A fun magnet experiment . There were a lot of reviews about the difficulty of getting this product working and I was naturally a little hesitant. Still, I'm very interested in levitation and this seemed like fun so I ordered it. I got the top working just fine in about an hour and played with it that same night until my fingers were sore. In a few days I was able to get the top to spin repeatedly for around 2 minutes without any additional products. I will be purchasing the Levitron Perpetuator next year to keep the top spinning "indefinitely".
The instructions to get the top going were exceptionally clear and concise. My kids love moving their hands around the floating top and also enjoy trying to catch it mid-air.
One recommendation: Set the base up on a carpeted floor. My first few spins sent the top flying around the room and I was afraid of breaking it.

A cool toy for my 10 year old. . As promised, there is significant patience required to get this going. But once accomplished, it's a fascinating demonstration of magnetic suspension.
Viewers might find it useful to look up videos on youtube that show how this works.

levitron top . The Levitron takes a while to calibrate, but works well. It took hundreds of tries to figure out. It finally worked once I added weights to it. It could be frustrating and requires lots of patience.

Not a toy . This is an amazing device. It's quite incredible--once you get it to work. My elven-year-old son had a delightful time putting it together, but there is a serious learning curve when it comes to making the device actually work. While an adult has the patience required to learn the technique, my preteen became board after several tries and gave up. Still, it makes for an effective demonstration of several scientific concepts--once you figure out how to make it work . . .

Thinkgeek is AWESOME! . This product is good. Thinkgeek has EXCELENT support. I bought it and realized that I needed to cancel it, so I contacted them via E-Mail. Usually companies don't pay attention to E-Mails, or they have an automated E-Mailer. Not this one. I got a confirmation saying it was canceled. However, Get "Geek Points" by buying it from www.thinkgeek.com !

great product . i loved this toy i bought it and had a hard time getting it started but once i did it was great.

Amazing to see work but TOUGH to master. . This toy is very educational and quite amazing to see working. However, this toy is rather hard to adjust for sustained levitation.

But it IS possible with a little patience and understanding.

Here's a quick few tips.

Tuning the top:

First, start out with your top a little overly heavy with the 2 smaller brass washers and the 2 large red and blue plastic washers and both the black rubber O-rings. This is most certainly too heavy, but it's easier to get the top flying tuning it from a heavy weight than starting with a lighter weight. When the top is too light, it will "bounce" up and out of the magnetic field too erratically making it very difficult to determine the proper leveling of the base (see below). Being too heavy you'll find it does not want to lift off the clear plastic offset tray as you slowly lift the tray and the spinning top up to the equilibrium point of the magnetic field. One at a time, remove the one of the washers and try again. The kit provides several brass and plastic washers of various sizes to EXACTLY tune the top to within a few micrograms. Through experimentation you will find the perfect weight that JUST lifts the top off the offset plate. You will also discover that temperature will change the magnetic fields of both the top and the base, so each time you decide to play with the toy, it may need to be slightly rebalanced/tuned.

Leveling the base:

Once you have the top close to perfect as to weight, you need to perfectly level the base. If the top tends to "fall" out of the magnetic field in one direction consistently, raise that side with the knurled legs of the base. Try a quarter turn and try again. The base has indicators what direction needs to be turned to raise and lower.

There are many YouTube videos showing people lifting the offset tray and top into the magnetic field's equilibrium point.

Again, understand up front, the top needs to be PRECISELY balanced with the plastic and brass washers. The base also must be PERFECTLY LEVEL. You may very well get frustrated with JUST how exact this must be. But once you have achieved an exact balance and a perfectly level base, the top will levitate for 2 minutes or more.

