"Car is really cool but the rubber around the wheels comes off easily and stops it from working. That's not a big problem because if it comes off it's easy to put back on. I really like the car. Also it needs the sun to run. A flashlight isn't bright enough to make it go."

Well , when I just got it , I laughed , it's too small "size of a dime or so" , the only con is that it requires real direct SUN light to work, any other light won't do , the torque isn't suffecient to drive it over the smallest slope , but it's a nice educational TINY toy , that illustrates green energy concept.

Fun novelty . We ordered two of these, and one seems to move a little more smoothly than the other, not sure why. You need a VERY strong flashlight to get these moving. But if you have a flashlight with a very strong bulb they move well on flat surfaces. The rubber on the tires can get wonky but so far we've been able to pop it back on easily. They are teeny tiny, smaller than a postage stamp. They are a fun little novelty.

It works only with naturl lightsource . It does not work under artificial lightsources. To make its wheels move in this condition the solar panel must be non longer than 1iinch from the source. However, under bright sunshine, it works as expected. Take it into consideration before you buy it.

Wire's broke . The wires are not he best quality. My son only had it in his possession for about 5 minutes and it was over. The idea sounds better than what it is.

Wicked fast and tiny . I got this car for my husband for Christmas. It shot across the driveway so fast. He got a kick out of stopping it by making a shadow over it. Really tickled him (and me). Love it!

It's a blast to build... . I just finished building the Moon Walker II. I enjoyed every phase of the building. It walks well, although clumsily. I can't get it to respond to clapping or the light to come on. The explanation of where and how to set the orange dials that control that are very poor. As a toy to play with, it's not very entertaining. As a kit to build, it was a lot of fun. PS I am a 71-year-old grandma. No, I had no help with this. I plan to buy a more complicated one next.

Five year old (girl) loves it . Bought this for my youngest's fifth birthday, and she stayed up late assembling it *herself*. Ok, I read the directions to her, held stuff steady for her, and retightened some things when she wasn't looking, but still. Gears were a little off the first time, so we had to disassemble and reassemble a bit, but haven't had troubles since. She calls it 'StarWar' because it's like the robots in Star Wars.

We lost one part, a nut which was easily replaced with one I already had laying around, but they are *small*, so make sure you have a place to hold them and someone with small fingers to pick them up ;) Otherwise, great little kit for beginners, we will definitely be looking for more come Christmas!

OK but overpriced . Toy took about an hour to assemble.
Is OK but not really educational other than learning to follow assembly instructions.
Was too expensive for what it was.

Nice conversation piece but not fun to play with . My 8 year old son had no problems figuring out how to put this car together, but he did request help with the part that asks you to use a hammer to put the wheels on. He was despondent that it did not work right away. Did not work after putting it int he windowsill. Did not work at all. We've had it for a week, and have yet to see the wheels turn at all. It is winter in New England, but the skies are clear, so we sort of expected something, but got nothing. It is highly unlikely this car will work indoors for his science project, but he will be able to show kids what the solar cells look like, and discuss the problems of solar powered vehicles (cost, reliability, weight, etc).

tiny . This thing is really, really small. Matchbox car-sized, and that makes for sort of frustrating assembly as you mess with those little bitty parts. It also makes for a less impressive demonstration for the class. Works as advertised, I can't deny that. What they could do, if they want to avoid disapointing folks, is put a coin in the picture for an idea of the size of this little thing.

Awsome toy . I dissagree with the oter review i bought this and it has taken a beating.The only thing thats bad is that the solar plate will come off the sticky tape but its still a great toy i am going to get more.

solar seagull toy . Caution that this toy does need some patience to build. The instructions are good. It did take some time to sand and adjust the cams that lift the wings so the item would work properly and quietly. I would also use super glue to attach the wing material to the plastic pieces. The supplied double-faced tape was dried out. It is 3.25 inches beak tip to tail. It has run over 3 days now and seems to be holding up.
The novelty of the item makes it a keeper.

Tiny parts large problem . Tiny parts that need to interlock perfectly in order to make the wings flap make this a purchase I regret.

3 out of 4 work . This kit adds two 'leg' kits to the better value 'Jungle Robot' (a pretty great robot, also, shamefully, discontinued by OWI)

For the rediculous price difference, one should get something more than the two additional leg kits, one of which doesn't work.

The drivers that fit on the end of the output shaft are a weak spot. If any part of the legs jam it will likely break the driver's plastic socket as another noted. Be sure to remove any burrs on the drivers and the other associated circular links. They are timed to ensure that the burrs will contact each other, leading to a broken driver.

Great Gift . I gave this to my husband for Christmas, and he loved it! We assembled it together, which was fun. The assembly wasn't as hard as some people made it out to be. You just have to really pay attention when looking at the diagrams, and keep the pieces in their separate bags. The end result was amazing! It worked right away, no kinks. We love it!

put together . We put the robot together ok it ran good for about 10 min, then the shaft that holds the drive wheels had to much play and stripped the 1/2 moon area out, this is cheap and cannot be altered once its worn the part needs to be replaced. Being a new toy. I'm sure some kits are not going to do this while others will because of the walking action.

Robot . The robot was a little hard to put together. i don't think a 10 year old could do it.

