Another winner. . So far, I've loved this entire series. The thing to keep very much in mind is that the 4D vision products, including the scorpion, are puzzles before they are models, and they can be difficult to put together. Frankly, I never quite got part of the tail or one claw just right with this one. The pieces could have been made with a better eye toward fitting easily together so the puzzle is more related to understanding anatomy and less to finding ways to fit tricky knobby parts in equally tricky slots or holes. But I'm still enthusiastic about this scorpion and the other organisms in this series because I'm unaware of products that made the anatomical aspect of biology more fun.

Excellent for the price . Ok, this is my second try in leaving a review so I will be brief.
This model is made of durable materials, it is detalied and painted in vivid colors. The nucleus has a plexiglass window and all fits well so it can be assembled and displayed on its base. Has a nice translucid finish and the booklet explains briefly the functions of the parts. I recommend it for display, as a puzzle and as an educational model.

Poor Quality Toy . Toy did not fit together well at all. It was difficult to assemble and I eventually had to hold it together with rubberbands.

Cons Review

Some good some bad . I brought this model for my child in 4th grade, who is very interested in cells. The cell and the internal parts are by itself colorful, decently sized objects made of quality materials. But the transparent cover for the model is not designed right, and it takes much effort from an adult to put the cover on the model and shut it. The mounting is of poor quality and the model fell of the pedestal after a few days since the small beam that holds the heavy cell onto the pedestal got frayed at the edges. All this happened within a week of us having the model.

We used the model gently, in spite of which it is only partially usable now. I have mixed opinions about it, and I strongly believe that every component in a model should be of good quality, since you will be unable to assemble it and mount it, thanks to a couple of inferior parts.

Cellulariffic!! . Agree with everything the reviewer on Feb 2011 stated. The best thing about it is the ability to take out the individual parts and put them back in like a puzzle, which seems to aid in familiarization of the pieces and where they are located. The organelle pieces are made of somewhat hard plastic mounted in the soft plastic (cytoplasm) which seems for the most part to hold to the pieces well, except for a couple of peroxisome which seem to only stay when they are put in a specific designated spot for them. The colors are very good although I have become accustom to seeing mitochondria as green not red as they appear in the model. Definitely recommend. I will now be looking into purchasing other models manufactured by 4D Master.

Too small comes apart (-) Inexpensive (+) . So science education models are traditionally wickedly overpriced, but often larger than life and helpful to understanding. This model is small (I'm guessing like the ear of a child), but it is so reasonable compared to larger more helpful models costing hundreds. Why can't someone make a quality model big enough to be more educationally helpful, and not charge outrageous prices for a piece of rubber-like plastic. This company ALMOST has it right.... make it 2X-3x the size for around $20-25 and you would not only help kids understand this stuff better, but also get a mess of teachers buying the models as budgets are being crunched. Too small for demos in class as is and might get taken apart by the mischievous. For a single student to have for their studies.. okay.

used for Anatomy and physiology class . I used this to study for my college A&P class. I got an A in the class, so it helped. The model is small, but good for its price. Putting it together was a little difficult because some of the pieces are a little tight. Once it's together it doesn't fall apart, so I was okay with that. I wouldn't recommend it for a kid, or as an entertaining puzle, but I do recommend it as a study aid.

Taking your chances . After purchasing the Tedco 4D Science ANIMAL Cell module, I was very impressed and quickly purchased this module as well. I found that this module used a lesser quality plastic in making the organelle pieces and the pieces do not fit as snugly as the do with the animal cell model. I attribute this to probably a bad batch number which was made with cheaper material than was made with the other model. So you take your chance as to which Lot number you will get. Also The clear plastic cover which fits very snug on my Animal Cell version does not fit well on this one, in fact I have thrown the cover off as it is just to much of an issue with it falling off all the time.