Awesome Effect - IF You're Willing To Practice Practice Practice . This Levitron will absolutely amaze your friends, family, and ASTONISH kids. It is amazing the power and effect of rare earth magnets. The top appears to be floating and spinning as if by magic. That being said, you have to work to learn how to get this effect to work. It needs to be totally level and you need to determine what weight rings to use to get it properly balanced. If you are easily frustrated and have little patience - this is NOT the effect/toy for you. If you are willing to take the time to set this up properly and have no problem practicing something until you get it right...THIS WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF.
It is that good. It will attract EVERYONE in a room. People will not believe their eyes when you slide an empty wine glass over and around the spinning top. An incredible effect. IF you are willing to spend a little time getting it right.
No patience = horrible expense.
Good patience = Awesome Toy.

levitating top . This is an attractive top. I look for simple scientific items like this for nephews and grandkiddies so they will understand the principles. I could not get the top to work even using a levitron starter. I called the company that Amazon sold the product thru, told them the problem and they are sending a replacement at no charge. Service of Amazon and Edmonds Scientific is excellant. Edmonds stopped selling this product so others must have a problem. Not a big item and no big deal. I have had no problems with previoous products from both of these companies.

Levitron World Stage . I first started researching these after seeing something like it in iron man 2, which turns out was like 300+ dollars. In the related items bar i saw this and was interested. I looked at multiple products like this one, floating globes, levitating etc.. and found this one to be the best looking, cheapest, and best reviews. I got mine yesterday and it was eaassyy to set up. Its been "levitating for about 4 hours now and still spinning the same speed as a set it. The base is very sturdy with cool looking blue LED's that work great. The globe is a little cheaper then expected but looks good. The only thing misleading is in the description it says "Floats for months with a single battery". There is no place for batteries, only for an AC power adapter. Overall this is an AWESOME product, well worth the price.

My only question is,
How long are the magnetics going to last until they start giving out if i left it on constently? The mechanical parts inside?

Fascinated by Fascinations Globe . This toy is amazing. The globe really floats in mid-air above the platform. I don't understand the problems other reviewers had getting the globe to float. We were able to do it right away with just a few tries. In getting the globe to float, you may first want to put a washcloth or something over the platform to protect the mirror surface as the globe does smash down on the platform pretty hard. At night the blue LEDs are very bright so expect to live with a bright blue glow coming from the room it's in. Our levitron has been on for weeks now and it's still going strong. I wonder how long it will last before it finally breaks?

awesome . I got this product yesterday it is unbelievably cool, it took me like one min to set it up and the globe is floating on the stage, it is going round and round it is the best thing i bought as far as the toys are concerned. you got to try this item it is worth buying.

Pretty cool/ everyone checks it out . I really like it and got what I expected. My children who were given it as a gift really liked it also (7 and 10). Not hard to get to levitate. Use a cloth over plastic mirror while you learn. Got it going in 10 min. Both my children can do it. Crashes if power goes out. Didn't mare the mirror much when it did. Hard to keep absolutely flawless, but still a great display and glad I got it.

Two strikes and it is out . The first delivery had a defective globe: the magnetic material came unglued in minutes.

The second delivery was not defective but could not be made to levitate. The magnetic disk flips
over and obviously cannot be made to levitate. The disk is different from that illustrated.
When put into the globe, I can imagine that someone could occassionally get levitation. A number
of us could not after many careful attempts. I have had many levitating devices previously and
never had difficulty being careful enough to make them work. This device does not work.

Very Nice! . When ours came, it had a protective film over the "mirror" part. When I lifted it off it looked just fine. It's not like a bathroom mirror, but I suspect that's because that type of thickness would affect how the magnets work thus affecting the floating.It's not something you can drop-kick across a room, but it's more then sturdy enough to do what it's designed to do - sit on a desk all day and levitate. It doesn't run on batteries, which in my opinion is a plus. It comes with a transformer and a switch to turn the platform lights off and on.I had no problems finding the "spot" for the globe to float and rotate, either, and I didn't even have it out of the plastic yet. I will agree that it IS a little pricey for what you get, but then again you are paying for the "cool" value of it, not just the item itself, in this case.

