Pretty cool stuff! . I'm 23 and I bought this for myself since I'm a huge dinosaur enthusiast, but I could see a child loving this thing. While digging wasn't as fun for me as I'm sure it would be for a child, the model that's hidden in the stone is pretty awesome and true to an actual velociraptor skeleton. I would say that an adult definitely needs to help his/her child to both uncover and assemble the skeleton, but the model is relatively sturdy and should hold up nicely against a child's curiosity. The skeleton looks ancient, too! Overall a neat model and experience that a child (or a 23-year-old!) can enjoy.

Hit at the birthday party! . We got this after I saw a home schooling blog post about it on Pioneer Woman. I was so impressed that when it came time to go to a birthday party for a 6 year old boy who likes dinosaurs I thought of this. Of all the toys he got this was the one he and the other kids kept coming up and asking if they could open right away. They saved it for later and apparently it was a lot of fun. The model looks very nice and sits displayed in their living room.

Pros:

Simulates a dinosaur excavation
You can put the pieces together to make a display model when done
Doesn't cost much at all
There are other models to do, too

Dinosaur Digging . My four grandkids love this product. I have bought several and they have a lot of fun with it.
Naturally, this is done outside. Do not attempt inside because there is a lot of debris given off by the scrapping to find the pieces.
They love it and have fun putting it together.

Cons Review

Triceratops is better . The title sums it up - these are cute toys for kids to chip out of a block of chalky plaster, but the triceratops version snaps together into a better toy. The T-Rex is poorly fitting and falls apart. Sure, with krazy glue (super glue doesn't hold as well given the tiny contact points...from experience borne of numerous attempts) it holds together better, but there are still gaps between the bones where the triceratops snapped together without glue and more tightly. I don't know that the kids care about the gaps, but even with the krazy glue, they don't play with this toy nearly as much as it's cousin because the legs are loose so it's constantly toppling over when they set it down. T-Rex is most kids superhero dinosaur, certainly the most popular, but this T-Rex disappoints.

Dino assembly . My son is almost 5. He LOVED digging this thing out of the plaster. (Yup, it's messy. But so are little boys) He LOVED assembling it. (Needed some help from mom) It lives on my couch and has to be greated when I enter the room. I would definately purchase again.

Geoworld Trex in review . I like this particular Tyrannosaurus Rex model because of several unique
features. First and foremost, its size. At three feet, its quite large. The
coloring of the simulated bones is fairly realistic. The model came in a box
which when opened had bags pre marked with numbers. An instruction sheet is
used to guide you on how to put the Trex together. My first impression of the model was "wow", but the wow soon turned into reality as I began the slow
and painstaking efforts to put Trex together. The product is geared towards
6 years old and up. However, it took me well over three hours to put Trex
together. A few of the pieces would not go together as well as others which
slowed the assembly process. Undeterred, I kept at it. While assembling one part, the other part would fall apart. This was minor, but for a child it may be a bit to much. I suggest adults take active part in this because the
assembly is far more difficult than advertised. However, once done, it was
worth all the wait. A stand, two metal rods, a nameplate and of course all
the various bones to make the Trex are what comes in the box. Also the
instructions. The appearance is very well done. The Trex skull is very
well done with all the cavities and teeth one might expect to find in a Trex
skull. The rib cage was a little difficult because the plastic used in this model, while durable is also prone to bending and staying in that position while still in the box. Many of the rib cage bones were bent and needed a little adjustment to get them just right. Again, no big deal. As for the rest
of the skeleton, it was difficult because again it seemed as though I needed
a third hand to complete the Rex. It really does go together much like a puzzle. Once completed it looks great and receives many compliments on size,
accuracy, realism. It may be tempting to use glue with this model. I highly
suggest you think that one over. Once glued that's that. There are alternative ways of dealing with the parts which fall apart while assembling
others. I used very fine wire and threaded it through the various bone
structures and more or less tied the bones together. Very fine black wire is
hard to see and will not detract in any way from the actual product once completed. Additionally it can be disassembled for transport or moving. I
think the model is beautiful, well made and well thought out. Was it difficult? Yes. However, one must have patience when working with these types of models. I have four Trex model skeletons. Of the four, this is my
favorite. it actually went together much like one in a museum. Its display is
also fairly real. Price was very low for a model this size. As far as children being marketed for this model. That's okay so long as an adult helps with the assembly. It is very hard to put together, but the wait, as I stated earlier, is well worth it. In terms of educational value, I give this
model 5 stars across the board. Any child wishing to have an accurate model
of a Trex skeleton will like this one the most. One other word of advice. I
don't consider this a toy, but it is a life like representation of a Trex
skeleton. I highly suggest once made it get displayed were you know it will not be touched by curious hands.

Fabulous Educational Project . My 4 & 5 year old worked on this fossil project for homeschool and they loved it! It took them several hours to excavate the fossil bones but they were so focused that it amazed me. They enjoyed this project from start to finish. Both of their fossils are now on display on top of the book shelf. Money well spent in my opinion.

Great toy for a budding paleontologist . Other than the plastic being a bit brittle and the head sitting at an awkward angle I have no complaints. Definitely not something for a kid that is rough with their toys though. If you get sick of digging the bits out of the block remember you can just soak it in water and the block will come off easier.