Cool! . Bought a couple of these as stocking fillers. My boys loved them! Not sure how long they'll last as they seem quite flimsy and only seem to work when in very bright sunshine but they met our expectations and kept the boys entertained while we cooked on Christmas morning.

Not what I was expecting . I bought this with the intentions of buying six more to use in a basic robotics class. I wanted to put it together myself first. It is MUCH smaller than I thought it would be. I guess you get what you pay for.The movements can (and will) be used to demonstrate physics - moments, leverage, ratio, etc. but overall the arm is very limited. I will not be buying more of these. Some of the parts are very small and it's tedious to put together. I'm a mechanical engineer and it took me just under 3 hours - that's ok but I think kids would be disappointed (as I was) to spend that much time on something so limited in movement. There are NO spare parts so if you drop one of the little nuts then you're just stuck. (maybe you could call the manufacturer and order a new one if you wanted to wait that long).Overall, cute, teaches patience, teaches movements and other physics, but quite disappointing.

Fun for a little bit . I got my robot arm about 4 months ago. For the past 3 months it has just been sitting in the shed. I like making things that move and have motors and when i am testing a 120 volt motor i use the arm to actually make the connction because i made the claw completly eletrical proof. other then that it is not fun. It is to heavy to put on a remote control car and even then its not even remote control. There are better robot kits then this out there i recommend you dont waste your money on this one

Great Robot After Tweaking . This is a very nice robot kit with a wonderful IR controller. You can select any one of eight channels to operate on, so you could run eight different robots simultaneously. Never seen that anywhere else! The two drive gearboxes have 3 speeds that can be easily selected for different uses. The instructions are pretty clear, and all the parts are grouped in smaller bags that are used in order of assembly. No soldering, but there are lots of parts; don't mix them up. Dad should plan to help anyone under 13 years old.

My two complaints are:

1) Each plastic motor module has two press-in metal bushings that fall out unless you super-glue them in. They are supposed to be a one-time press-fit, but there's no way they will stay in by themselves. Use superglue BEFORE adding grease and avoid this problem altogether.
2) The clutches on the claw lifter and claw closer modules slip far too easily; you can't pick up anything interesting as delivered. I added a few small washers to compress the clutch springs fully and finally I can pick up a few ounces satisfactorily. It won't pick up a full soda can, so you'll still be walking to the kitchen for your drink.

After these mods, a great remote-controlled robot. Even in spite of that wonderfully odd name, Kabuto Mushi. How about Robot Claw Tank instead?

This is a great kit! . I was a little overwhelmed with the number of parts this kit contains, but quickly found that it was fairly easy to complete. OWI did a great job with this robot kit. It teaches about gears and ratios, motors and tread drive, as well as Infra Red. Once built, it's a strong little remote control toy that should offer hours of fun. In low gear, it plows its way over obstacles with surprising agility. The instructions might be a little clearer, but they more than suffice. Just read them through once before you actually start assembly and you'll be fine. If this is for a young person, adult supervision is advised due to the large number of parts. It's a great toy and a good addition to anyone's toy box.

Grown-up needed for construction . The instructions for a portion (right and left gear boxes) are difficult to understand. Some of the assembly requires strong hands for tapping screws. Very educational building project. . My 9 year old did a great job building this robot and following directions. We have one motor that needs a soldering iron to fix the connection because he pulled on something too hard but it works and we had fun building it.

Hard . This is not a kid build. The instructions leave much to be desired and you really can't test your construction until complete. Be prepared to tear it down and start over...

Great educational fun! . I have a few of the Robotikits and all of them are well made, come with decent instructions, and produce a fun and highly usable toy. Kids or adults will enjoy building this robot, and learn a bit about gears, motors and sensors at the same time. These kits are priced well and offer an excellent value.

Worth the price . I purchased this for my grand daughter for Christmas. We had a good time putting it together (it is a bit complicated) but she was fascinated by making it move by shining a flash light on the solar cell. Well worth the price for the benefit of building something with her.

Cons Review

Delicate to assemble solar panel doesn't work . This toy was very delicate to assemble and took an adult several hours to put together with a tiny screwdriver (which it doesn't indicate is needed anywhere and isn't included). Once put together the solar panel does not function unless held immediately and very closely under a light. While I bought this as a silly gift for my boyfriend (who loved the idea of it) and it was fun to assemble (mostly) it isn't the greatest toy and I definitely wouldn't recommend it for young children. I might have rated it higher if the solar panel had actually functioned since the rest of it was a fun design and idea.

The Crab is King . My 8 year old wanted this toy. She saved up her money. I was worried because there were a lot of little pieces. She needed some help with the tiny screws, but otherwise she was able to do this herself. It has held up to everything we've put it through, so far. It's been great to have hands on with solar power and one of it's drawbacks - shade.

Great item . My 11 year old, not only was able to build this in less than one total hour, but got it to work quite well. The instructions are very easy to follow, and could not be more clear. He had one little hiccup in the construction, by placing a gear the wrong direction, but he was easily able to correct it.

He has it running off of a 100 watt bulb currently, due to snow on the ground, but it is running quite fast. He is extremely eager to take it outside as he knows it will run like greased lightning.

Nephew loved it! . My 5yo nephew is extremely intelligent for his age, so toys marked for his age group bore him to tears. So I tried going a little higher up. He loves this toy!! Spends hours with his dad and brother playing it. When he can actually get it away from his dad! ;)