Mesmerizing! . I work for a large international concern, so this is an incredible and especially appropriate piece to have on my desk. Everyone stops by to admire it with a sense of real wonderment. I've had it for several weeks now and even I find myself stopping more than once during the day to just watch the globe slowly spinning in space over the mirrored base. The blue lights add a nice futuristic touch as well. The magnet can be pulled out of the globe and floated on its own, so that you can place other objects on it (up to a certain weight and size). My son has one of these and currently is floating his model space shuttle.There are only two minor drawbacks:-- The globe itself is OK but not terribly exciting. It resembles one of those classic educational globes from school, but with a noticeable, fairly unattractive silver seam around the perimeter. It's geographical but with the national borders demarcated and the names of each country printed in white. I would have preferred a more realistic-looking globe without all the artificial additions...and without that annoying seam.-- It's VERY difficult to get floating. It takes dozens and dozens of attempts until you get the hang of it, and you WILL get frustrated along the way as the globe keeps getting slammed down onto the base by the magnetic pull. Once you get the feel for setting it up on the magnetic point, it's easy. I would strongly recommend you leave the protective plastic film on the mirrored base while learning how to set the globe floating, to protect it from scuffs. (Or you can lay a tissue over the base as you're practicing.)Once you get it going and its spinning in its quiescent space and time, you will love this piece. It's thought-provoking, interesting and educational.

Cons Review

Fun when it works . I initially purchased two of these as gifts. When you receive it, the first thing you'll notice is that the cheap plastic mirror base is scratched, making it appear used. This is not the case though - the base is that stick-on mirror that is easily marred. Even when functioning properly, it will take at least several tries to get the globe levitating, and when it hits the base, it leaves marks. So I presume the marks occurred during testing or packing. You may want to consider this if you want to give this as a gift. We chose not to give them away, because it looked like we were giving a used gift.

We spent many frustrating hours trying to get the globe and/or magnet to levitate unsuccessfully. So we opened the second one(same marring on the base), and it worked within five minutes. It has now been ten months, and it is behaving as the first one did - will not levitate. You find the balanced spot, let go, and it slams back down to the base.

The levitation is caused by several strategically placed electronic magnets in the base. Apparently over time, one or more of the magnets malfunction and this causes the toy to fail.

Bottom line, it's pretty cool when it works. I thought it made a nice night light. If you're ordering it as a gift, I suggest ordering early and testing it first.

COOL! . This is one of the COOLEST executive gadgets I have every owned!!!! And I am over 40 and have had many cool gadgets on my desk. Never have I had something floating on my desk! I have had it for several weeks now and it still elicits a wow feeling from me most mornings when I walk into my office and I see the globe floating and slowly spinning on my desk. Most people that come to my office feel the same way. Plus it is a real conversation starter. I plan to buy more and send them as gifts during Christmas.

Simple products. It works for me. . Based on other reviews, there's not a whole lot new to say about the particular Levitron I ordered, so I'll just give highlights that were influencial to my review.Bad news first. As soon as I open up the package, I noticed a couple of small scratches on the mirror surface despite the protective layer that you have to peel off. Not only that, but the globe was magnetically stuck to the stage, which took some moderate force to separate. That's when I discovered this globe is not nearly as sturdy as it looks. The hemispheres came apart while trying to separate the magnets, and the first thing I notice was that the little plastic hex skeleton is broken off of the middle, and cannot be fixed. I thought to myself "oh crap, I just ruined it."Now the good news. I'm not sure what purpose that flat hex skeleton serves, but very fortunately, the product seems to work just fine without it. After all, it's just plastic. On my first attempt, I got the globe working in about a minute. I have taken the platform out and was able to levitate it, and I was also able to levitate it while attached to the globe. All the LED lights work, it levitates, and it rotates. It does what it was designed to do, and I am very pleased with how it looks. It makes for some great decor!I would recommend this product. Please note that you do have to be EXTREMELY careful when handling the globe, especially with the magnet in it. The globe is easily crushed (or otherwise deformed) if you squeeze it just a little too hard, and it also comes apart really easy. I love the product, but it's not built quite as sturdy as I would have hoped. Enough for me to bring the overall rating down by 1 star. I think it's fair.Bill

Ant farm great for little ones . This ant farm was a lot of fun for my 6 year old. He was fascinated by the tunnels the ants made.The included light made the tunnels seem to glow in the dark when turned on so this could be used as a nightlight. I would however reccomend you buy the ants at the same time as the ant farm because this ships super fast. Do not try to catch the ants yourself because they will not be of adequate size to make the tunnels. The gel is too sticky for smaller varieties of ants. One thing I really liked is that it was not difficult for me to open but was too dificult to open for him so he could not release the ants all over the house. Overall a great toy and durable enough for preschoolers.

great gift . Ordered this for my six year old nephew for Christmas. He also got an ipodtouch, however; he said the ant farm was his best present. Awesome!

