This is pretty good! . This is a very fun kit. I have not used everything in it yet, but what I've used of it has been...interesting. I've learned that eggnog is slightly acidic - which is still confusing to me. Eggnog has none of the strong bitterness I associate with acidic beverages. Anyway, this is an awesome science kit(eggnog not included). I am highly satisfied with this purchase! I highly recommend this product to lovers of science!

Kids loved it! . I teach a small group of home schoolers aged 5-8 based on these kits and this kit was great! I loved hearing the "WOW's" from kids when we did some of these experiments (especially solar beads). I used 4 kits for 12 kids and they were able to share with few extras being purchased (from the grocery store). I combined it with the "Soaring Into Flight" kit for the semester. We did trivia on the last day and I was amazed at what their little minds absorbed!

The planets didn't stick to the play dough as well as expected, but we easily fixed that with toothpicks. Use very little water to paint the planets and glue your mobile if you want it to stay on the wires. This kit is very much worth the money even with these little bumps.

Magic School Bus Fun! . Awesome toy, but the clay that came in it was already dried out. So we are purchasing extra. Other than that, its great :)

Fun but flimsy . My 6-year old enjoyed the projects; however, the kit is pretty flimsy. The projects will last a week if we are lucky.

Not all that great . I had high hopes considering the name, but it fell short. It makes for a decent jumping off point, but the constellation project was a complete fail that served only to frustrate and there is a real lack of information and instruction overall. I wont be buying this name again.

Just okay . I was disappointed by the quality of this product. The first thing my son and I attempted to do was construct the solar system, but the paint was difficult to use on the styrofoam and the wire was hard to attach to the project. We tried another experiment with a flashlight and then something with identifying stars, which was nearly impossible. These were educational, but not enticing enough to keep his interest for more than a couple of hours. He gave it another attempt when he tried to assemble a telescope that did not want to cooperate. Nobody in our family was able to figure out the little cardboard telescope, there goes my husband's engineering career.

My nephew liked it! . I got this for my nephew who is interested in space and astronomy. He liked the hands on activities and I think he enjoyed learning a little more about the moon and the planets.

Not happy at all. . Bought for our daughter, we love the books and the video, but this "lab" is a major disappointment. Cheaply made with little educational value. It might be okay as a rainy day activity but not as a lesson for our homeschool.

good project for kid . Very educational product. You can't paint the provided foam globes to make different planets because paint doesn't stay on the globes.

Great educational but fun toy . My kids (5 & 7 1/2) really enjoyed this kit when we got it - fun but still educational. The Magic School Bus kits are all really great. I'd recommend them...

Fun educational and all supplies included. . Great kits. My children loved them and I only needed to supply some very common household items everything else was included. Getting three complete kits for this price is a great deal and hours of fun.

NOT a complete "ready to go" set . A great product, a fantastic learning experience. The only dissapointment I had was that I sat down with my son, who was VERY excited to get started and upon reading directions there are several "common household items" needed. None of which I had. The box states on the front 3 complete kits. As I looked at the box, there is indeed in small writing on the back "will need some household items". I just wish I had known ahead of time so I could have been more prepared for my son.
However, I am very much looking forward to doing these experiements once I can manage to obtain these "common household items" which are not common in my household.

Does NOT include all necessary materials! . I am very disappointed in receiving this kit! Really all you get are the instructions for the experiments (easily enough found in a book or on the Internet) and a few supplies. For example for the volcano, included is 2 sheets construction paper, pumice, magnifying glass, black paint and paint brush. You need to supply newspaper, top of a shoebox, 2 1/2 liter plastic bottles, flour, water, vinegar, red food coloring, baking soda, liquid dish detergent and tape! I don't think this kit helps much in making the volcano!!! Doesn't seem worth $30 to me...

Young Scientist Kit . Doing science doesn't get any easier than this! As a homeschooling mom I was looking for a way to make science interesting and educational at the same time. This kit does both. It was also a tremendous help to have supplies included in the kit.

Just add....nothing. It's all there! . What a great kit! I wanted to introduce my young daughter to science because, as a young kid, I was so daunted by the subject (and still am).

