Great Educational Toy . These cards are great for pre-schoolers, featuring a number of different activities involving numbers:
1.Find the matching number
2.Which [numbers] are the same [numbers appear in shapes]
3.Match the number and number word
4.How many? [counting objects of fingers on the card]
5.Find the matching number set [two objects need to be matched with two dots on the bottom]
6.How many [objects] are circled?
7.Which number comes before/after?

My son is 3 years old and most of the questions age-appropriate for him, and I can see the educational value of these cards lasting for a couple of years. The cards can be used with or without the dog-pen, and although the pen makes it more fun, sometimes my son chooses the wrong answers on purpose (or presses answers randomly), because it's fun for him when the dog makes a sad sound. That being said, the price of the set is high enough to include the price of the pen, in my opinion, which is why I give the product 4 stars.

Great Mid-level intro to numbers and counting . The Hot Dots numbers & counting are a great mid-level intro to numbers and counting. This set is great for children who have a basic grasp of counting and can identify at least a few numbers visually. My son began using this set when he could visually identify numbers 1-5 and verbally count up to 15. I think that, unless you are an extremely patient parent, if you tried to introduce these cards to a child with no number knowledge you'd just get a very frustrated child.
Ace, the Talking, Teaching Dog Pen doesn't come with the set, but can be purchased separately, and is very fun for the kids...sometimes too fun. Occasionally, when my son doesn't feel like doing anything he'll just press all the wrong answers because he thinks the incorrect sounds are funny.

A lot of fun and educational too. . I'm a science buff and want my grandchildren to be at least interested in science if not more deeply involved. So whenever I see a toy that might help ignite or sustain this interest, I'm curious and sometimes yield to the impulse to buy.

EarthBall is a wonderful toy for kids and educational too. Orbis has done a marvelous job of converting a photomosaic of the planet to printed vinyl. The alignment between the printed sections.

The photo detail is surprisngly good. It's far from what you would expect in the pages of National Geographic, but major terrestrial features like deserts, mountains and cultivated areas are visible. You can pick out the Hawaian Islands. Both polar regions are shown. Cleverly they've used luminous ink to print the locations of densely populated areas. It's not super-bright, but it is visible and adds a little something for young minds to absorb.

The EarthBall is durable. My young grandson immediately decided to turn it into an impromptu chair and much to my surprised, it survived.

Overall, it's a fun, worthwhile toy with high play and educational value.

Look at the world differently . As a ball to bounce and play with it is sturdy and durable. As an educational experience, at first I was disappointed that it did not have any countries on it and the separate continents were barely seen. But I soon saw that as an advantage for my grandkids because it is a beautiful rendering of earth as seen from space (the blue is gorgeous) and teaches a different lesson: this is just one little planet, and from a distant perspective, national boundaries are artificial and irrelevant. Something very peaceful about that.

A earth shattering hit with out 2+ year old! . Between you and me, I bought this ball because (1) it's a good (big) size for a toddler and (2) it's more fun than a mounted globe. I am really hoping to get some educational value from it, since my son is showing some interest in maps. In fact, as my wife was inflating it, our son excitedly arrived at her feet and began yelling "Earth! Earth!" That was great.

But immediately, the horseplay ensued. I hope this ball is up to the abuse, because it's not what I intended. But... oh well. After a session of kicking, rolling, throwing and carrying "Earth!" around the house, the ball seemed no worse for wear, so we sat down for a few minutes of education.

The valve stem is at the North Pole, which our boy hasn't quite figured out how to open. Yet. Despite the cloud coverage, the continents are fairly easily discernible. He wanted to know about San Francisco Bay, which is home to us, but it's not really visible on this scale, PLUS is covered in green glow-in-the-dark splotches (the splotches don't really stick out unless I know what *should* be there). Nevertheless, we're on track to learning the continents and the oceans. If he can peg the bay area or even California at some point, that would just be bonus.