Fun Educational and Great-Looking . This ant farm turned out to be a lot smaller than I thought, and the nature of the gel sometimes makes it a little hard to see the ants as they tunnel. However, it is very, very cool. The ants start digging right away, and it's very entertaining to watch the tunnels grow, spread and connect. Once the ants create tunnels, the farm begins to look like a modern art piece. The backlighting of the gel gives it a very cool effect, and the light sparkles as the ants move in their tunnels. I bought the farm for my husband, but my kids are absolutely fascinated by it, and it has made them curious about ants. It's a little pricey, but it was probably one of the most-enjoyed gifts this Christmas, and it was fun for all of us.

Great in a 1st grade classroom loved by everyone Kinder - 5th!!! . We bought this for a first grade class - a lesson on communities - and we just used a few ants that we (the adults) caught in a field. Within the first 24 hours there were significant changes. The kids loved to go see what the ants were doing. We even had frequent visits from students in various grade levels - more & more kiddos each day wanted to see the changes!!! It is secure, so no ants can escape; it is lighted, so it can always be viewed; it can be rinsed out & reused when the ants die!!

2 yr old not impressed . Maybe she was just too young, but she didn't find the ants interesting at all. It's very small, be forewarned. Smaller than a magazine cover.

My husband and I liked the light, but my daughter preferred it with the light off. I did like that she couldn't get the ants out.

We got some carpenter ants from outside, and though they did eventually dig tunnels, they, um, got too cold in our house and huddled near the light.

Amazing idea & very happy so far but don't buy it for a kid... . PLUS: Excellent city light detail. For example, for Egypt there's a line of light along the Nile where the population is centered. Also, the difference between the almost solid light of South Korea versus total darkness for the North is starkly depicted. Quiet initial operation, started hearing gear vibration and took it down to look at, then put it back and it went away. Draws just over 4 watts.

MINUS: Sits on a mirrored-top plastic base not at earth's angle, unlike every other desktop globe out there, though this is to some extent necessary for the rotation. Oceans are the same shade of blue as school and library globes, in the daytime the color and detailing are below average for most globes. The picture of the continents glowing is a trick of the lighting in the shot. The US is yellow and Canada pink like the photo, but don't glow at all. City lights barely visible in daylight. NO UL LISTING! Impossible to repair, I unscrewed the three screwed-on rubber stoppers from the base, but the bottom is sealed to the base. No on/off switch, which is likely one reason for the lack of U/L certification. Opened the box and there were no instructions/warnings/warranty, nothing but the globe itself and packaging.

That said, in the dark it looks great, and if it holds up without getting unacceptable loud I'll be very satisfied. So far so good six weeks in...

Cons Review

Don't be fooled by pictures... . Always being somewhat fascinated by the look of the Earth from outer space I thought this globe was a pretty unique idea. Unfortunately, the marketing imagery differs so much from what you actually get it's pretty startling. I had assumed there would be small, individual beams of light emanating from the globe, almost like pinholes. Instead, the printing on the globe simply allows for some areas of the map to shine brighter than others when the device is plugged in. Further still, the globe is so thin you can see shadows of the inner-workings of the motor moving around on the surface all the time.

If it weren't for the price I might be a little bit more generous with the stars but this was a very disappointing purchase.