This kit makes every experiment easy. All the items you need are included, so there is no disappointment like there can be with other kits (ie: the time we got an experiment all set up only to discover we needed to provide our own borax. What the heck is borax?!).

Just open your chosen project's pouch and go. And each experiment only takes a few minutes to set up, perform and clean up, so it won't take up your whole afternoon.

It's a little pricey for the actual components, but for the stress-free, educational experience I get to provide for my child, it's totally worth the price.

Science Kit . The kit is easy to use and the supplies needed to make and learn from your science project is included. There are many topics to choose from.

Not entirely worth the money . The kit doesn't warn you you'll need quite a few extra supplies before starting, which seriously delayed the fun on Christmas morning. And the experiments are ones you can find pretty much anywhere online. My daughter had more fun creating her own experiments with the supplies provided than following the instructions. While I'm glad I purchased this to find out about it, I don't think I would purchase another of these kits.

Great kit ... but not great value for your money . My daughter (6) put this on her wishlist for Christmas and finally got it for her birthday. She loves it. It's educational and fun. But it is over priced. It's basically photocopied papers with a very cheap magnifying glass, cheap butterfly net, cheap binoculars, plaster mix and mesh. If the price is not a consideration, then go for it. She loves it and received it as a gift ... so we're all happy here. I would suggest you put in on your child's wishlist and have someone else overspend!

Good for a very young child who loves nature walks . While I agree with the review that said the contents were a bit cheap and cheesy, this was a Christmas gift for a three-year-old. Her mother had said she loved nature walks, and our granddaughter was delighted with it - wanted to go hunting bugs and butterflies immediately, in the snow. We can get her better binoculars, etc., when she's old enough to need and appreciate them. For a very young child who loves nature walks, this proved to be a great gift.

Great gift item for kids . Our 4-yr. old daughter got this kit as a birthday gift and has had a fantastic time doing the experiments with her dad. The pieces are well-labeled and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. They require a little parental guidance, but most can be started in a few minutes -- well within our daughter's attention span. She especially like picking apart the owl pellet and identifying the different mouse and mole bones. Growing brine shrimp also provided several weeks of entertainment as we saw the eggs hatch and grow. The kit also has suggestions for other experiments that use household items -- like dissolving an egg shell in vinegar. I highly recommend this kit to anyone who wants to give a child something more constructive, fun and educational than plopping him or her in front of the TV. And, I'm happy to say that it's actually fun for the adults too!

Extraordinary for budding geniuses . I have two young grandsons...one is rowdy and very athletic. The other is very cerebral and curious. This, obviously, is for the latter. He is intellectually stimulated by the components of this kit and, according to my daughter, both she and her son are fully enjoying it.

Cons Review

A real ripoff---returned the set immediately. . This was almost an empty box with some very simple experiments that can be done with household materials. There were some wire coils, foil, and not much else! There was no circuit board or any useful material. For a few dollars more and no shipping charge more we found a fine electrical set at Radio Shack.

One of the best kits on the market . My son loved this kit. It kept him busy for hours and he was very excited to display his end results. Great educational value

Our family love this series. Fun and great kits . This kit is great. Three complete kits that are completely hands-on. The children create everything from scratch. They make there own light switch from simple materials and by doing so they really get a good understanding of the topics. Booklets are very well written and designed. My children are excited to do all the sets in this series.

Nice simple science experiment kit with great information . I got this for my 4yr old daughter since she was learning about rainbows at her school. This is our second Magic School Bus Science Experiment Kit and she and I both love them. There is plenty of information for children within this particular kit for ages 4 up to 9 or 10? The kit itself is nice; but in comparing it to the other Magic School Bus kit on experimenting with germs, this one gets second place. The experiments in this particular kit are nice but I dont think they capture the child's attention as the other did. Some experiments are very short and not requiring much to do them. But, they are still good experiments and any child would enjoy participating in them. If you hadnt tried the other Magic School Bus kits then you would find this terrific. The kit is well made; quality accessories and the booklet that comes with it is just as informative as the Magic School Bus books themselves. Each book allows the child to form a hypothesis and keep a brief journal with space to write inside. Be sure to check them all out. We are glad we got this one.