Meanwhile, I think this ball is going to get a lot more kicking than studying. Its construction isn't heavy duty, but also isn't overly thin like other beach balls I've encountered. And the seams seem sturdy enough to endure indoor play, as long as it isn't being used as an airbag or bouncy horse.

Perhaps my one disappointment is the valve isn't the "self sealing" type found on some inflatables -- the kind that won't let air escape and require a pinch to deflate.

In a nutshell, here's a dual-purpose toy I'm pretty happy with, and something I'll buy again when this one succumbs to toddler mayhem.

(Update 8/25/11) -- Call me impressed. Despite the cloud coverage and lack of any borders or labels, our 2 year old has no problem identifying San Francisco, Hawaii, Kenya of all places (a neighbor was traveling there), Australia, Antarctica, and naturally, the north pole. We've even talked extensively about earth rotating and sunsets / sunrises, easy to replicate in a dark room with a flashlight. This globe has transitioned from a play thing to a real educational experience!)

Very cool . My kids both love this global/ball. It is really cool and fun to play with. it is a bit large for my 3 year old, but he still manages to carry it around. They like the glow in the dark features, but it isn't as "bright" as I would have liked.

Cities Do NOT Glow In Dark . "Cities glow in the dark!" was one of the main reasons I was interested in this item. There is *zero* glow. I promise. This was disappointing. But other than that it is a fine toy. If large cities actually glowed, it would have justified a 5-star "educational value" rating.

Decoration . I bought this to hang from a ceiling to decorate a classroom themed "Games around the World." It worked out great. And my kids always enjoy playing with another ball. So after I used it to decorate we could get additional use out of it!

Great for kids . Delivered on time! just 2 days after purchase! This earthball was a gift for my son on his 6th birthday, he just loved it, because he wanted to have the planet earth as is, the real thing and he was pleased.

Must see if you love science . This globe is very easy to blow up with your lips only, simple and shows nice detail, comes with many facts about space and is fun to use. It seems durable, no problems so far and makes a great toy/beach ball. I would highly recommmend this as a teacher present or for teacher classrooms or homeschool. A plus is the larger size, bigger than most beach balls.

Great toy!!! . I actually purchased this earth ball to be used like a disco ball in a school musical. We had it lowered from the ceiling, right behind the curtain valance and had it hooked to a disco ball motor. It worked GREAT! It was the perfect size for this (any smaller would have been dinky), and I also recommended this item to our elementary teachers to use in their classrooms. It would look great hanging from a classroom ceiling. It was a fantastic price, and the shipping was only $1.00! I highly recommend this product!

Not very tough . This is a spiffy-looking globe, but it's not very tough at all. My first one lasted two months before my son dropped it. The arm snapped in two and couldn't be glued. So I ordered a second one. That one arrived with a broken arm. I sent it back and gave up. The plastic arm that holds this globe is just too fragile.

Poor Quality . First off, I knew the globe was small, but it was still smaller than I expected. Globe itself is fine. Stand is flimsy. . The globe itself is fine. The stand is so flimsy it arrived already broken. (I didn't damage it while removing it form the box; before I opened the box, I could see the globe lying at the bottom with the stand broken off through the side of the box.) I also wish it showed a physical scale rather than just noting that the scale is 1:32,000,000.

It's Okay . There could have been more experiments. I also think that everything you need for the experiments, should have come with the test tubes. Unfortunately, only about half of the needed ingredients were provided. I don't think this is the best science kit there is, but I'm not entirely upset. This sucks! . I'm not one to write reviews, but I was so upset by the quality of this product that I just had to write. First of all, two of the key items that are required to perform these experiments, both of which are supposed to be included, were not included in my set. I received a new, sealed set, so I'm not sure why this happened. In addition, two of the experiments we completed did not work. The only thing we have yet to try are the non-popping bubbles (which I bought separately a month ago for $1.99 in the toy store). I literally took the entire kit and threw it in the garbage. And I have two very unhappy kids on my hands. Do not buy this product under any circumstances!Lab in a Bag Glow Chemistry

It's Okay . As far as "chemistry sets" go, this one is halfway decent. Some of the experiments could be improved. The polymer snake in particular forms polymer drops instead of a long snake. As with many toys, the instructions that are often written by people without English as a native language lack effective detail. Maybe if one would use the pipet to add the magic solution and introduced it quickly and below the surface an actual "snake would form. Let's be honest, after the initial wow! cool! upon opening the gift, a fair amount of the glimmer is gone.