Disappointing globe . I cannot imagine anyone not being disappointed with this globe. As mentioned by another, it does not look anything like the picture. In fact, when I took it out of the box I thought I was sent the wrong globe. It is actually quite cheap looking; and while it looks interesting when lit in the dark, it is mostly seen in the light.Mine also makes a lot of noise. I can hear it turning from the next room. I finally unplugged it when I could hear it over my CD player. I am assuming mine is defective. Perhaps it was returned before for the same reason; it was obvious it was not new.A final irritation is that light can be seen through the equatorial seam.

Good but not great . This thing is fun, but not quite as efficient as I'd hoped. You need a good, strong light (incandescent, not fluorescent) to get it to spin the prop fast enough to get moving. It's reasonably well finished, and easy to put together. Balancing was fussy; you have to get it balanced pretty well to avoid friction. Easy enough once you get the hang of it.It will NOT run under normal office lighting, it needs a desk lamp or other light source to get it going. Direct full sunlight works well, but how many have an office window? Cloudy skies makes it slow and stop.Kids all seemed to like it, and were fascinated by the fact that it runs on solar. Most were disappointed I couldn't make it go faster, though.

Educational toys are the best! . This is an amazing toy for young and old! As a parent, these are the toys to get to stimulate your child's interest in Math and Science! I am purchasing a second for myself since both the kid and adult in me still appreciates the simpleness in design and the outstanding and brilliant creativity of science meets play! I am just amazed that there are not enough similar toys out there available for our childrenThe only down side is that of the three that I purchased through Amazon, the first two had some degree of defect. In the first box, I found the propeller slightly bent and one of the pieces that was meant to have a post pushed through it was not allowing the piece to go through. I had to use some tools to widen the hole so the post could slide on through. Also, it seems the contents had moved around quite considerably during shipping. I was able to fix it myself and once I did, it was an amazing toy to watch!

The second box was in worst condition. The propeller was found in two pieces, it is made of cheap plastic and I think all the movements of nearby pieces in the box during shipping allowed the contents to cause some injury to the propeller piece. The item was returned to Amazon.The Solar Flier IS durable once it is pieced together, I believe the problem was with the shipping. Each individual piece is of heavy metal except for the propeller and that was the weak link in all of this. My suggestion is that you suggest to the vendor to ensure the pieces are secured down prior to shipping, even if it means he needs to add tape to the contents.Overall it is an AWESOME item and barring any further problems like I had mentioned, I would continue to purchase this item for other kids in my family!!

I'll let you in on some secrets . Ok, first of all, if you're interested in owning and raising mantids, this isn't necessarily the best place to start. If you don't already know, this product comes with the housing, a pipette, a pair of forceps, and a magnifying glass. It comes with some very interesting information as well as suggestions on where you can order an ootheca (mantis egg sac), but that is a separate cost and when you receive that ooth after ordering depends entirely upon what time of year you order it because you're really relying on nature and mantids lay oothecae in approximately the third week of fall. Theoretically, based on the information provided with the kit, you could go find your own ootheca in nature and hatch it at home (that is, of course, if you want to have a couple hundred babies around to take care of). Sounds overwhelming for a beginner.
This container would be ideal for perhaps an adult mantis but not a nymph. Not only that, you can buy the same thing here:[...] although at ikea, it's for laundry. Ha!
Frankly, what I suggest instead is going to two websites: mantisplace.com and mantidforum.net. Between those two, you can acquire all the knowledge you need to raise a mantis with the Appropriate materials, which, for a nymph will probably involve a simple plastic container you can buy at the grocery store.. Not only that, you can also choose between a multitude of amazing species!

READ BEFORE BUYING - BUYER BEWARE!! . The reviews for this item aren't the same as the product itself. This is a cool kit and the enclosed materials are really well done. However, it doesn't say that the praying mantis eggs aren't included with the kit. I totally understand that the eggs can't be packaged with the kit since they are alive. What I wasn't expecting was to have to pay another $12.95 to get the eggs. What I really wasn't expecting is that the eggs are only available January-April. So, my daughter spent several weeks of saved allowance on this kit only to find out that she can't do anything with it for 5 months. Really disappointed that this wasn't explained before they relieved an 8 year old of her allowance.