Disappointed . I wanted to like this, I really did. It is very attractive and the pieces seem durable. The problem is that the pieces do not fit together well, particularly the outer wall. Neither me nor my kids (teenagers) were strong enough to snap the pieces together. They did ultimately fit when "dad" snapped them together, but that sort of defeats the purpose of an educational toy. Also, the window would not stay in place at all. The inside pieces kept falling out of place when the model was placed on its stand. I was very disappointed, as I had planned to purchase several of these for my homeschool biology classes.

Cons Review

great teaching tool . This model, like the animal cell model made by the same company, just rocks. It's a 3D puzzle-type thing, the organelles are removable. You can see everything clearly and the accompanying guide is excellent, if worded a bit strangely. You can tell whoever translated it was not a native English speaker. Makes for some very odd phrases but it's still very understandable and the illustrations are marvelous. The guide along with the model are fantastic tools for teaching the parts of the cell to a small group of students. You can't make much use of a single one of these in front of twenty students, they would never be able to see it. But for a few to work with at once it's great. A drawback is that with a small amount of shaking the organelles can fall out and they are very small. Could lead to losing a piece. So you have to watch these things carefully.

Great visual for teaching about cells . I purchased this as an educational tool and am very pleased with it. It arrived on time and in the advertised condition. I've very pleased.

Fantastic little puzzle/model of an absurd marvelous bit of anatomy. . I'm sorry, but is there anything goofier in all of biology than the human reproductive system? Both male and femal, but for sheer absurdity, it's hard to beat the male's dangly bits. Yet there is something undeniably fascinating about the whole arrangement, and this model (important note: It's a puzzle before it becomes a model) captures both the silliness and wonder of boy genitals.

The completed model is supposed to be half-scale--a putative ratio that I think some men might find dispiriting--and is complete with kidneys, bladder, testis, Cowper's gland, prostrate, some veins and arteries, and of course the star of our little show--the penis, helpfully shown in cutaway to expose the intricate interplay of spongy chambers and so forth. Oh, and there's even a giant sperm that gets its own little stand to the right of the anatomy model.

I noted earlier that this is a puzzle first, a fact emphasized by the lack of instructions on how to put it together. To me this is a plus, because I enjoy trying to better understand the way the parts relate to and interlock with each other, but I can easily imagine it being a source of considerable frustration. It's not always easy to infer, even with the provided photos of completed models, how the parts snap and press together.

Another thing I consider a benefit that many people might consider a bug is the written informational folder that comes with the kit...one of those very badly translated from Chines to English affairs that is unintentionally hilarious. Anyone wanting information about male reproduction will find no dearth of it on the Internet, but where can you find an uproarious explanation of why "the man have two testis and not one"? Priceless.

And lest I imply that this is MERELY a fun puzzle and model, it definitely could be helpful in sex ed or health context.

Finally, let me commend this entire series of models to anyone who enjoys the life sciences. I wrote a previous review about the Tedco 4D Vision Woolly Mammoth Anatomy Model, giving it very high marks, and I also have the animal cell model, and all I can say is, to a biology geek like me, these things are pure joy. Male reproduction might seem like a strange choice for the third one in the series for me to get--but that's just why I got it. I love being given a bizarre choice. Thanks, Tedco!

Better Than I Had Hoped For . I had been looking around for a large scale model of the Saturn V rocket since taking a day trip to the Air and Space Museum out at Dulles Airport. Initially, all the models I came across online were single piece wooden models that were only about a foot and half tall and not very detailed. A week into searching, I came across the 4D model. Had to wait almost 2 months for them to come back in stock, but WOW was it worth the weight. Dont let the piece count fool you, it went together in about 2 hours with only minor assembly issues. Despite what the instructions say, you WILL need a little styrene glue for some of the smaller pieces that arent meant to come off, especially the little red pieces that attach to the stage 1 engines. Beyond that, it went together like a dream. And the size....I know it says 43 inches on the box, but that doesnt really prepare you for the magnitude of the thing once its together. And whats best is that the transparent panels are only on one side, so if you just want to see the solid rocket, just rotate it around. Well worth the price and the wait.