Mom of 5 yr old boy . I have a five year old boy and he has greatly enjoyed this kit. Of course everything isn't as amazing or wonderful as an adult might think they should be but he wan't dissapointed with any of them.

Test tube adventures /lab in a bag . Great toy! My six-year-old son loves it! And the tubes the creations come in are lots of fun for him to create his own "experiments" with soap and other liquids around the house once the lab kit experiments are used.

The experiments don't take long so they're great for impatient kids (and adults) who want to see results fast.

They're easy enough to follow that set up is quick and easy. But they definitely need adult supervision/help with instructions.

The kit I picked came with Touchable Bubbles, Disappearing Ink, Miles of Worms (made of polymer) and Bouncy Ball. We especially loved the ball and the worms. Can't wait to try another kit.

Test tube adventures . Cute toy, I was mislead, believing I was purchasing an 8 pack of touchable bubbles, the additional projects were cute, but I really wanted the bubbles.

7 yr old loved it. . My seven year old nephew Loved it and used it immediately during Christmas break. They can use invisible paint and make a small bounce ball (like the ones you get from the 25cent machine).
I think he really liked getting hands on with his parents to make something cool.
Apparently this is a series, so I am going to get him another one soon.

Four and a half stars~ nice quiet light. . This light was a small size and put on a nice show. It was very quiet and cool to the touch and the concept was very good. Changing the effects was super easy and everything stored on it so no worry of losing parts in the dark. It didn't matter that it wasn't set to react to the music it just sort of worked with any beat by the way it moves. It is not as intense as it appears in the pictures they are showing (reason I took off from five stars). I know it is hard to capture, but if you really look at the picture with the speakers it shows the most intense lighting effect is when it is very dark and up close. It does however make a very nice display of light in a large room I just wouldn't use it by itself. It makes a nice addition with another light. All in all, I would recommend this light as part of a light show, but not as the only light. I'm glad I bought it. I loved the "vertigo" LED light with it, that I also bought from Amazon.

Oh what fun! . A room full of reasonably intellegent adults spent several hours just admiring the lights. Can't say much more than that. Well, perhaps ..."Ho! Ho! Ho!"

runs off 6V DC . I wired this to four D-cells and brought it on a camping trip (its power adapter outputs 6 volts DC). The effect you get by projecting this against a wall of trees in the dark night is AMAZING! This thing turned a little family-night-out into a G-rated rave. This thing is waaaay more fun than it deserves to be!

But let's be real: It isn't super durable, and I'm concerned about the green laser's class level (although that's probably mitigated somewhat by its diffusion into thousands/millions of lesser beams, right?). Its speed controls are not smooth, and it seems kind of expensive for what is basically two cheap lasers and two variable-speed motors. The red patterns are so overshadowed by the green, they might as well be nonexistent: thankfully you can just turn red off and conserve the energy, since the lasers are switched independently.

Still -- really fun! Everyone should have one. Next trip out, I'm going to try projecting it on a waterfall or something.

I gave it four stars for "educational value." The item itself has none of course, but it does create a nice opportunity to discuss laser safety with your kids.

Awesome for kids and adults . We bought this for our six year old to help him fall asleep at night. We have had a blast changing the patterns and both he and his little brother (2 yo) are amazed. It is very easy to use and the lights are all stored in the unit, VERY nice for a kids room where stuff gets lost. Not hot to the touch even after a few hours. I spent a little more than the Amazon price so I could have it that day but for the price listed here, this light show is a no brainer. A great item!