Great house for any insect . This is the habitat only, (as stated, you must send in the coupon for the insect(s) plus shipping. If you are ordering this for the praying mantis, make sure you order by April, so you can get the egg cases sent to you before they are out of stock). This is well made and easy enough for a 5 year old to get in and out of to take care of the praying mantis. Its nice because it has a zipper at the top for smaller opening. It has handles to hang as well. The screen is small enough to allow oxygen in and keeps the insects inside nicely. Great for educational learning about nature and other creatures. This can be used over and over again for other purposes as well.

great educational toy and slightly better than other choices . I actually liked this version of the butterfly kit more than competitors because it's better made and has all those little things like tweezers, magnifying glass, etc. and a very educational booklet. Although it costs a little to send for the caterpillars, why bother when it's so easy to find caterpillars! (searching for the caterpillars adds another level of education because you need to think of their natural habitats). Enjoy!

Great idea - Extra $ to buy caterpillars . I bought this and the Butterfly Pavilion for about the same price. This kit you need to buy the caterpillars separately for $10. It doesn't say that on the write up and I swear it said caterpillars included when I bought this a few weeks ago or I wouldn't have bought it b/c I was looking specifically for one that includes the cost of the caterpillars.

If you are choosing between the two, go for the Butterfly Pavilion that includes the caterpillars in the cost of the kit. (be careful - there are two of those too - one doesn't include the price of the caterpillars).
Overall, the idea is great - my son did the butterfly pavilion last year and LOVED it. I would not get this one as a gift b/c there are extra costs, unless you send away for the caterpillars for them.
It has a nice instruction book in several languages.

Fun Effective Habitat for Critters . This habitat works well for praying mantises as well as caterpillars/butterflies, or any other little creepy crawly your kids manage to find. The nylon mesh on the sides makes it easy for the critters to crawl up the sides. The clear plastic top makes it easy for little ones to observe the activity inside. I had some mantises in a plastic bucket and they aren't as happy as the ones in this habitat.

How to hatch . I bought another version of this, maybe different company, but the house/cage looks the same. Unfortunately we too bought it off season, in May and had to wait almost a year to order an eggsack and had to pay extra. However, once we got one after a few weeks we had HUNDREDS of mantis! We let them go outside within a few days, otherwise you have to find small bugs (like aphids) to feed them and they still eat each other. We tried to keep one, but it disappeared. We assumed it somehow got out (they are only about an inch long). We hoped we would see lots in our yard over the summer, but we think we let them go too early in the season. I would recommend once you get the eggsack keep it outside so that they hatch when they normally would in your climate.

Sad but true . I would have to say this mantis kit was a true disappointment!!!! I would not recommend this product!!! The Kit imply's that the bugs come with it. Please understand I did not expect for the live bugs to be in the box, but I at least expected a mailer for the bugs to be included like the lady bug or butterfly kit. Instead we extremely disappointed to find a mailer to purchase the bugs for and additional $12 for a total. My grand total for this purchase was $30. Its sad the company sells a "pop up"bug hut that retails for around $8 bucks and purchased bugs for $10 at my local garden center for a grand total of $18. This is not worth the price.

Awesome Product . After reading several reviews I bought this for my 9 year old nephew for Christmas. He loved it! In fact, the whole family loved it. It was a very popular item in the house and sat in the front room so everyone could see it when they first came in. I ordered the ants in time for Christmas so I could give him the whole thing together. Assembly was quick and easy. You just have to poke 4 holes in the gel, put the ants in, and enjoy! The ants started working immediately and made some awesome tunnels. My nephew (and his mom) was so impressed that pictures of the tunnels even made it on facebook (and I was tagged in them... since I was the awesome aunt who gave him this cool product). The tunnels were very visible since the gel is light blue and you can even see the ants carrying the gel to the top. Overall this product was a huge success and EVERYONE loved it. You can't go wrong with this product.. I kind of want to buy one for myself...

