rhymes - tizzy, busy, fizzy, dizzy; funny, bunny, money, honey; snore,store, sore; -- as well some words without obvious rhymes -- monkey, princess, kangaroo, monster. There are plenty of words to work with.

Overall, this seems like it has the potential to be lots of fun but it just didn't turn out that way in our case. The little magnets may be better suited to older kids. I haven't given up yet, though -- After several months, the words are still up on the fridge and I'm hopeful that they will get some use before I pass them on.

Magnetic Poetry Kit - Really Big Words Reviews
magnetic poetry for kids . The size of these are excellent. Large enough to read and handle. So much fun for little ones. My daughter (kindergarten) loves to make up sentences with these. She's even trying to teach my younger daughter to read with them. We opted for magnetic poetry over the dry erase markers for our playroom. Much safer and cleaner.

As a former kindergarten/ first grade teacher, these would be great in the classroom. One box of these and a small magnetic board equals a great independent center!

Magnetic Poetry Kit - Really Big Words Opinions
Really Big Impact . I got it for my nephews and they simply loved it! Thanks to this set they tend to frame sentences during playtime also! I would highly recommend it to parents who may want to accelerate their kids learning process.

These really ARE big. . I ordered the really big words in combination with a couple other sets (poetry and beginning sight words I believe) with the intention of putting them all on the fridge for my little girl to practice "writing" with. Yeah, its not going to work! At least not on one side of the fridge... These are HUGE. The word "flower" for instance is longer than my entire hand. Just a three letter word is longer than one of my fingers - And I have really big hands!
That said, well, at least I can put these on one side of the fridge and it hides the cat/dog/kid noseprints :D And I can clearly read them from the next room...

They are a lot of fun though and the little case they came in is perfect for keeping hair doodads in.

My only real complaint is that a lot of the words are curled on the ends. Particularly some short words like "saw" and some of the suffixes like "ed" or "ing" have the edges curled up so much that they will not lay flat on the fridge at all. I'm sure if I lay them inside a book for a couple of days they'll flatten out though.

Great for OT! . I bought this for my son with Aspergers. He can read and he can write, but he has a problem getting the words from his mind onto paper. He took to this instantly. An added bonus, being able to see his words, he's correcting his own speech! The only problem I have is that it's missing simple words like "did". I was happy to see that it came with "n't" and "es", so you could add onto words. But my son is so funny about things, he refuses just to place a homemade word sign into the sentence. Instead, he will totally change his sentence. That is the ONLY problem I've had with the set. However, I have to give the company credit. They probably never figured on their product being used in this way. IT IS AN AMAZING TOOL FOR MY SON!!! And for that, I am completely satisfied. Now if they will create an 'additional words' kit, life would be perfect. ;o)

Great for Kids . I love these magnetic poetry sets. They're a great addition to any fridge door or other magnetic surface. This Really Big Words version is great for little kids. It's a great way to expand a kid's vocabulary!

Word nerd fun . Well, so far I have "played" with this magnetic poetry kit more than my 5-year-old, but I think once he is more fluent at reading that will change. I love these kits because they make you think about putting words together in ways you might not ordinarily do it. Of course there's always the word you wish were there that isn't... it'd be great if there were a supplementary kit with letters for making your own words (maybe there is and I just haven't looked for it yet). Anyway, a fun kit and the large size of the word magnets is good for kids. One more possibility for improvement: if the magnets were a bit thicker, they'd be easier for a child to manipulate. You kind of have to have fingernails to pull them off the magnetic surface.

Great for beginning readers . The words are great for my 3 year old to build on the sight words he already knows. It's a great mix of first words and more difficult words and I love the large font. I was debating whether I should get "first words" or "really big words" and am very happy with my decision.

Only complaint is that the box holding the words is not very durable. We don't really use the box, but the second time I opened it, the lid fell off. I've been able to put it back on, but it's not sturdy. But, it's not the box that makes this toy fun and educational...it's the magnets.

I would highly recommend this for any child who has started reading and loves words.

Great Idea . The big word magnets have great word selection, excellent large scale size, much more attractive on fridge then the coloured alphabet. My 4 year old daughter loves it and the metal case they came in has been a hit.

beautiful and fun . This is a terrific set. We bought it for our kindergartner, but the whole family has fun with it. You get multiples of letters and numbers, so you're not limited as you would be with a single-slphabet/number set. Magnetic Poetry - Office . Great! I even made some additional magnets for words that weren't included, like "bossy", and individuals names. One manager tried to use it to write out inspirational sentences, however, the spirit of mutiny prevails. My favorite is "She No Here". (Standard answer when someone wants to speak to you on the phone. Or, "Always associate stress with Corporate Management". We needed something like that at work!

Nice gift but could use some examples . The number of magnet words included with this kit is a little overwhelming, and I find myself trying to figure out how to arrange them. There is only one example of a saying on the front of the box, and it would have been helpful if there had been additional examples included with the kit as a starting point.The magnets themselves seem to be good quality, and the writing is clear and consistent. My only issue is the box they come in - while it is very pretty, the box's window is not covered with anything (the front of the box is actually a lift-up flap), so the magnets fall right out if you try to store them! I ended up cutting the piece of hard plastic that initially contains the magnets and taped it to the inside of the box, but I shouldn't have had to do that.I would have given this set a 5 star if there had been examples of sayings provided and if the box (which really is quite pretty) had been suited to store the pieces in.

Thyne Magnets are Divine . This is a great set of words and most of the words you don't realize they're Shakespearean. There are some Old English like words of course and there are also some random words that they used during the Shakespearean time period, like "saucy" for example.

Good fun.... . I had got one of these sets for myself to put on my cubicle wall at work, and it was a hit there, so I got one for my dad for Christmas to take to work. He loved it and is sure it'll get a lot of use there. It has a real variety of words, things you probably wouldn't expect to see, either.

Little box of fun . I like this little magnetic Haiku set. It is handy enough to tote right along with you.I do not use mine on the fridge.I spread the words out, and form poems right on the counter.Afterwards, I write the poem in my poetry journal.I have only one complaint.Although the box is lovely in its decor,I so wish this came in a metal box. Far easier to toss in your purse....no crushing.However, that said,I so like this item!

Fun times . These magnets are great for relieving boredom and having some inspiring artistic moments in the process.

Supplemental pieces only. . There's not enough here to make Haiku (or anything else) without the original set, too, for words like "the" and "and"... it's a great set of lovely ADDITIONAL words, but you'll probably want the original set, too.

fun on the fridge . Ah there is nothing like friends coming over and getting distracted by words on the fridge and leaving little words of wisdom.
It's the best when you find them the next morning :)
