Simple elegant believable . I looked into the levitating globes and chose this instead. It doesn't levitate, but its slow rotation, without batteries, is soothing and fascinating. It just keeps spinning with no intervention...just like the real Earth! It is too small to use as a reference globe, but it is a fine size for a desk ornament. It takes some thinking to figure out how it could possibly work, thus it makes a good conversation piece.
I liked mine so much that I ordered one as a Christmas gift for a tech-savvy friend. He appreciated his as much as I did mine.

Quality could be better . I was amazed when I first saw one of these a year ago. The clear outer shell was invisible making it look like it was floating in air. I bought one for a gift and I can plainly see the seam between the two halves of the outer shell. If I line the seam up with the equator it is less noticeable. Without the seam this would definitely get five stars.

A Truly Nifty Gadget . There's really not much to say about the MOVA Globe other than that it delivers as advertised. The globe mysteriously appears to spin around on its stand like a self-sustaining perpetual motion machine. The speed and look of the motion is pretty cool, too, reminding me a bit of how the "real" world revolves--smooth and steady.

I have this on my desk at work, and people who visit often ask about it, so it's a good little conversation starter. It's also useful for just staring at while pondering something. It's kind of calming in a way.

Both the globe and stand are solid and seemingly well built, living up to their pricey nature.

The verdict: worth it if you can afford it and if you like "nifty cool" toys/gadgets.

Personal Favorite . I purchased my globe on an after Christmas buying spree at Brookstone. Lots of stuff 50% off or better. I loved the Mova Globe from the moment I saw it. As mysterious as a Levitron without any setup required. The optical illusion of the liquid filling makes the globe appear to be turning directly on the support posts. Only when picked up and you see it moving in your hand do you conclude it must be inside a clear plastic shell. Sure you can assume some form of solar power. But how does it "push" against something? Who would imagine the Earth's own magnetic field? Think of it as a giant liquid filled compass with a solar powered drive hidden inside. An incredible layering of "magic" tricks.

The only downside is I'm worried about their quality control. I'm a _very_ fussy buyer. (OCD as a hobby) I checked the boxed globe I bought before leaving the store. It appeared to have a slight "orange peel" appearance to the surface of the globe. Perhaps the liquid lining wasn't evenly wetting the surface of the interior globe. The effect was a slightly "shiny" appearance occurring at a somewhat regular patern on the globe. Only seen if you look at it closely. But I'm picky. So I asked to see some other boxed globes. The next three had the same problem. But the globe on display was fine. So I took the display model. If closely examined I can find 2-3 scuffed areas and 2-3 tiny chipped spots. But acrylic I can always repair when I find the time. So I hope a great product doesn't get into trouble with manufacturing problems.

An extra secret. By bringing a high power rare earth magnet near, you can stop, and even reverse the globes direction of spin. (An inexpensive source is allelectronics.com. I happened to have a catalog #MAG-116 handy when the idea occurred to me. Generally figure price is proportional to strength, except for #MAG-111, a surplus from hard drives. #110 and 118 are even cheaper per power.) Conceal the magnet in your hand. If strong enough, you could even do it from under a table or some other out of sight more distant spot. Then ask friends if they can figure out what makes the globe turn. Just when they show any signs of figuring it out, make it reverse direction. As I said, this is the best toy since the Levitron. And it doesn't take practice to make it work. Only to make it work at your command.

Amazing Piece Until A Bubble Formed . Purchased mine back in July 2010 from a clothing retail store. 13 months later I notice the globe no longer spins on it's own. Upon closer inspection, a bubble had formed on top of the MOVA globe. According to the manual, a bubble can be caused by hot and humid environments. This wasn't the case because mine was in an office the whole time, it doesn't even see sunlight. The office temp is always between 72?F - 78?F. Called company for repair options and was given a repair charge equal to 80% of what I paid for it. I chose not to repair it. It's a paper weight for now.

Doesn't work forever. . Purchased mine on September 24, 2010, and by January 14, 2011 it had stopped working. It also developed a quarter sized air bubble at the top.

Loved it at first but it's too pricey for this short of a lifespan.

Would not recommend.

mova globe . This is the coolest little thing. It was a gift for my husband but I love watching it spin all on it's own. Whoever came up with this deserves some serious scoops!

nice decoration piece . This is a nice decoration piece but it is too small. I should have bought the bigger one so I could at lease see the countries.

Cool desk accessory . I had just seen this product in Hong Kong for over $400 USD which made
me hesitant to buy it there, so I was thrilled to find it on Amazon for $100. Actually received the antique beige color rather than the blue ocean which was fine
with me. The globe is an elegant and interesting desk accessory. The globe turns without any visible power or mechanical apparatus. I gave this one as a gift but I would like one for my own office.

Great Combination of aesthetics and technology . I first saw one of these in a gift shop in Laguna Beach, CA. Was immediately captivated and bought one. I liked it so much I bought another one on Amazon for a friend. It's a great combination of creative technology and nice aesthetics. No batteries--all you need is a little light and some of the earth's magnetic field. The thing looks almost magical as it rotates.

Very Nice! Quality item... . Very nice piece! Love almost everything about it. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is that it doesnt turn very fast at all under the light we have. If you shine a flashlight on it, you can see it turning, but with the natural light in the room during the day, and the lights on in the room at night, it doesnt move at all, or at least so slow, that its less than one revolution per day. Havent timed it yet. But this is not a deal-breaker for me - I can try to get a mini-light to shine near it one day.

Nice quality work, will be very nice for decades to come - and best of all, it doesnt go out of style.

Poor Quality . My globe didn't last 6 month. It developed an air bubble and stopped spinning. I don't recommend this product.

Disappointed . The globe worked great for a while, then it stopped spinning, Noticed a small air bubble had formed at the top, which means it must haved developed a small leak. The company did offer to replace the globe at a discounted price, but refused to swap for a new one...My advise keep your money, and if you own one good luck

Lovely Globe . Very attractive globe with a metal stand. The darker ocean makes the land areas contrast in a pleasing way. The globe I received wasn't current with the changes to Sudan and the creation of South Sudan.

You may think it's too soon to expect globes and maps to be available with the changes, but the very inexpensive, and lesser quality, fifteen dollar globe by the same manufacturer that is available at Target has the updated information.

Hopefully an updated version of this model will be available soon.

Beautiful Addition . This globe looks fantastic in our great room. It adds a unique touch to the room as it's not the standard globe.

Cons Review

Disappointed in this product . We bought this globe for my daughter as a Christmas present. We were very disappointed with the quality of the globe itself.
I do not speak to the correctness of the globe as after inspecting the quality I knew I would return it and never looked to the actual information it provided.
Where the two halves of the globe met, it was covered with a tacky scotch-tape looking substance that stuck out like a sore thumb. My husband went to undo it thinking maybe they did that for packing but he found that if he tried to lift it up, it would have torn part of the information away. You could also see several gouge-like scratches in the darker water areas. As the gobe was packaged well, these must have been made either in the warehouse or while being packaged.
And finally, at the top, there was actually a gouge deep enough that some of the chipboard was lifted up and showing.
This product ended up looking cheap and not worth the money we spent on it. Luckily we were able to return this before Christmas rather than disappointing my daughter with no gift at all.

Wow . I saw this at the office of my colleague and ordered one for myself right away. It spins when there is some light nearby. It is a wonderful conversation piece with company and I just love having it in my living room. I bought this for a friend for Christmas last year and she and her kids loved it.
