Snap Circuits are awesome! . We bought this to add to my 9-year-old son's Snap Circuits Jr. set. Wow, we thought the first set was fun but with this added kit it got even better! He can do this all on his own and has so much fun making things. So far his favorites have been the AM radio and the radio announcer. This keeps him entertained for hours. Although this kit is new he has had snap circuits for six months and he is still playing with them regularly. This is a GREAT toy for a kid interested in building or science. I LOVE THIS TOY!

Good toy for the science-minded . My seven year old son loved the Snap Circuit Jr that he received for Christmas; completed all the electronic experiments in just about 2 months. So it made sense to purchase the UC-30 Upgrade Kit SC-100 to SC-300 and see where his love of electronics would take him. He makes his own experiments now and still plays with both sets every few days. I worried that the pieces would break easily, but that seems to have been an unfounded concern. The storage trays make it easy to keep all the pieces together, although the cardboard boxes are really beat up. Next purchase: hard plastic carrying case.

Hit the jackpot with this present! . I have bought this for 5 of my 9 grandchildren, and they love it. It is educational, fun, and the directions are easy to follow.

Cool product . My boys got this upgrade for Christmas (6 and 8). It's a nice addition to the Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100 kit and I'm considering the next upgrade. If something goes wrong with your kit, Elenco has great customer service and you can order individual parts from their website.

His favorite toy! . I got the original SC-100 kit for my boyfriend's 7 year-old nephew for his birthday in October and everyone raved about it. Apparently, he would get caught "circuiting" under the blankets at night when he was supposed to be in bed. It seemed only natural to get him one of the additional kits for Christmas so I opted for the upgrade. I figured this would add a few more dimensions without pigeon-holing (as I was afraid the more specific kits might do) the experience.So far so good! He spent 3 hours on Christmas playing with his new circuits and I heard tales of robot battles and other fun. I also got the AC adapter so his parents didn't have to keep buying new batteries because apparently the circuits just tear through them. He told me his next step is to try to create a hole to the space-time continuum so at least he's got a good start.

Very Fun and Educational . We bought this kit for our 12 year old daughter and she has had many hours of enjoyment with it. This is an upgrade to the basic kit and lets her expand the projects of that kit. She has learned a lot and had a blast doing so! Highly recommend this!

Electronics - a snap!! . So glad that I came across snap circuits. I bought the original kit for my son last year and this upgrade for his 6th birthday. He can't wait to do these projects and can follow the easy directions and put them together himself. I just check that they are put together properly before he puts the batteries in. At 6 years old he knows more about electronics than most adults

Great fun and learning circuits . I bought this for my 10 yr daughter as a christmas gift and I have to say we both enjoyed working in the circuits. She loved it. Great toy . My six year old has loved his Snap Circuits 300 kit, so we got him this 300-500 upgrade. It's great -- lots of new circuits to build (including an FM radio) and some interesting new parts. If you have Snap Circuits 300 already and enjoy them, then I recommend this kit.

My daughter loves it! . This is probably my 8 year old daughter's favorite "toy." Her dad is an engineer, and thus knows a lot about electronics. He said he was learning about the same things in his freshman year of college; so I hate to call it just a "toy." She loves to do this, asks everyday. She is learning a lot of the correct "jargon" like parallel vs. series. She is really looking forward to more projects!

Great Way to Teach about Circuitry . This is only one of a number of Snap Kits I have purchased for my sons. Each kit comes with a manual that gives the steps to creating a number of different projects. Both my sons love to play with the Snap Kits, especially the parts that make noise (the alarm, the FM radio, and the recording device). My 10-year old now knows more about electronic circuits, and the associated jargon, than I do! The only real limitation is that a couple of the pieces did not seem to last that long (although this resulted in my kids creating "work-arounds" which was great).

Great stuff! . If you think you want this, or that someone might like it, you're probably right.

It might be a bit overwhelming for a young kid with no guidance but I feel like it's a perfect "learn by doing" training kit for understanding electronic component assembly and design.

If you're not on a tight budget I'd recommend going with the higher numbered kits. You can always upgrade but (at least for me) there's merit to removing friction/barriers to momentum when I'm learning a new subject. OTOH you could always use upgrade purchases as incentives for progress.

The documentation seems excellent. I'm still working through the Student manual. I haven't used the (Windows only) computer interface so I can't comment more on that.

You'll definitely want to buy the AC adapter (not included, there is a space for it in the case). Although in short order you'll probably be able to build your own ;-).

Absolutely awesome . We bought this for my five year old son as his big "finale" Christmas present. He'd been after us for about a year for one of these sets, but given the expense involved at retail locations we had to hold off for and event. A couple of weeks ago we paid a paltry $110 for the above. Perhaps it will come down again later, maybe it was a mistake.

Regardless, this item is indeed worth it at twice the price. The quality of all components is faultless. The case is well worth it, and holds all parts securely. Each bay is even labeled. The books are very well made, printed with bright sharp colors and well written. So far the projects are well paced for my son and I. He can follow the diagrams and put most of them together with only occasional clarification provided by myself.