A nice addition to our collection of lasers. Good variety of lenses. . We have three lasers now. One is very simple, red & green moving in a simple pattern. We've enjoyed that one a great deal and it was cheap enough that we don't mind taking hold of it and swinging it around to make nice patterns. We recently added two new lasers, a fancier more expensive American DJ Galaxian Royale, and this one, the Laser Theater. The Laser theater comes with 4 different lenses, each of which can do three different patterns. I was disappointed to discover that ONLY the green laser enables you to choose from the three patterns. For the red laser, you just get whatever the default pattern is for that lens. two of the lenses are the same, enabling you to have the same thing going at the same time for both red & green, or so the instructions claim! I think that's a bit lame, especially since the red is restricted to only one style. What a waste! And yet, I'm still giving this 4 stars, because even with its limitations, it's got some nice patterns and it does stuff our other lasers do not do, so it's very nice to find a pattern we like and let it do its thing.

Weak!! . For this price you should get one of the more professional lasers. This one isn't very powerful at all. The lasers are like two tiny pen lasers. The price is actually outrageous.

red laser not that great . The description stating both green and red laser, but, if you look at their sample photo, you only notice it only all green laser, not red. I test it out, and the red is horrible. it is not bright and not enough red dots to show out more like green laser. Very noticeable red laser when you turn both green and red on. For the price, I don't recommend it.

Good effects. . Good effects. Could be brighter, but at this price point it works. Friends have asking about it after the party.

awesome . Effects are very nice, easy to use and nice quality with a reasonable price. It is relaxing and our cats love it.

love these lowercase letters! . These lowercase magnet letters were exactly what we were looking for. My daughter is very interested in learning letter sounds, and spends a lot of time talking about and sounding out magnetic letters on our fridge. However, most sets of magnetic letters are all uppercase, which isn't ideal for learning to read since in books, most letters are lowercase.

We also have a set of Melissa & Doug wooden magnetic letters (both uppercase and lowercase). However, we'd lost some (leaving us with no lowercase of some letters). Also, some of the Melissa and Doug letters are a little hard for kids to understand. For instance, the two parts of the lowercase "i" are connected together in a confusing way.

These new letters are great. The letters are much more clearly shaped, rather than "bubbly" like the Melissa & Doug ones. The magnets stick fine, all except the letter o's, which slide a bit for some reason. They're not strong enough to hold up papers, but plenty strong enough for play. They're a little smaller than the Melissa & Doug letters and the "standard," common uppercase set we got at a yard sale, but the size difference is minor enough that they can still be mixed and matched to spell words. This is exactly what I was looking for.

Good puzzle with a few drawbacks . This is our first GeoPuzzle. I read the reviews and knew that the pieces, because they are meant to have the shape of the country, would not be interlocking. No problem. What I was surprised by was the fact that the ocean pieces, which are interlocking, are cut such that you can put a piece in the wrong place and have it look like it fits; the holes and knobs seem to be all very similar in size and placement. Additionally, some of the inside pieces have a straight edge that makes them look like they should be an edge piece. Not a big deal if you are using the picture to put the puzzle together (the ocean pieces helpfully have random boats on them so you can tell what goes where by using the picture), but if you are trying to put it together by trial and error (as we were the first time we did it) and using standard puzzle logic that straight pieces are edge pieces, you get messed up pretty quickly. So if your child will likely not use the picture, an adult should be right at hand to correct misplaced pieces until the child gets the hang of where the ocean pieces go. And as other reviewers have noted, some of the pieces are small (1 in by 1/2 in); they do lump 2 or 3 countries together into one piece in a couple of cases, and the islands are all just varying sizes of specks on the ocean pieces. Overall a good puzzle if you want a puzzle that has pieces that correspond to the shape of the country.

