Excellent Toy!! It's a winner! . My son is two and half and absolutely adores Blues Clues. Imagine his delight when we gave him "the notebook". I think he thinks we skidooed into the land of Blue to get it. It does wipe off very easy to use the pages again and again. The paw print stickers are a one shot deal but he doesn't need them in order to enjoy this toy. If your kid loves the show, I say it's a hit!

The Best Notebook Option Out There . I own this notebook, as well as Steve's Notebook and the Golden Notebook. While all three look good, I would only recommend Joe's and Steve's, with a couple of qualifications.
First, I would not recommend that Golden Notebook primarily because the front and back are made of cardboard instead of plastic, as the other two are.
Regarding Joe's Notebook and Steve's Notebook, here are the qualifications:
1) The pages can soak up water when you clean them. That said, I have never put that much water on them. Usually a little dab on a paper towel will do the trick.
2) While a little dab of water can do the trick, it is not an easy chore and not something all little kids will be able to do. Depending on how hard your child writes, this could be more or less of a problem.
3) This is probably the worst issue for me. The crayon simply does not draw very well on the pages. You generally have to press down pretty hard, and this is not always easy for little ones. My little girl often shows me her drawing and tells me what it is, which is good seeing as how I can barely see a faded dark line here and there. It is nothing like simply drawing with a crayon or marker on paper. Of course, this is to be expected I suppose, considering the washable nature of the product, but still.
4) You will likely need to get creative and find a way to attach the crayon to the notebook otherwise it may get lost on day one. Some string and a rubberband will do the trick. I am sure you can come up with something.
Now, even with all those concerns, I still say this is the best notebook out there and here's why. This one and Steve's are the only ones I know of that have plastic fronts and backs. Anyone who is looking for Blue's Clues stuff knows how hard it is to come by and how expensive it can be. These are notebooks that will last a good long time. Not only that, I have found that it is very easy to get some colored construction paper, a hole punch and a better pen on a leash and "reload" these notebooks til your kids are out of college. That right there is the true value of these particular notebooks and the reason that, despite all my problems with them, they still get 5 stars.
So, out of the box, they're not bad and worth the retail price, but what makes these things really shine and makes them worth the "collectible" price is the fact that they will last you a good long time and can be modified and "reloaded" time and time again with a little work. The Golden Notebook, on the other hand, while a good think cardboard and perhaps worth the retail price, still wears down quickly, as one would expect even think cardboard to do.
Other notebooks I have seen have been much, much worse. Be careful what you get.

Joe's notebook . My 3 year old was desperate for a 'handy dandy notebook', and nothing from a stationery store would do: it HAD to look like the thinking chair. Now, with each Blue's Clues episode, he can draw the clues along with Joe (or Steve), and he's delighted! However, for all the joy that it brings, I am conscious that the laminated pages absorb water and warp VERY quickly, and that it would just take one, unnoticed spill to ruin what has turned out to be a very expensive toy: with almost [$...] to ship to NZ, the total cost of this toy doubled to [$...] - way more than I think necessary!!

Joe's Handy Dandy Notebook . This notebook was purchased as a birthday gift to replace a Blue's Clues notebook lost by our 2-year old grandson. He had resorted to grabbing everyone's spiral notebook and available pen or pencil he could lay his hands on. This caused considerable friction with parents and older siblings. Upon seeing the newly purchased Joe's Handy Dandy Notebook, all interest in the other toys immediately ceased and this notebook became the only toy played with, for several weeks. The notebook itself is durable enough, but keeping track of the wax writing instrument is a major problem. While the notebook is a bit pricey, the utility-cost value is thought to be worth it. There is only one issue with this item, and that is the writing instrument. 1. Only one comes with the notebook. and 2. One cannot buy only the writing instrument, without buying another notebook. Twenty five dollars+ is a bit much when an easily lost component is the only thing needing replacement. The ability to separately purchase a replacement writing tool - at a reasonable price - or supplying an additional tool, would be beneficial from the purchaser's perspective. While understanding this is a for-profit venture, a reasonable profit can still be maintained by making additional writing tools available. And yes, it is understood that buying another entire notebook-writing tool combination increases the profit, it may also deter repeat sales, such as the one I made. Although I'm well satisfied with the purchase and results, it is unlikely there would be a repeat purchase from me. This single issue prevented the notebook from getting a 5-star rating from me.
A real dandy . I purchased this notebook for my 6 yr old grandson Eli for Christmas. He has carried it around nonstop ever since. The toy is well made and he has drawn on it and cleaned it countless times with little sign of wear. Not only was this toy his absolute favorite gift this year but we are already planning to purchase another one for his little girlfriend for Valentines day. We are both very pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to any Blue's Clues fan.
hefty pricetag for a notebook . When my first child was into Blues Clues I was able to buy this off the rack - 9 years ago. Now my third daughter discovered some old DVD's and just has to have a notebook but I remember that it wasn't that durable and almost choked when I saw that it was going for $15 or more. Are they collector's items? Like others I remember that the crayon doesn't work really well on the laminated pages and that they do easily damage from water and tear from the binder. It would be worth the price if it was refillable paper
Put a huge smile on my child's face . My 5 year old loves Blues Clues and this was about the best present he ever received if you saw his face. Kept him busy for hours.
Handy Dandy for Your little Clue Finder . This is absolutely adorable. I just found this. My son is 5 but absolutely loves this. He could sing all the songs to the show and loves his new notebook. Just wipe clean with dry cloth and find more clues.
A Winner! . My 2 year old absolutely lit up when he saw this. I was lucky and didn't pay nearly the "collectible" price. He's gone through so many writing pads I can't even count. The plastic front a back cover make a nice sturdy notebook for the punishment a 2 year old can dish out. How ever long it lasts, it was worth the look on his face when I gave to him!
Cons Review
Handy Dandy indeed! . Our son is obsessed with Blue's Clues and has been pretending to have a "notebook" for a while. He was ecstatic about receiving this from Santa this year. He uses it all the time and the pages are easy to keep clean. I may need to fasten the crayon to the notebook somehow because I'm sure there will be tears if the crayon gets lost! Great product...just wish it wasn't so expensive!