You will want to do this with your kids. Or, I guess, I think you SHOULD want to do this with your kids. My five year old quickly decided he wanted to design his own circuits. He was able to tell me what he wanted it to do, and we built it together. Though it was his idea to test his own design, he did need my help planning it out and may have caused some damage without it. We're smart folks, but beyond scant high school memories of cursory lessons, I'm mostly ignorant of electronics. My guess is, if you're even considering buying this for your children, you and your kids will have a lot of fun learning with this product.

Utterly satisfied. And again, we would be at twice the price.

Elenco Snap Circuits SC-750R Student Training Program Opinions
Electronics Kit . Awesome kit for kids and teens. My 10 and 12 year old boys spend hours putting together electronic projects and haven't even gotten to the coolest part - hooking the leads to the family computer to use the imbedded Oscilliscope (shows the shape, duration, amplitude of the electricity (harmless battery power only) at various points in the circuits they create. Over 700 projects and easy to understand samples of each with great directions. My boys just call me in to check out their project when finished (I don't even help them usually).

I like the case too - I believe it's worth the extra money to get it - keeps everything organized.

NOT just for older kids!!! . Our Grandson received the Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100 for Christmas when he was 5? and absolutely loved it. He picked up the concept very quickly and had no difficulty creating multiple projects.

He is now 7? and brought it with him on a recent sleepover. He spent hours creating projects, with as much interest and enthusiasm as he had when he first received it nearly 2 years ago.

Rather than buy the UC-60 upgrade and SNAPCASE7 separately, we decided to purchase the SC-750 with the Student Training Program because the SNAPCASE7 is included. He'll have the extra parts from the SC-100 but I'm sure he won't have a problem finding a use for them... LOL We also purchased the SCG-125 Green Edition so he can learn about alternative energy, and the AC Adapter, which is a must have.

This is truly one of the best gifts we could have bought for our Grandson, and now that his 4? year old brother is showing and interest, they will both have an ample supply of parts. Snap Circuits is such a great educational tool, they learn something new every time they use it.

Exactly What I Hoped For . We've only been playing with this for about a week, but my 8 and 11 year olds are having a blast with it. This is a great teaching tool. Just by the way the projects are sequenced they are able to learn a lot about electronics. This product includes the Student Guide and Teachers Guide which we haven't used yet, but it looks fantastic and will ensure that this doesn't end up just being a bag of gadgets. It also has a computer interface (not used yet) but that looks like another great piece to the whole kit. This kit has it all.

Great toy that the kids won't know is educational . I bought this to utilize for home school science and quickly found that my 8 yo son enjoys playing with it so much that he doesn't even notice he is learning. The books that are included are great for explaining electricity and how different circuits work. The projects are quick and easy to understand and create. However, he has the most fun and has gained the most understanding from creating his own circuits. He loves Legos, K'Nex, and other building toys and Snap Circuits adds another level to the building experience.

My 4 yo daughter also enjoys building circuits but needs a bit more guidance in order to make good connections.

I highly recommend that you buy the biggest, baddest set of Snap Circuits that your budget allows.

Education is fun ! .
I bought this for my 8 year old daughter. You will need to supervise atleast to start. After the first few simple circuits, my daughter was already experimenting on her own. There are a number of very similar circuits so you can skip a few without missing much. The sc-750 has many, many experiments so don't worry about running out. The case is very good to organize (but a but pricey) and I am glad I purchased with case.

I like it too !! This will last us for many years.

One very cool gift.. . I wasn't 100% sold on buying this gift for an 8 year old when I first saw it.. In fact it looked way too hard and/or maybe just a little boring..!! It looked like it couldn't be very much fun for an 8 yr. old kid.. But the reviews looked so good that I decided to take a big chance on it..

I bought this for my grandsons 8th B-Day party and it totally surprised me by being the big "hit" gift for him, out of many other very cool gifts he got.. Plus it was the one gift he just had to open up and check out way before any others..

He then took right to it and began building several projects from the first projects book.. In a very short time he was snaping parts together just like he was an old pro with building legos.. The big difference, it really does something when it's all finished.. Once he finished one working project he was then even more pumped to move on to building the next one.. Very cool, indeed..!!

The bottom line is he was having a whole lot of fun with it.. And as a grandparent, I was having much more fun just watching him..

I really don't know about the educational value of it just yet.. It's still way too early to say.. But I do know when something just "clicks" for my grandson.. You can just see it in his eyes.. And this old grandpa does know when he's finally hit a "B-Day gift" homerun in my best ever little buddy's eyes..

PS I've often wondered if all these reviews we're just placed here by the many manufacturers.. But after this last recommended item purchase of mine, I'd more have to say they only seem to be some very "dead on" item reviews..