The Magic School Bus: The Mysteries of Rainbows Reviews
cheap materials and uninteresting experiments . I bought this for my 4 year-old daughter who is obsessed with everything Magic School Bus as well as rainbows - seemed like a perfect combination. It was a disaster. Nothing worked well: the colored transparent plates didn't really combine well to make a new color, the flashlight died after 1 minute (really the bulb burned out before she could even use it), the "food coloring" is a horrible powder that gets everywhere, stains everything, and we never could get into a liquid enough form to be usable. There were no interesting experiments. I could come up with more interesting things that kids could do with colored sand (try adding store-bought food coloring to sand and mix it up) and cheap plastic colored film. I'm now hesitant to buy any of the other Magic School Bus Science Kits. This one is going in the trash even though I just bought it yesterday.

The Magic School Bus: The Mysteries of Rainbows Opinions
Lots of fun and educational . As I shop for more science kits this christmas, I just had to add a review for this kit when I saw someone gave it a 1 star. We gave this one to my then 5 yr old daughter 2 Christmases ago. She was fasinated with rainbows and colors, so it was a perfect fit. She loved it and even extended what she learned into her science fair project where she learned all about cameras and trying to take pictures of the spinning disks (shutter speed). Give it a try if you buy this kit. She especially loved making the colored disks and spinning them. The best was all the lopsided disks she made and she would try to predict all the colors of the rings. All of the experiments were educational on light spectrums. It was so much fun for her and is great for that say 4-6 yr old. As for durability, it's fine. It definitely holds up for repeating the experiments several times. For the price the quality is as expected.

Lots of Educational Fun! . I homeschool my 2nd grade & preschooler. We studied rainbows briefly in our science curriculum, and did one experiment, but they were asking more questions than I had the answers to. Always wanting to encourage their educational interests, I got online for supplemental information. Given that I also have a baby, and live in a small town without any kind of good store for things like this, I don't have tons of time to spend gathering lesson plans & random materials from various places. I ordered the Magic School Bus kit because it seemed the best of the light & color options available. We LOVE the Magic School Bus series and own nearly every single book; my daughter even had a Magic School Bus themed birthday party one year. However, because of the mixed reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Now that we've received the kit, I wanted to add my own two cents.The actual scientific materials that are included are probably things you could gather at an educational supply store and grocery store. Nothing too unusual or hard to find. Crayons, a blank CD, petri dish, eye dropper, color paddles, rainbow blasses, LED flashlight, food coloring, etc. However, having them all in the box provided is worth a significant amount to me, and me going out & purchasing the items I didn't already have at home would have cost me at least half the price of the kit. I absolutely love the booklet that comes with the items though. It's a full sheet of paper size, full color 20 page booklet that has Ms. Frizzle and all of the students featured in a very child friendly format. Each experiment begins with a question, hypothesis, method, and then a place for the child to write the results & conclusions. Complete with color drawings of the steps of the experiment too. This will make an amazing addition for her science notebook we are keeping for her portfolio. Overall, I feel like the kit is well worth the money. The full size color booklet was a definite great surprise, several of the science items we'll be able to reuse again, and most of the experiments can be done more than once. I'm planning on asking for other kits for the children for Christmas. I would higly recommend.

We love the Magic School Bus Kits . I am the father of 3 boys and they love the Magic School Bus books and show. This led to each of them asking for one of the kits on their birthdays and then all of them descending on the kits once they were opened. We love them and have had so much fun with them. They had a blast trying to decide what to "swab" to test for bacteria. It was one of the funnier things that they have done. My wife and I were laughing so hard (you can only imagine what 3 boys 6-11 would think was a good idea to test!!!!). As much as the shows and the books have gotten my kids excited about science and the natural world, these kits (the human body, the mystery of rainbows and the world of germs) have done even more. They love working on them. We think that these are a great family activity and would recommend them highly!!!