Family Hit . We ordered this for our 8 year old son but our 13 and 16 year old sons are completely amazed at this product. The blue gel works great...stable and requires no food and is semi transparent so you can see the ants very well. It's great to see two teen avers fascinated by something that isn't electronic. They now all want the same ant farm so they can compare digging patterns of the ants. a number of years ago we ordered one with dirt but did not work nearly as well. It seems as though the trick is to have the jell that comes in the Antworks.

This is a surprising hit in our house. What a great educational toy. One I would advise for anyone. Oh...I would advise ordering the ants from the company suggested in the manual. [...] and free shipping. Great deal.

beautiful at night. gorgeous globe . I bought this for my older son (23) who has always had an interest in Astronomy. Plug it in. This globe is very sturdy, well made, and is very attractive. It makes a wonderful night light, and comes on automatically when the room darkens. My son rated it five-stars. Our other son wants one now too. They only negative commet my son had was it was a bit smaller than what he thought it was going to be. I think it's just fine and doesn't take up too much room. Perfect for nightstand or desk. Very cool.

Love the creation hate the quality . The product is good overall. I especially love the make-up of the countries, the details are clear and readable. I can learn greatly from it. It's alive! . I read the first review and was put off but after having one for a month and loving every bit of it I have to tell everyone this tank is NOT big enough for Goldfish but it is PERFECT for Guppies and other small fish. When buying my fish it was easy enough to ask the man at the pet shop what would thrive in such a small habitat. I was given several fish that would work but this Guppy caught my eye, since then he's been my desk buddy. He is happy as can be and I have no complaints. It adds life to my otherwise sterile lifeless desk.

Bottom line: I love it! (don't use goldfish dummy)

Good but not perfect. . The first one I received had a leak at the base of the water spicket where the water goes back into the tank. It got water all in the accessory holder side and it leaked onto my desk. These things happen. The replacement works well enough but it has a flaw as well, but not worth me making a second return. The temperature gauge is wrong. It claims it is 81.5 degrees. I don't know if it's supposed to be outside temp or water temp, but either way that is impossible. It is 70 degrees in my house and there is no heater in the tank. It is out of the sunlight and the water is cool. I also expected the screen backlight to be on like in the picture, but it only comes on if you're changing settings.
The USB cord is ridiculously short. I needed an extension usb cable.

This is a neat little tank, however. It is good for one small fish, like a guppy, tetra, or glofish. It is NOT good for a goldfish or a better. It is too small, plus goldfish are really dirty fish, especially for a tank without good filtration.

Nice with a little modification. . This is a very nice looking little tank, I have had mine for about a month and it is still going strong. I have 2 ghost shrimp and a mystery snail housed in mine. I would not recommend putting anything much bigger in there. You might be able to get away with a couple small tetras or guppies tho.
It is a very small tank, so do not expect to house a goldfish or beta humanely in this.(as the above ranter mentioned goldfish need way more space and are really dirty fish so need a powerful filter) Their is no actual filtration on this tank when it arrives , so my water began to get a bit cloudy after a week. I added a bit of activated charcoal and a biosponge underneath the plastic grate that holds the gravel off of the pump so that the water has to be pulled through that before it is pumped back to the top and my water has been crystal clear since. I also cut a small square of black plastic mesh to make a little lid for this so my critters could not escape, and to keep my cats from drinking the water.

Terribly low quality product . This is marketed as a desktop aquarium, but actually it is just a toy. The quality is terrible, the material used for this product is very cheap. And it is very small.
The pump does not work, I can't even imagine putting two guppies in it. I just returned yesterday. But for returning, it costs me a lot too. I have to pay shipping when I purchase,
which cost about 4-5 dollars, and when I return, it costs me another 9.5 dollars for the postage (cheapest from post-office). I spent about 15 dollar just to know this is a garbage.
So please think twice before you place the order.

junk . i purchased this for my grandkids for christmas. looked like a nice item but the aerator only lasted two days. other than that it's fine.

Desktop tank . The tank looks amazing on my desk and it brings great conversation arround the office. Many have come by and complemented me on it.