Huge Potential...BUT . The problem with this toy is this: The educational potential of this set is NEVER realized. The basics of electronics are never covered; electronic components are never explained so my sons could understand in any meaningful way. We purchased this set in hopes of avoiding the criticisms of simpler, more basic sets e.g. no explanation in a step wise, building block manner, using modules and leading to mastery. Even though this student training program is a large set with many books and diagrams, the outcome is still the same. Gizmos and colors are good but dollars spent to learning curve value is poor.
Worse yet, the PC interface did not work. The company was contacted and a new CD requested which the contact person suggested as well thru Amazon. Amazon REFUSED TO SEND a new CD or Product. To Amazon's credit, they refunded the purchase price ONLY. Does this make sense?
The manufacturer should issue a recall. They should have someone with educational skills rewrite the books so the set can be used by young students, parents and teachers.
I am not in the field of electronics; however, my father was an EE who taught his sons all about electricity and electronics.

One of the best gufts for children . this is one of the best gifts I have ever bought for my kids. I highly recommend this. I had the radio unit go bad but other than that all is great and they love it. My boys are 10, 8 and 6 and they learn lts from it!

Great introduction to electronics . This set is excellent. There are a lot of components, a book with a bunch of projects, and an educational book about electronics, all of which are good. My kids are 9 and 12, and both of them like the set, especially the projects that involve sound activated alarms and such. They experiment, and they rig alarms to startle each other, and they gain a little intuition about how electricity works at the same time.

We did have a piece break; one of the snaps came apart on one of the more fun (read "noisy") components, but I contacted the company and they quickly sent replacement at no charge.

I highly recommend it.

Elenco Snap Circuits SC-300 Student Training Program Opinions
Every parent shoud buy this product for your kids that love to build things. Better than Lego! . My 8 years old boy was already modifying by himself an original project right after we finished the 3rd project we assembled together. Or I have a genius at home that I wasn't aware of or this product is really amazing - or both!

Really a "must have". Forget about Lego!

The single "but" is the fact that the battery module doesn't have a replaceable fuse (has none). If, by mistake, the kid short-circuit some circuit, it could just "fry" the toy and make it useless. I wonder why the manufacturer did not add, for example, a small car-type fuse to the battery modules. They are cheap and easy to find.

Your child will not realize this is an educational toy!! . I purchased the Snap Circuit kit for my mechanically inclined 7 year old. There are over 300 variations - my son was immersed in building with this great kit. It has a nice variation of components, stores easily in the included carry case and is made well.

This has been a great item for my son to build and bring along to school on his "share" days.

I have found my son playing with this with friends and his cousins for extended periods of time. My nephew now has one (age 9) and loves it as well.

Highly recommended.

Awesome toys for boys and girls . I purchased this toy for my 8 year old nephew, who's scientifically inclined. This was his favorite toy, and he was building a primitive AM radio within minutes. The big surprise was that 6 year old niece loved it as much and spent more time playing with it than she did with her own toys. The set comes nicely packaged in a black plastic carrying case with slots identifying the proper location for each of the parts. There's also a hefty instruction booklet with easy diagrams of all the projects that the children can copy and build with relative ease. I also purchased the optional adapter to free them up from the batteries, but I don't think it's totally necessary. The only downside to this version is that it comes in the same case as a slightly larger version containing more pieces. Thus, when you purchase this version, there are a few empty slots in the carrying case which my observant nephew instantly spied and asked me why his version was "missing" pieces. I had to explain that those could be purchased separately, which I'm sure didn't thrill him.He said repeatedly that this was his favorite toy.

Love Snap Circuits . My 7 year old loves snap circuits. We started with the 300. Then got the 300-500 upgrade. Now we have this one. He continues to love building circuits. He was excited about the CD that came with it and we got it to work pretty easily, but have done it only that once. He is content to use the manuals and build circuits. We've had a few pieces break on the original sets because it gets used so much. But Elanco will replace the occasional broken piece for free if you call. They have great customer service.

UC80 Upgrade Kit Opinions
Not as described . I ordered this kit to upgrade my son's SC-100 kit based on Amazon's product description. The name of the item per Amazon is the "Elenco Snap Circuits SC-100 Upgrade Kit". Amazon's product features state: "UC-30 Converts your Snap Circuits SC-100 to the Snap Circuits SC-300". Sounds like what we need at that point. But it's not...

This kit is actually the UC-80 upgrade kit. Amazon's description is incorrect. See below. The Manufacturer Product Description is also misleading. It says it converts the SC-750 to the SC-750 to create 450 new projects. Confused yet? Just wait. The product description below that says it converts the SC-500 to the SC-750 with 250 new experiments. This second description is correct for the UC-80 (the kit that has the computer interface and solar panel) per the Elenco website.

It seems Amazon has mislabeled and incorrectly described this item. The outcome is that this kit does not allow you to do 250 or 450 more experiments if you are starting with the SC-100 kit. You first need to upgrade to the SC-500. The UC-30, UC-40, and UC-60 are the kits to use to upgrade the SC-100 per Elenco.