Quality Educational Fun Affordable and Appropriate . This product is excellent. I got it for my 4yr old daughter not sure what to expect. Made very very well. Well thought out product with creative experiments; not the typical non-applicable ones. The creative idea sided with it; The Magic School Bus was also a hit as my daughter loves those books. We tried all the experiments and they all worked flawlessly. She, even at 4, was able to do them on her own and even keep the log of daily changes. She is learning a lot and has a strong desire to do more of these. Making the petri dishes was even surprisingly easy for me. The tools and accessories that come with the kit are made well and the directions are very clear. The information that comes along in the creatively written booklet are also very developmentally appropriate for younger kids in the age range that the product specifies for. Gives lots of interesting info to go with each experiment. We will be buying more of these kits.

The Magic School Bus: The World of Germs Opinions
It's A Wild Ride Into the World of Germs! . This past year for first grade science I purchased three of the Magic School Bus Science Kits to use alongside the Magic School Bus books, chapter books and television episodes to teach science. At first my 7 y.o. balked at the idea of studying "germs" but when I combined this science kit with Bill Nye's "Big Book of Germs" we took a wild ride into the land of micro organisms which lasted for 4 weeks. I would highly recommend this product to parents/teachers to engage your students in the world of science.

Mediocre . Pretty average. Many of the experiments are things I have done myself with baby food jars and medicine droppers. The test tubes are very small, narrow. It's hard to stir and do anything other than exactly what is in the book. Directions to add 3 ml of sugar is not helpful when there is no measuring spoon or scale or whatever for measuring milliliters.

FYI Most of the experiments require several days to see results. Not exactly what my 7 year old had in mind.

Excellent Learning Tool . I teach a small group of home schoolers aged 5-8 based on these kits and this kit got rave reviews. Kids loved doing the "Cleanest Toes" experiment and we turned it into a contest. I used 4 kits for 12 kids and they were able to share with few extras being purchased (from the grocery store). I combined it with the "Journey Into the Human Body" kit for the semester. We watched "Inside Ralphie" which is about germs and the human body to tie it all together.

The only downside was that there aren't many experiments that produce immediate results. Most of them take an hour or days, considering you're growing germs. It wouldn't be fun for a child under 5. Note: don't prepare your agar until you need it. Germs are attracted to it and will cause it to be a gross surface before you even add your experiment to it.

Great educational gift . Bought this for my 7 year old nephew for Christmas. He LOVED it. Needs adult supervision. But a great thing to do together. Fun way to learn without feeling like you are shoving education down their throats. :)

Waste of Money . I have done 3 experiments from this kit so far and every single one was a flop. I even went to the store and bought new yeast because I thought maybe it was old but it didn't make any difference. I wish I could get my money back for this kit. It was a complete waste of time and money.

Dissapointed Dad . Bought as Xmas gift, experiments are well laid out and easy to understand. Our set had old yeast which led to failed experiments. It's hard to find a good science kit nowadays this one is average. This kit is fun but needs to have fresh materials to be fun for kids. Would not buy again.

Great idea but maybe try a different kit . This has been sitting on our shelf for about a year because it's a little more labor intensive on my part than I wanted it to be. For the recycling project they want you to make paper by blending used paper up in your kitchen blender. Sorry, but I don't want to wreck my blender to make a sheet of paper. Also, the kit does not contain very interesting items. There are a couple seeds and some dirt to plant them in, there is a ruler, and there are some magnets.

Great for Homeschoolers . I bought the first 3 series of these kits to help my son in science, as we homeschool. He is in third grade, and has already really covered some of this stuff, but this is a great tool to motivate him. He really enjoys using these science kits, and they come complete with everything you need to perform any experiments. He really enjoyed learning how to make paper, and now he has the materials to continue making paper whenever he wants to. He also loved the magnet experiments. I enjoyed the seeds, growing beans and wheat and learning how to graph on a chart, which coincided perfectly with math graphing. Anyway, with each kit you get 3 major "themes" and within each theme you get at least two experiments, sometimes many more. Therefore, if you use these kits regularly they will keep your little scientist very busy! I plan on buying each and every one of them, they arrived in a timely manner, they are packaged nicely in neat boxes, they include all the materials, along with a work packet for the child and a guide for the teacher/parent. They are worth the price.