Not Really a toy . My only complaint is I wish it had a USB hub built in, otherwise it works wonderfully. And it is the perfect size for just one or two fish

Ended up only as a fish tank. . At first I was using it as a clock but an alarm kept going off forcing me to remove the batteries then the cable for the filter and light went bad. After one month it still houses a betta fish that loves the tank but I plan on upgrading to a larger tank in the near future.

Neat Aquarium But Forget the Rest . I bought two of these aquariums. They both had the same problem; after a few days, the time/date/day display quit working and with the second one, the nature sounds came on all by themselves and could not be turned off or changed. The batteries had to be removed to stop the sound of crickets invading my house. The aquarium section seems to work fine and my little crowntail betta loves it. But I am sending it back and will not reorder another one - once bitten, twice shy. Amazon is great at accepting returns within 30 days, no questions asked and they even schedule the UPS pickup for me. Bottom line - don't waste your money. Use a betta vase instead. Having the betta next to the computer to watch is quite soothing.

Cute Fun and Colorful! . I've had this product for a couple days now, everything came as said nothing was broken or not working. The tank part was indeed small, but it is surprisingly roomy for my veiltail beta fish. One thing I have noticed is that the thermostat seems fairly accurate about the water temp, but when I checked it with another thermometer it does tend to be off by a few degrees. The filter, though mild, does do a good job of cycling the water. Its strong enough to keep the water pretty clean, but mild enough not to stir up my little fish.All in all a great little aquarium for apartment dwellers or anyone that would like to add some color to their space.

Stopped working??? . I got this toy for my kid, and he loved it. After a day, it just stopped working. The magnetic output is the same when unplugged as when plugged, so something is wrong with the coverter. Unplugged, it just won't levitate. There is NO support and no way to fix it, apparently, or at least I haven't found it.

I think this is great idea, but if it isn't going to be durable they shouldn't sell it. Or, if the unit overheats as a reviewer noted above, have a trip switch inside it. Also, a help line would be nice. For an $80 toy (or "novelty item", whatever) there should be some recourse.

I am still trying to get a new one, if they send me one I'll change this review but for now avoid if you don't want heartache.

Globe review . Standard platic item. Magnet is strong. Works as described. Nothing fancy. It's not cheap looking or expensive looking. Just PAR for the course of plastic gadgets. It does look nice just sitting there spinning and floating. Seperatly the globe itself is a cheap plastic ball with a sticker on it that is split in two halves so a metal can be put inside.

It would be nice to see a higher quality globe so when someone takes it off the levitating pad they don't immediatley think this is a cheap plastic globe

The Levitron Ion is Great. . This levitron "Ion" version is a Great Toy.

As stated in the directions, it is a little trickey to get it to levitate, but once levitating, it is relatively stable.

The directions do not mention rotating. It will not necessarilly start rotating by itself, so you need to very gently give it a start, and then after a few minutes, it continues to rotate very smoothly at about 6 RPM. I was able to get it to rotate in either direction.

I highly recommend the Levitron Ion.

Improvement over the Levitron AG Globe . This globe auto-rotates, while the Levitron AG doesn't move. It makes it much more interesting to watch, even though it rotates in the opposite direction of the earth (as well as most other stellar bodies). 12-11-09 Update: Unfortunately, it's far from perfect. After several hours of operation, the unit overheats and the globe slams down. The last time the globe slammed into it's base, the globe broke. So, it's more of a parlor trick than something you can let run continuously. The levitation height is only about 1/4" and the casual viewer cannot even tell that the 4" globe is levitated. Magnetic globe levitation can work one of two ways. Either electromagnetically modulated opposite magnet poles are supporting the globe from the top and counter balanced by gravity; or, like magnet poles are repelled and electromagnetically stabilized from below. For an easy understanding of why this unit is problematic, imagine holding a pencil between two fingers, by the eraser, and letting it hang down. Easy right? Now, imagine balancing that pencil in the palm of your hand, pointing straight up, and trying to, continuously, balance it. Bottom line, until a unit comes on the market that can levitate an object from below, to a height of at least 2 inches and remain turned on continuously, I say, save your money.