Excellent . I work with severely handicapped/emotionally disturbed students; many of whom have great difficulty processing lots of information on a page etc. These puzzles are excellent as they are the shape of the country with only the name and capitol imprinted on them. The pieces are sturdy and colorful. I'm delighted with my purchase and the service I received.

amazing learning toy . Can I give this more than five stars? I bought all of the GeoPuzzles and cherish them. They are a great family activity. My kids have learned so much world geography from these.

GeoPuzzle . My granddaughter has the Africa puzzle and loved it so I added this for her 5th birthday. I think that these puzzles are great for all ages. They also use the USA puzzle in her school. A good buy.

Geopuzzle . This is a great puzzle for child or adult who wants to learn the locations of countries. Educational, fun, attractive, and sturdy enough. I have several Geopuzzles and am pleased with all of them.

Latin American Puzzle . The puzzle is not made to have a normal shape once put together but nonetheless I believe it will be effective in assisting my students to learn the names of Spanish-speaking countries and their capitals

Great puzzle . We purchased several of these puzzles for our 3 year old son. He loves them. The pieces are large and sturdy. We like that each country is its own piece. It's a great way for kids to learn geography and develop spatial coordination. We have all of the continents that are available. We highly recommend.

My son LOVES these puzzles! . My five year old, map-obsessed son loves these puzzles. He now knows world geography far better than most adults. He and his older brother now take turns pulling a country piece out of the map and seeing if the other can tell which one is missing.

highly recommended with adult supervision . We actually are going to give this to my 3 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas. She has the North American one and it's been a WONDERFUL educational tool. Each state (except a few of the small New England area states) are a separate piece. It has really helped her to learn the location and name of every state, the corresponding capital and even the provinces in Canada. She is learning the bodies of water now. The pieces are only as durable as a regular jigsaw puzzle though. So, you have to watch if they stick them in their mouths or spill milk on them. We have a few "frayed" pieces.

pieces do not stay together . Like the other Geopuzzles, the pieces come apart if you touch them or accidentally move or slide the puzzle while you are putting it together. These puzzles are frustrating for adults, much less 4+ age children.

Also, the pieces are flimsy, particularly for the price.

A very good idea that has been poorly executed.

Cons Review

Dont buy It's not even fun forget educational . The battery conductor is flimsy and never conducts. So you try to lift and that's when it breaks rendering it completely useless. It's a total plastic junk. Not to disappoint my kids, I somehow managed to get it work but they lost interest immediately.

Great big disappointment . I ordered three of these for my grandsons. I purchased new batteries
and they were so excited to try them out. We could not get them to work at all! I would have sent them back, but the packaging had been thrown away and I figured I wouldn't have a chance. Now they are just sitting there waiting for me to throw them out. Never again.

Fun for a while . This is a good toy, but only for a while, then the kid gets bored

Very cool big ear for Bugs & Bats & More . This little device opens a whole new world up in sound. Very cool... It can even hear motor noises that you can not hear are there with out it.

Waste of money . I bought this as a present for my very scientific and inquisitive son. It is garbage and doesn't work. It's a wonderful idea but a really cheap product. Don't waste your money!

Cons Review

Not Night Vision . "Night vision" means a red light in the middle of the glasses. The red light creates a glow, and you can only see whatever the red light is directly pointed at. These are definitely NOT night vision goggles. These are sunglasses with a red light in the middle. That's it. And since I have twins, I got suckered twice. Spend the money for a true pair of night vision goggles, even if the kid is little.

Alright . This was an Xmas gift or our son. He loved it!! But has a hard time with the earpiece. It won't stay in his ear and doesn't work well. Other than that he likes it. There okay night vision, there's much better ones out there. Like the spy brand ones we got for our older son those work great. These were for our youngest who's ruff in his toys so they worked out. Not the best goggles- night vision is a little tiny light.

Great Toy! . My 9yr old nephew loves the science projects and spy items! So fun to shop for! Great product, he was thrilled!!!!

Kids love it !! . My kids love it !!! The only bad thing about it is I have to take it away from them at night or they would not get any sleep !!!
